A lot of people think that colour has to be paired with black and most of the time thats not true and that's why colour isn't working for them try pairing a coloured jumper with camel trousers or white or cream or another colour this usually works best with one colour items not patterns but try not pairing with black it sap's the life out of that beautiful colour where as white reflects the colour camel makes the colour look more expensive or rich looking and colour blocking looks stunning and fun ❤

Black is a bright, cool, and advancing color. On anyone who doesn’t have those color characteristics, black is not a flattering color, especially close to the face.
Oh, the sea of black in public is so depressing.

Tailored trousers can easily be translated into more casual outfits and be quite chic! A great alternative to jeans for variety.

First I must tell you I love your top, so pretty! To dump the frump I asked my 25 and 30 year old nieces to critique my style. They were honest and they were eager to help me update some of my favorite things. A few musts : tuck in tops and no capris out in public!

I really appreciate that you did not specify what "frumpy" looks like, but instead explained this in a practical, individuality-promoting, non-critical way. Uplifting, not catagorizing. This is truly helpful for women of all shapes, sizes, and lifestyles. I'm sending a big "THANK YOU!" for your presentation!

Thanks for introducing me to the brand "Karen Walker". I loved your orange bag and when I went to the website, it was sold out, but I got the fun wooly orange bum bag to keep things together on casual outings and got compliments immediately! One tip: I have a pair of expensive, perfect-fitting pants that got water damage on fabric that won't come out, even with drycleaning. I don't have the kind of money sitting around to repurchase, so I carefully took the damaged pants apart and will use the pieces as a pattern to make 2 more pants! Even if you don't sew, you can get a seamstress to do this for you and make you more pairs. Someone who knows how doesn't even need to take the pants apart to make a pattern from it.

I love the idea of giving yourself a permission to be an upgraded style personality. This is what I think I have to do. I limited myself to thinking at my age, with my figure, who cares if I don't dress my best. I feel I really need to consider a change. Thank you.

Great tips. I keep trying to see the 'cropped' pants as cropped and NOT as highwater. LOL. As a heavier woman, I found many pants seemed to turn highwater, ugh. After years of dealing with this, my mindset goes right there when seeing cropped.
I am not tall, so it seems pants are way too long or 'cropped'. Since I prefer skirts and dresses, I am learning to let go of the pants and just embrace the skits and dresses.
Now if only I could stop vacillating between classic, romantic/feminine and cottagecore.
Yes, I'm', the lady at Costco in a dress/skirt with a handbag and possibly a fun hat.--Full makeup and hair done.

I use the runway shows much the same way. I am a minimalist at heart, I prefer to keep the extras simple and strategic. Always enjoy your content ❤

I like that you put frumpy as almost a state of mind because it is with me, it more toward of being depressed and not caring how I look running out the door. I am going to have heck of fun doing corsages and broaches because it will help uplift a look but also cover some areas of damage (those darn moths). I am going for colorful in my Fall/winter for dopamine dressing. I got to figure this Pinterest out and setting up a weekly rack so looks are already pulled together. Thanks for sharing and ta ta for now.

There is amazing fashion designer from Tibi. She said something really interesting about getting dress which really changed my life. I don’t know if it’s helpful for the people. She said you should think about how do you want to feel and dress accordingly and that you should have pieces that are chill, that are modern and that also classic She has a three word adjective rule. I thought that was really cool because it really help me sort of go from frumpy to myself. She also advocates for buying pieces that are beautiful workhorses. I clothing that could be worn for work, play and dinner. Also, depending on how you dress it up so you’re not trying to go buy some thing for the a singular event but you have everything in your closet to create for whatever event while you feel like yourself. I think that’s when women over 50 get into frumpy territory when we start to try to follow trends as opposed to keeping the classic but modern wardrobe that allows us to be ourselves where we can add on elements of accessories to either be trendy, or to be creative or whatever.

I always shower, shampoo, do my hair and put some light makeup on before shopping, I like to look and feel my best. I take an unloved, dark silk scarf to cover my makeup when trying clothes on. When trying on at home, I do it after my shower, but don’t wear makeup or skin care products. I also wash my hands first, I don’t want to get any marks on anything, or transfer odors. If an item has to be returned, but isn’t saleable, it costs us all extra, if the retailer will even accept it. I have to return “new” clothes a lot because of makeup, coffee or food stains, how inconsiderate these people are. They wear them for photos, I suppose, then trash them and send them back!

Speaking of skinny jeans, I’d like to know if there’s anyone who can remove these jeans without having a panic attack. The last time I wore skinny jeans I thought I was going to have to call the fire department to get me out of these jeans. I’m a small petite person and wear a size zero, so I wasn’t poured into them. I started pulling them from the bottom but they didn’t budge. And for heavens sake don’t sweat in them or you’ll never get them off. Do you know what I ended up doing? I cut them off. I kid you not, I started at the band and slid the scissor right down the side. I cried when they finally fell to the floor. I wasn’t ever going to wear them again so I didn’t care if they were in 2 pieces. This is my story about skinny jeans.

A very minor thing. Some of us don't wear makeup and feel better than ever not wearing it. I stopped wearing makeup 2yrs age when I turned 60, deciding that was the next step in preserving the health of my skin. I was nervous at first but would not go back to makeup for anything - not even when I started my youtube channel. Maybe next time say "if you feel more confident in makeup, wear it while trying clothes". I am proud of how I look makeup and hair dye free and never felt more confident. I am so happy makeup is a thing of my past.
