Despite the impending U-S attack on Iraq, life at the U-S Army's base in Kuwait - only about 35 miles from the Iraqi border seems surprisingly quiet.
No alert state has been declared in Camp Doha yet, and nothing seems to have changed the routine operations of the base.
Camp Doha, just outside Kuwait City, is now temporary home to more than 1,500 soldiers, most of whom have been flown to Kuwait on a deployment code-named Intrinsic Action.
While the chances of a diplomatic solution to the Iraq crisis seem to be fading - and preparations for a military strike continue, soldiers Camp Doha just went about their business as usual.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"We can't predict the future, as I said we're not under any particular threat that makes us do anything other than routine right now, so I think it's confidence in their jobs, knowing what they do and confidence in the American Leadership."
SUPER CAPTION: Colonel Berrett King - PA Officer Camp Doha
The spokesman for the U-S forces in Kuwait was standing among rows of howitzer guns, Abrams M1-A1 tanks, and trucks.
In a policy call 'pre-positioning' - the U-S has stockpiled enough weapons and equipment in Kuwait to equip a whole battalion.
Troops periodically take the equipment out into the desert for war games.
The material will be ready - if needed - to project American military muscle into the northern Gulf region.
The social centre of the camp is its postal exchange, or P-X as the troops say.
On Thursday it seemed like a small town shopping mall.
The central food court was ringed by video game machines, Baskin-Robbins ice cream supplies, a photo shop and a jewellery store.
The morale of the American troops training in Camp Doha seems to be high.
That is helped by the troops' confidence in their training - as well as the high technical quality of the equipment.
    SOUNDBITE: (English)
"We've heard about the different attacks, but again some of those things are only rumour and we don't play on rumour. One thing we do is follow the instructions of our bosses who tell us exactly what we are going to do. We're not worried because we're trained we know we have the best equipment, the best people and when you're the best do you worry? It's like being on a football team. When you are number one, you're number one, and we are number one.
SUPER CAPTION: Anthony Hardin, U-S Army Sergeant
The exercise has acquired greater significance in view of the United States and Britain's threats to attack Iraq if it does not grant U-N. inspectors unfettered access to suspected weapons sites.
The Security Council has charged the inspectors with verifying the elimination of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction, a process Baghdad must complete before the council will lift the sweeping sanctions imposed after the Kuwait invasion.
