Had one of these 40 years ago. Could never get it to work because was like this one in the beginning. Really loved to see how it works. One of my favorite videos you have shown. Your expertise never ceases to amaze me. Blessings and stay safe.

My grandpa had one of those. As a kid me and the other grandchildren would beg him to let us use it. I think we may have planted more fields than he did. He was a very smart man. This brings back such wonderful memories. I love your canine helper too!! Thank you for sharing.

I grew up on a Dutch Amish farm in Pennsylvania and have used several different types of these planters! They do their job pretty good for smaller farms. Terrific restoration of a ole underrated tool! these tools were invaluable to the farm!.

Yes, I agree, smaller growers in our country still use them today.

Sitting here in awe. Hard to believe that the first 15 minutes were spent taking this modern miracle to bare bones. Was a miraculous feat. This is by far the top 10 on restorations, if not the #1!

Long ago I had a Planet Jr planter. It had a chain drive and interchangeable, non-adjustable cylindrical seed plates. I wish it had a clutch because the chain was given to jumping off the sprocket if you rolled it backwards more than a couple inches. The adjacent row marker/follower is a nice touch on yours! When we planted corn with a tractor and 4-row planter we had a length of steel pipe strapped to the weight blocks at the front of the tractor. From the end a chain dangled and you'd put that right over the closest furrow of the previous pass to keep the row spacing correct.

Mona you did superb job supervising all that work. Another awesome restoration, even down to treating all the woodworm holes. Truly wonderful.
Spare a moment to think on the genius who came up with the idea, worked, designed, no doubt thru many prototypes, before getting it just right.

I come from a farming background and am age 59, my father was a farmer and would have been 80 this year. Machines like this were laid rusting around farms in the UK when I was a child.
I think it is a machine for planting root crops like turnip, carrots, sugar beet. Certainly, a type of crop grown in rows. Unlikely to have been used for cereal crops like wheat or barley. They might have been used maybe 100 years ago on small farms and in horticulture in the UK.
