A Mustang Owner I had a 2006 sti with bolt on’s and a good tune (21 psi)years back. The things I did with that car I am so lucky to be alive . It never let me down .

One time in Vermont I had a friend in my car we were running from a school security guy , and we ended up on a dirt road slightly down hill that lead to farms . We were going 110 mph !!!! I slowed down to about 75 mph but most of the road was straight so I just kept going faster . I’m an evo guy at heart 100%. But I don’t believe there’s a better car on dirt than a wrx(sti)

The STI final edition is only for the UK market, the STI isn't dead or gone, the UK simply ended their production run for the STI due to lack of sales, you can read the article about it online just look it up. The US market, Canada, South America, South African, Australian and Japanese markets still get the STI and will continue to get the STi into 2020 and beyond.

Saying the engine under the bonnet of the STi you can buy now is basically the same as the one under the bonnet of the P1 couldnt be further from the truth. The EJ207 under the bonnet of the P1 is a totally different beast compared to the weaker EJ257 fitted to the STi around the world. There's a reason the high end Spec limited editions released in Japan still use the EJ207.
2006 Subaru Wrx Sti owner here, my daily driver, bought from new, now has as of today 141k miles on the original factory OEM EJ257 block and stock internals, not bad for a weaker block ;-). it's reliable motor if you service it properly, treat it right and don't flog it to death outside of what the components can handle, and yes I do drive properly, anything will break if you flog it to death eventually. The OEM Stock cast pistons are a well know limit of the EJ257 block, so if you are looking for more power going to flog it to death off redline or stick a bigger turbo, or whatever with out the correct components and supporting mods then yes it will break, that is true of any motor, even forged blocks break. just my two cents worth :)

Johnathan Byard according to google the wr1 put out 316 bhp as standard, the standard Sti with the ppp kit put out 305 bhp. We are both wrong. But it’s still the best Subaru.
In my opinion these cars lost there identity in 07. Instead of sticking to there roots they tried to make a road car but everything is just mediocre, nothing exciting about the engine, suspension, drivetrain or interior. I will never understand why they didn't put the closed deck engine in and bump the horsepower 400+ with the new gen.

Based on the way Subaru does their chassis codes I'm pretty sure that's just be a normal 4 door first gen Impreza with a 2.5 liter the number at the end just means the size of the engine basically

Effectively, the car's importer (a 3rd party that is not Subaru), decided to stop importing them. Presumably, it was not a highly profitable undertaking, and possible concerns over the engine's compliance with future emissions regulations fueled the decision.
