    One thing that I notice on almost all cnc inlay work is the crazy amount of wasted wood. There has to be a better way than turning up to a 1/2" of useable wood into dust. The piece turned out great though.

    • @ARBWoodwork
      @ARBWoodwork  Год назад +1

      It is maybe 1/4 inch of the plug that is removed. I wish I could have less but the blank started to bow and twist if there is less structure to support. I cut the strips at 1/2 inch to make the blanks. There is waste, but I don’t know if there is any woodworking that doesn’t have waste.
      Thanks for watching!

      This is why a lot of woodworkers have wood burning stoves. Also, depending on the species, you could also use the scrap to smoke meats (assuming there's no glue involved ofc lol)

    I just notice when you remove the positive portion after the glue you go to full depth and just use a small step over. Have you found this to be better than having a large step over but with smaller, incremental pass depth? Just getting my feet wet in end grain inlay and the first one I did was great but I did notice a couple of small parts where the wood lifted a bit and left a void. Small enough that it's hard to tell unless you really looked close but they were still there

    It appears to me that end-grain (male part, especially) is easier to machine when it's end-grain. These sharp and thin cliffs do not break off, and cut cleaner. Is that correct?

    • @ARBWoodwork
      @ARBWoodwork  3 месяца назад

      Yes, there is less chance of tear out with end grain.

    Curious where the 2D art came from. Did you hire someone, downloaded it from somewhere, or did you make it yourself?

    Wow that inlay inside an inlay is amazing great work! Does the tapered ball nose give you problems in the sharp corners at all? It looks phenomenal so I guess not? Haha

    • @ARBWoodwork
