Ben Ten Dumbest fucking move man. You’d think me being in tears the entire time driving to sell my ‘15 STI would’ve been enough of a sign not to let her go! Dumbass me ignored those emotions.
For as much shit I used to talk about the STI, after i had traded my STI in for a F80 M3, I still find myself tempted to go back to the STI. Power aside, the refined EJ motor, 6 speed, true AWD, it's simplicity, raw driving experience, driver focused feeling and it's hydraulic steering really brings back my joy and experience with the early 2000s late 90s JDM cars/ driving style; which is nearly impossible to find now in modern cars today, except with the STI. This cars simplicity and raw driving experience are going to be missed now that everything is electronic, robing us of what true driving experience is about. We may not see it right now but give it time, all of us who complained about the STI being "old" and "needs modern updates/ tech" will eventually realize the "old" & "outdated" feeling is what true drivers will crave, not a car that does the driving for us with its 20+ ECUs. We will all realize we were wrong for hating on the current STI and resent what we complained about. Once this old school STI is gone, it will take time for us to realize and wish there was still a driver focused sports car that retained that "old" 90s/ early 2000s JDM driving experience and style.

You guys are killing these intros! Well done! I have a 2012 STI hatch - which has been a great car, especially in the winter. I knew when I bought it new back then that the engine was old. It's 7 years later and not much has changed there. Subaru needs to seriously up the power. 80 more hp would be good for a start. Better fuel economy would be nice too.
Just picked up a 2019 STI back in July (ordered it in late April), and I love it. Been wanting one ever since they debuted in North America, and finally went ahead and grabbed one this year. Was debating waiting for the refresh, but since just about everything about is is a big unknown at this point, I went ahead and picked up the current generation. Would feel uncomfortable buying the first few years of a STI with a new engine, and on a new platform, anyway. Better to wait a few years to see what kind of problems pop up, and hopefully give Subaru time to address any issues.

just wanna say that I only stumbled upon this channel two days ago and it is now one of my favorite car review channels on youtube. Also, I always wanted an STI but its pricing never really drops in my country 😢
I like how this channel started out as a small e46 build channel and now it’s got high production levels and rocks as a car review channel + great fun like a Canadian too gear 😎👌🏻❤️
The STI is Canada is awesome. When the weather is bad and driving surfaces are tricky, this car is at another level. Not slow at all. Please. It was born in the corners.
I traded my ‘19 WRX limited in today on a ‘20 STI series.white. I think I like the FA motor just a little more and actually preferred the leather seats I had in the WRX too. Literally everything else seems nicer in the STI. They feel like 2 completely different cars with the same cockpit with the STI having nailed the experience of connecting to the road.
I love my 15 STI, but.... it needs revamped hardcore!! The Tomei TI exhaust is a must for any STI owner, I have it on mine and fuuuuuuck. Perfect sound.
Cherry Blossoms represent change in Japanese culture. So when they made a newer version of WRX back in the day, they put some cherry colouring on it. 8:59
Is it just me or the video quality has improved dramatically? Esp the shots from inside the car. The scenery outside almost feels surreal! As always, great vid guys!
Suhhduhh - Damn dude, I’m sorry to hear that. Did you have any mods, were you driving aggressively when it happened, and how was your oil level at the time? What’s your next move? Mine happened two years ago. Was stage 2, and hit 140 on the highway, then got off and next thing I know, the devil was knocking at my door 🤦🏽♂️. Dealer covered me under warranty, thankfully. I’ve heard of guys just driving normally down the road, stock, just to have a rod bearing go on them. Dealer took a month to get to my car so had to rent one all that time before they could give me a loaner, then they scuffed the whole face of one of my door handles smh. Terrible experience
I have 2016 stock sti with 65,000 miles , i use 98 octane and motul engine oil, car runs smoothly and no issues, if you gonna use low octane fule and cheap oil then you will hear the knock knock sound
Sti without wing is amazing. Wolf in sheep's clothing!! Great look. The sti needs a wagon/hatch version back!! All wheel drive + manual = priceless in a world of automatics. Owned a 2015 and now a 2019. Let's see what 2021 brings.
As the owner of an 09 STI hatch I can't imagine buying a 2020 sedan. I mean WHY? For an extra 5 horsepower and green brake calipers? Good God man, we've been waiting forever for a new gen STI. Its at least 5 years overdue!
ive gotta say since the beginning with the e46 and videos about swapping the diff - been a fan - videos are PRO level now! and entertaining ! awesome job!!
Never buy the first model year of a new car. Give them a year or two to iron out the kinks first. On the other hand, the 2020 STI is the very pinnacle of the current generation and would be a better buy right now imho
Hahahaha everyone wants to know. I got 16 mpg on average this week. That was me driving it 60% of the time in stop and go traffic, 40% open road. I’m not launching or doing any crazy stuff, and I’ve kept the RPMs low. I live in Southern California and Premium here is over 4 bucks a gallon. But I also knew that when I bought this car. If you want an STI, the last of the EJ, this is the most refined version of that engine (aside from the S209). You get exactly what you pay for, and this car is a blast. I love it.
Today i bought my blue 2020 STI with 5000 miles on it, childhood dreams come true. I was between STI and fk8 typeR, glad i went with the STI, hard to focus on driving because i like to look at the giant wing in the mirror 😆 probably i’d only take the seats of the typeR because STI seats are no different than the Camry’s
Some cars in that price range you mentioned like the Merc are just a whole different audience though. The driving experience is very numb in those cars, the WRX has always been a more raw experience. And even though these new ones are far more refined than what they used to be, they seem almost deliberately less so than their competition. And that's OK.
It’s a wonderful car, but for as old as some of the components are it is really hard to justify that price new. I picked up a low-miles 2017 lease return and saved over $10k. I highly recommend going that route if you find yourself wanting an STI in 2020.
Say you did it for your kids. Or if your like me and dont have kids but your wife wants em say "I wanted something fast and sporty but I also wanted to think about our future kids, so it needed to be safe and have 4 doors" worked for me 30 days ago. Also made a joke about recaro baby seats.
Let her drive it! If she doesn’t get it... she’s not the one for you. I bought one without my wife’s consent, and now 4 years later... she won’t let me get rid of the damn thing! 😂
My dad has a ‘19 STI, and By god that thing is fun. Sports sharp mode rips, sport mode gives it kick, so he just keeps it in sport, and intelligence mode is slow. Worth buying at the time.
I completely disagree about the lack of emotional attachment. I just bought my Type RA, specifically for the emotional attachment that it gives me to that original 2004 STi I had when they were first brought over to the USA. I owned a Focus RS, it was sharp but I had zero attachment to it. Golf R? Boring, no character. STi? Old, but in a "ole reliable" kind of way.... I know what she is and what she can do. And the sound she makes will forever get my heart pumping when I toss her about. The new model will lose the Subaru "rumble", and while technically it will be a "better" car, STi has always been about emotional attachment. At least, for most Subaru loyalists...
I really like how you said "but this is not how you drive an STI" !!!!! That says it perfectly. I get it quite regularly with my '19 STI - the " oh but your car is slow", And I reply , yes it is, until I get it on gravel, or snow, or banana peels !!!!!!!
In the year 2023, I was considering getting a 22’ wrx, but doing some research showed me that a 21’ or earlier sti is just better. Getting one from 2020 is now the same price as a new wrx, but with more power.
Design is good but outdated So in my opinion, price range is relatively high for outdated design. I think they need to go back to the frameless door designs and throw some new EJ engine in there, something to produce 350-380 hp with that 6 speed MT, then they can compete in mid 40s price range
No, the turbo FA24 will be a welcome change. The EJ ran its course. Having torque down low is a wonderful thing. Hopefully they keep the body looking as good as the current STI and keep the Manual. Fingers crossed.
psedog ...Is the new FA going to be DI or Port Injection? If it’s DI then I’m going to look at the old EJ motor, Direct Injection turbo engines have too many carbon buildup issues.
@@smokestack9795 They didn't specify in the Japanese article. At least not when I skimmed it. I went to a couple of convenience stores out here to try and find it, but I came up with goose eggs 😔
Still rocking my '14 STI last of the hatchbacks. First and probably final owner since I dont think I'll sell it. It feels like a car from the early 2000s in many good ways. Its like a car from the end of an era. Cars aren't like it anymore. It's rugged and raw compared to most cars these days and Its satisfying to drive.
I have a 2019 STI and I love it it’s been my dream daily since I was 15 I’m 24 now and can’t wait to see the new gen STI and how it will sound/compare. By the way it’s the prefect car for here In New York fuck the Snow
You buy the STI because you know what it is. It’s not something else other than what its designed for. No surprise it doesn’t have “2019 amenities”, but thats the charm of it (speaking to Mercedes comment). You buy it because of the heritage and because you want to feel like you’re driving something. It’s an awesome driving experience and I love driving it all the more because of the analog-ness of it. Call me bias for owning one, but I’ve driven some pretty incredible cars and I still would choose this over some of those. Engine may be old, but I dont think anyone would be crying if the EVO X came with a 4g63 still, or if the R35 came with an RB or if even the Supra came with a 2jz again. The EJ delivers smooth, usable, great power and it sounds amazing. I’m eager for the new platform but I will be sad to see the EJ go; just glad I bought one before they change.
@@forgetfulyoseph i’m gonna keep it stock for a while bc i’m 19 and don’t need more than 300hp so i we’ll just be tuning it to keep it reliable for the mods i’m gonna do, but thanks for the info

But to ignorant Canadians and Americans it's funny.
Ya hard to take any reviews serious when they shit on the car's background, history, and/or culture. (These guys aren't the first to be completely ignorant in that matter towards Subaru)
Shut up weeb
@@yesagreeable6965 Haha :P
@@yesagreeable6965 bruh i wasn't a weeb when i learned this, its common knowledge lmao
That was a quality intro. I love when these interesting youtubers get together and collaborate. It definitely makes for good entertainment.
just wanna say that I only stumbled upon this channel two days ago and it is now one of my favorite car review channels on youtube.
Also, I always wanted an STI but its pricing never really drops in my country 😢
Haha welcome . These guys are the best! Glad you found the community
Now go binge the rest of the vids from them. They are hilarious.
They dont go down in prices on any country
That's in every country buddy. Subies hold their value way to fuckin much
Welcome! Come for the intro, stay for the car review. 😉
I like how this channel started out as a small e46 build channel and now it’s got high production levels and rocks as a car review channel + great fun like a Canadian too gear 😎👌🏻❤️
*top (sorry drunk)
* I also like the new presenter he ads positively to the show... nice job guys 👌🏻
Thanks for hanging around for so long!
Throttle House thank youu ❤️
I like the synthwave soundtrack 👍
ArcadianGenesis can’t seem to find the track ☹️
“Do you buy an STI in 2020 or just wait for the new one?”
RIP to all the people who “waited for the new one” lmao
The STI is Canada is awesome. When the weather is bad and driving surfaces are tricky, this car is at another level. Not slow at all. Please. It was born in the corners.
I traded my ‘19 WRX limited in today on a ‘20 STI series.white. I think I like the FA motor just a little more and actually preferred the leather seats I had in the WRX too. Literally everything else seems nicer in the STI. They feel like 2 completely different cars with the same cockpit with the STI having nailed the experience of connecting to the road.
Loving the collabs these days fellas. Keep up the great work.
I love my 15 STI, but.... it needs revamped hardcore!! The Tomei TI exhaust is a must for any STI owner, I have it on mine and fuuuuuuck. Perfect sound.
I've got an invidia exhaust and it sounds amazing. I've gotten compliments on it from people with the tomei ti
Bought my '19 STi and I love almost everything about it.
Cherry Blossoms represent change in Japanese culture. So when they made a newer version of WRX back in the day, they put some cherry colouring on it. 8:59
Best intro. Winner of it all.
"End of the Line, Pal" Oh if they only knew at the time
Is it just me or the video quality has improved dramatically? Esp the shots from inside the car. The scenery outside almost feels surreal! As always, great vid guys!
LOVE THE INTRO 😂
i love you guys, no bias, these are the reviews we need
This aged well =)
I've always been WRX STI and Forester Turbo Fan . There is something about those models I absolutely love
Last of the EJ's will be a collectors item ..
Yeah for people who collect engines with spun bearings and cracked ringlands
Best car reviews period!!! You guys are so much fun.
You had me at, “this is the last iteration...”
Your opening monologues kill me! Can’t wait to see your antics on TV or a movie.
Knock knock
Who's there?
EJ Engine 🤷♂️
Lol. This comment is giving me flashbacks and cold sweat because one of my rod bearings went on my STi
Yup, one of my bearings just went out, no fun
Interlution Matthew is right, EJ20 don’t knock... You guys never had it, such a great engine ! Have a 2003 Blobeye STI Type UK PPP 🤙🏼
I have 2016 stock sti with 65,000 miles , i use 98 octane and motul engine oil, car runs smoothly and no issues, if you gonna use low octane fule and cheap oil then you will hear the knock knock sound
This has been my fave channel for a few months now. Keep it up guys!
Sti without wing is amazing. Wolf in sheep's clothing!! Great look. The sti needs a wagon/hatch version back!! All wheel drive + manual = priceless in a world of automatics.
Owned a 2015 and now a 2019. Let's see what 2021 brings.
Wojtek P wing for life
Can't remember the exact year, maybe 2012 or 2013 model year, all impreza including the STI were hatchback only.
This is the top trim of an economy car. Why would anybody want it to look like it's the base trim(without a wing). It makes no sense to me.
@@boss4330 so it's not rice
@@gigel99324 Rice is when you put a wing and loud exhaust on a 90 hp car. On a 310 HP car(street version of a rally car) the wing is legit.
I can't believe I just came across this one since I've been a Throttle House & an Engineering Explained fan for awhile. Two thumbs up... 👍👍
As the owner of an 09 STI hatch I can't imagine buying a 2020 sedan. I mean WHY? For an extra 5 horsepower and green brake calipers? Good God man, we've been waiting forever for a new gen STI. Its at least 5 years overdue!
How reliable has it been, how many miles do you have on it
@@joeypenkal376 100 percent reliable. Basic maintenance only so far.
J K how many miles do you have on it ? I’m thinking about it
@@joeypenkal376 110000
J K I’ll take note into that thanks
ive gotta say since the beginning with the e46 and videos about swapping the diff - been a fan - videos are PRO level now! and entertaining ! awesome job!!
For a second, I thought I clicked on the wrong video.
I just literally got done test driving a 2015 STI and this video pops up. The RUclips algorithm is strong today 😂😂😂
Ok you guys have solidly positioned yourselves as the intro kings by now! That was great! 😆
I'm missing the Mitsubishi Evo when I see this
Me too bro
Same :'(
Evo vs Sti days, those were good times.
There it is. Can't have an Sti video without an evo mention lol
Ikr I just want the Evo back, or the entire glory days of Mitsubishi 😭
Yes what a cast! Absolutely jumped out of my seat when i saw all 3 of yall on the video.
Never buy the first model year of a new car. Give them a year or two to iron out the kinks first. On the other hand, the 2020 STI is the very pinnacle of the current generation and would be a better buy right now imho
I just bought a 2020 STI, very easy to daily drive. I love this car
What's your average fuel economy in sti?
Hahahaha everyone wants to know. I got 16 mpg on average this week. That was me driving it 60% of the time in stop and go traffic, 40% open road. I’m not launching or doing any crazy stuff, and I’ve kept the RPMs low. I live in Southern California and Premium here is over 4 bucks a gallon. But I also knew that when I bought this car. If you want an STI, the last of the EJ, this is the most refined version of that engine (aside from the S209). You get exactly what you pay for, and this car is a blast. I love it.
STI is Following on it's Best friend's footsteps,
We already lost a legend called the Evo
Now The STI as well?
No you're incorrect. Actually it's being improved. And itll have a big power boost.the redesign will be an amazing car
Today i bought my blue 2020 STI with 5000 miles on it, childhood dreams come true. I was between STI and fk8 typeR, glad i went with the STI, hard to focus on driving because i like to look at the giant wing in the mirror 😆 probably i’d only take the seats of the typeR because STI seats are no different than the Camry’s
i am 16 yo. I am gonna buy these before this decade ends. marks my words DAD!!!!!!!
You guys always have the best intros! Love this channel
I bought my 2019 STI and Take it off road and beat the crap out of it all the time. Favorite part of the car IMO
Off road ... ? Really
Instant like for engineering explained appearance
Some cars in that price range you mentioned like the Merc are just a whole different audience though. The driving experience is very numb in those cars, the WRX has always been a more raw experience. And even though these new ones are far more refined than what they used to be, they seem almost deliberately less so than their competition. And that's OK.
It’s a wonderful car, but for as old as some of the components are it is really hard to justify that price new. I picked up a low-miles 2017 lease return and saved over $10k. I highly recommend going that route if you find yourself wanting an STI in 2020.
Yo how do I break it to my wife that I just got an STI? 🤷♂️
Take her shopping... You have space.
At least it's not an STD, so you're good mate.
GimmeTacos she should file for divorce just for you buying a new car with old technology...
Canadian weather - best car. STI + Deep snow + winter tires = a lot of fun
Am I the only one who still likes the STI
Exactly!
Totally agree!!! The focus and the golf just dont have that raw driving experience that the STI have
Boxer rumble... It's what _actually_ makes a Subaru a Subaru.
I really like how you said "but this is not how you drive an STI" !!!!! That says it perfectly. I get it quite regularly with my '19 STI - the " oh but your car is slow", And I reply , yes it is, until I get it on gravel, or snow, or banana peels !!!!!!!
My favourite channel after scotty’s on RUclips
In the year 2023, I was considering getting a 22’ wrx, but doing some research showed me that a 21’ or earlier sti is just better. Getting one from 2020 is now the same price as a new wrx, but with more power.
Design is good but outdated
So in my opinion, price range is relatively high for outdated design.
I just love the simplicity of this car, compared to most modern cars.
Lol the torque dip on the BRZ FA engine curve.
L G header and tune baby lol
Was that mentioned in this video? I missed that bit
Bryan Liguori in the first scene. Where Jason drew the power curves
Ohh the illustration lol yeah, it's a thing. I need headers and a tune. Or an STI.
By the way it’s the prefect car for here In New York fuck the Snow
i come for the intro's and stay for the reviews. Bravo lol
ROFL @ "I just drew an EJ engine!"
7:41 the one on the left looks like a hobbit from that angle
i’m currently in the process of buying a 2017 STI, it’ll be my first sti
I recommend buying a 2019 and up , cause it has the type ra block
@@forgetfulyoseph i’m gonna keep it stock for a while bc i’m 19 and don’t need more than 300hp so i we’ll just be tuning it to keep it reliable for the mods i’m gonna do, but thanks for the info
@parkersmith9924 the reason I mentioned was cause my friend own a 2017 and he was all stock he had issues after issues. So who knows how the previous owner took care of the car .
@@forgetfulyoseph true that, i’m gonna baby it for a while tbh, still open it up but i’m not gonna harp on it to hard
