AFL should have retro round back. Because it gives clubs and fans to celebrate their clubs history and heritage. As a Fremantle supporter its been awesome to see the club roll out the anchor every year in different incarnations. For Brisbane a chance to celebrate the heritage of Fitzroy and the Brisbane Bears. Sydney Swans to celebrate its past as South Melbourne, Port Adelaide for the famous prison bars strip given they don't face Collingwood. Even the Western Bulldogs with the old Footscray strip. Not only as we look at the future but also look back.

You can make some jumpers look iconic by Essendon and Bulldogs wearing red shorts for instance, A classic 70s look would have Rich Eagles and Brisbane wearing yellow shorts. With long socks too remember. So there are some tricks they could do. But ultimately problem is all the gimmick rounds like pride and indigenous that should stop. I'd like to see international round maybe. Would Melbourne like to wear union jack. Or if Bulldogs wore Russian flag design on their jumper and Eagles wore Ukraine, what then?

Perhaps the AFL need to follow Taylor Swift and have Eras rounds each year. 1920s with knickerbockers and players wearing caps (at least onto the ground). 1970s with players embracing mutton chops and chopper reid moustaches. Allow players to get creative like the US athletes, turning up to the game fully embracing the concept. Even think of NZ cricketers when they wore their classic coffee one day outfits from the early 1980s. Iconic look, especially when players decided I am the walrus and even wore headbands and the like.

Retro round can allow clubs to experiment again. How do Essendon fans react to a wider red sash and red shorts. How Port fans react to more teal and a lightning bolt. How about a Docker anchor or green and red... Melbourne with royal blue jumper... Bulldogs red shorts... Eagles experiment dark gold or ochre... A good time to experiment with jumper shorts or designs.

    • @BDub2024
      @BDub2024 5 месяцев назад

@@dougieboxell6505 10 years ago they did the sash too wide. Perth Football Club in 1970s and 80s had virtually the same jumper as Essendon but with red collar, red trimmings and a slightly wider sash. Red socks too. It looked better. Essendon don't need to do too much and they wouldn't need to wear their clash jumper as much. So I reckon they could play around with their home jumper for some matches against some teams... Minor tweaks can make the jumpers look totally different. If Ess played Rich and one team wore red shorts and the other yellow, there were be no confusion at all. They'd be able to wear their home strips more often.

    Pretty ordinary selections.
Heritage/retro round should include a variety of jumpers from different points in the history of each club, and I'd say the older ones of the older clubs are for more exciting to see used in modern times.
It looks like you've only looked at the last 30 years. When theres 160 years of the game, thats not so "retro". Some clubs are that young, and younger, sure, but the old VFL clubs, Port Adelaide, and a couple others I think should use jumpers from long, long ago. That'd be more exciting to me as a fan, and i think more creative.
Adelaide - you could get pretty creative and use something from the original Adealide footy club, as it seems like they have in the past.
Brisbane, mate, so many good jumpers to choose from between the bears & lions. Understand the reasoning, but I think it's a bit irrelevant. The better jumpers look better, theres no need to embrace the shittier ones.
Carlton - excellent choice, lets hope they make it a clash jumper. Their indeginous jumper last year was a similar colour (or maybe I'm thinking year before).
Collingwood - yeah, good jumper, but you could go real retro and look at the og 1890s jumpers, most of them having different widths & amount of the vertical stripes. Or, you could change to blue, red and white fro Britinnia, the club that Collingwood merged out of.
Essendon - jesus, can people just stop slagging us off for one minute. "Most boring jumper history", shouldn't it be a massive achievement to have the same jumper for over 100 years? Shows some true loyalty, stoicism, and oppulence in not needing to change. Shows a very rich value of tradition and pride, imo.
In any case, red shorts are a must.
Id rather the super skinny sash with the skinny vertical line through it, or you could go with navy blue jumpers with a red sash. If only you did your homework. Tough ask for a youtuber, I know.
Fremantle - south or east Freo would make great choices, as would their classic anchor jumper.
Geelong - happy with this choice
Gold coast - the wave jumper looked horrid. Given the location and how big this club has been prebiously, and that they almost joined the AFL in the 90s, and their friggen name is on the stands at Cararra (or at least used to be when it was called Metricon stadium...), if they could use Southport Sharks' jumper, that'd be awesome. Being a different entity that still exists tho, mihht be difficult, legally.....
GWS - not really any other choice here.
Hawthorn - the mayblooms jumper would be better
Norf - so many to choose from, being such an old club. I do like their original VFL jumper of blue with the white V. The V is overused, but those colours make it look really good.
    Port - good choice here.
Richmond - stripes are a good idea, the thin horizontal ones look pretty cool, but could also go the vertical ones too
Saints - the canterbury jumper would be pretty cool, theyve used it recently tho
Sydney - definitely something south melbourne related
West coast - the WA jumper looked pretty cool. Wonder if theyd ever consider a West Perth jumper, since they made a run for VFL in the 80s
Bulldogs - hard to go past the roaring bulldog, not many options here. Think they wore a different colour at the very beginning of their history, but for a very short time, since they were known as the tricolours for a long time.
