I am 72 years old and have had a very hard working life and from the look of your dads right hand as he held the shifty knob he is a very hard worker also. I found this very touching and it brought tears to my eyes as i watched your Dad. I was watching your dads hand as he held that shift knob. Once you start shifting a stick on the floor your hand hold on the knob never changes we all grip it the same as the first time we held that knob.

I thought the same thing, you can always tell a long life of hard work by looking at someones hands. That man has been a worker his whole life.

years ago we were listening to my, at the time sister in law, she was proudly telling us a story about how her father stole a bunch of silver from where he worked, and buried it in their back yard, she proudly proclaimed "he had a family to support!" later, after she left, my mom turned to me, and said, "your father had a family to support too, if things got bad, he would just go get another job." which makes me far prouder of my father, than I would be if he stole. God, am I glad she's gone!

Back in 2006 when my grandmother passed away who was my best friend, and life hasnt been the same since without her, one thing i got to keep vehicle wise was the tag off her van, i just turned 23 now, if i woulda been this old then id have that van, but me and my dad pull garden tractors and for years the one we pull now til 2 years ago when we changed it, where the headlights go on it or a plate to cover the holes up on the grill we put the tag there. So to me this was touching, I know your dad was crying tears of joy on the inside when you brought that truck back.

In 98 my dad and shopped for his last new truck, 98 Ram. He made his last payment September 98, and passed away suddenly. I had his truck for a few years and sold it for financial reasons. It broke my heart. For 10 years it ate me alive. Then I bought it back. It's in worse shape than your dads 97, but salvageable. It's where I feel close to him, that part of me that died many years ago has been brought back to life. I hope to restore her to the way he had it and pass it down to my kids if I'm ever blessed to have them. Great video. So happy for you and glad your dad is still here to share in this memory.

I sold my 1999 dodge ram ten years ago and recently found it and immidiateley started working on it. My dad helped me buy it when i was a teenager (my first ever vehicle/truck) im a dodge guy through and through. I also recently finished restoring a 1996.. my dad calls the 96 "my truck" because he likes it so much. A little over $23000 invested in my 96. But nothing beats seeing your old man smile. Cant wait to eventually give him the keys.

It's great to finally see someone trying to keep or get back a truck that means a lot to them - not only pretend it does mean a lot to them and then mercilessly throw it away for some new junk! Gotta love your attitude!
Theres way to many folks going like "oh this thing means so much to me" and bla bla and a little later you see them trade it in just for some shiny new paint.

this reminds me of how I got my mom's 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee back that was our family car growing up. My mother was in a wreck with it on the freeway which wasn't her fault, but it was deemed totaled and I bought it back out of an auction years later - Repaired every little bit over a period of six months, and now it's in gorgeous mint condition. I'm glad to have it back in the family, and with over 180,000 miles, it's still running very nicely and strong. Prior to the wreck, the transmission had gone bad and she'd replaced it with a Mercedes Benz transmission, so that won't need replacing for another lifetime. Next to come is the engine if it ever gives out, but it's showing no signs of that yet. The Jeep was appraised at over $12,000 with how clean I have it, which is near the original price! Others of the same year now run at about $5k to $8k

Man I know that feeling grew up in my 24v my pops imported it to the UK in 99 it's taken him up until last year to pass it on! We went through hard times closing our family run business the truck ended up tucked away for 5 or 6 years he just wouldn't get rid of it. then he finally called up to say it's time I got some use out of it. Massively sentimental to my old man and me. Probably one of the 1st Cummins rams to be sent over this side of the pond.

Great deal, any mechanic has to feel something for getting and old HD truck back that he bought new, especially if he had to give it up against his will. I'm sure it means a lot to him regardless of any outward show of emotion.

This is pretty inspiring man not gonna lie, I've been thinking about doing this for my dad as well but with his Datsun 260z. This video just showed me that it is possible with just a little bit of dedication.

When my father in law passed a similar situation happened to me and I understand, mine was the same a Cummins same color and a 5 speed as well. I know how you feel. I have the truck now and drive 3 days a week to work and think about him everytime I drive it. Its a 02 forest green standard cab manual 2 wheel drive Cummins bone stock and an awesome old man truck. My main truck is 03 Cummins 4 door 6 speed and is a great truck too but the old mans truck reminds me of him and I will not ever get rid of it just give to my son.

My grandpa bought a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 back in 2001 with 10k miles on it and he has owned it ever since. I grew up in that truck and he still owns it to this day. When he’s done with it he’s going to pass it down to me and it’ll never leave my possession. The memories I have in that truck are priceless.

Damn man this hits home. My family went through hard times in 06, my parents lost our home with all of their life savings invested. My Dad still had his 03 6.0, but he struggled to make payments on it and keep it running (1st gen 6.0 probs lol). I remember answering the door to the repo man when we were living in an apartment, telling him my dad was asleep and his response was "well you better wake him up" as they hooked up his truck to the tow truck. He managed to get it back and eventually pay it off, and the truck was given to my brother once he got back on his feet.

Almost same thing happened to me, but it was a motorcycle instead. My dad had this old Yamaha RD350, his favorite bike model ever of any motorcycle ever made. He bought all banged up, and restored to pristine condition, like it had just came out of the dealer, but after a hard financial hit that we never really rocovered from, he had to sell it to make ends meet 20 years ago. I loved that motorcycle, he used to take me on rides when I was just a toddler, and it had such an impact on me that my most vivid memories of when I was that young were of that bike. It was the bike that made me like motorcyels, and I always wanted that bike, not just the model itself, but my dad's motorcycle.
Around february 2020 I stumbled with the daughter of the man he sold the bike by sheer happenstance, she was interning on the vet clinic I work at, on my break I was browsing one of these sales apps, hoping to find a motorcycle of the same model as my dad's, and I spoke out loud 'man, the bike I want is never on sale' and she asked if I liked motorcycles, to which I answered yes. From then on we developed the conversation, she said she had some bikes to sell, one of which being a RD350, I immediatelly got interesd and when she showed me the picture I was fucking floored, it was my dad's motorcycle, I knew that because it had an inverted color palette. I told her he sold it to a guy who was the president of a motorcycle club, and she confirmed that her father was that guy. It had been sitting in a garage for four years, her father had passed away, and since she didn't know what to do, she left it i her garage, abandoned.
And now, that bike is back home, where it belongs, me and my dad are working on restoring it back to it's original condition. It'll be difficult, and costly, but I dont care, I'm realizing a dream.
