Hurray for a pretty EV wagon, finally... But now you need to justify the price and small battery versus the Model S hatchback that's existed for 12 years already, and probably has more cargo space, and saves a lot of time on long driving days by just going way further. I think German brands except for Porsche are just being ultra lazy in their design and engineering, especially when it comes to BEVs. The Audi A6 that shoudl have the Macan drivetrain might be a difficult option to ignore. But if the Lucid Air came as a wagon, I'd just go for that one in stead. Tesla...too common but sadly hard to beat apart from creature comforts. Will Jaguar survive the BEV change? Their XF Sportbrake is amazing. seats fold pretty flat, car looks great. Just slightly expensive optioned out and terrible resale value. If only they got a great chassis for the BEV route, like the Taycan or even Macan or cheapest Lucid.

Along with the missing felt in the map pockets, we’d also like to have back the soft close doors, comfort access on the rear door handles, seat back pockets, door sill plaques, ambient lighting on the rear doors, and full leather on the dash and door tops. It’s also missing dual pane glass, which is pretty common on EVs to reduce road noise, even coming standard on the much cheaper Model 3 now. The cost cutting BMW did on this is ridiculous

So continuing the trend of cost savings from the limousine, trunk cover is not retracting like at the G31, the tailgate window (a trademark and also perhaps a selling point sometimes compared with A6 Avant) not openable, release of the backseats seems to be now manual and not electrical like at G31 and these only at the first sight.

  • @TRONICSfer
    @TRONICSfer 11 месяцев назад +2

That's what I was waiting for! I bought G31 based on your review 😂
But G31 all models got air suspension in the back as standard... Then they removed classic 5 touring electric trunk cover... Did they at least keep that rear glass can be opened independently? At least they kept smooth rear seat folding mechanism. I also see they removed emergency triangle cover that was nicely hidden behind the plastic... G31 had at least half padded door storage compatment... And the rear arm rest cup holders were way more unique in G31... So BMW is cutting corners in robustness, comfort and accessibility on each part of the car and for what... Flashy light bars, big unintuitive screens and touch buttons! It better to get G31 LCI while you still can... It would be interesting to see side by side comparison of G31 and this... But I wouldn't change my G31 for this, as it is properly German overengineered.

Hi Thomas. Once again, I appreciate the finer details you mention, door closing sound, seat folding mechanism, and interior lighting. I don't understand why BMW allowed a disjointed LED strip across the dash. It just looks incongruent. Hard pack material is not acceptable in this car. Especially since the previous model had soft touch on the entire door. Even the F30 3 series has vinyl on the lower door panel. Perhaps hard pack is more resistant to scuffs, but it feels cheap. BMW can do better.

8:50 Why should BMW make that piece of plastic look or feel nice? Is the price not already high enough? Reviewers often complain about cheap/scratchy plastic in places that intended to be durable. I do not get it.

    Lmao looking at those rims.
I lost 7 tires and a 21 inch rim in 22 months with my m550 xdrive driving on North Texas roads. Once 2 tires off of the front passenger within 24 h, the fronts are especially vulnerable to diving into pavement defects. They felt so bad for me that they didn’t charge me (tire was insured).
No more sport sedans, or sport anything, until I move back to SFlorida.

Given that I don't see myself spending money for any other body shape than an estate, this is appealing and it'll be fun to see what of the small problems will be fixed for production model. Personally, I have to add that if there has to be a panoramic glass roof, it's great that this one at least has a proper sliding fabric cover. The glass roof is a feature many companies love to push down the throat and doing plenty of winter driving, something I'd pay to not have. I hate the cold eminating down to the neck from those pointless glass roofs when it's -30 C..But even a fairly thin fabric cover provides surprising amounts of insulation.

Their strategy to have one platform for all drive trains does mean it’s a jack of all and master of none (ice V e).
As a combi, it’s still smaller than Tesla Model Y, many of the VW ID models are similar for luggage.
Imagine of the front had storage and the rear leg room was better- it’s a long car but not that spacious.
If you get the E model and put a roof box on, the range will drop a lot- that’s where a better packaged electric model makes more sense

Love it, will look to replace my G31 with this one, disappointing to see the ambient lighting gone from the rear. Surprised it wasn’t mentioned, it’s the favourite feature of kids in the back. Also the cover on the boot is a step backward from current electric one and the glass not opening. Quite a few cuts in features

(16:40) ... yeah, I prefer all-metal roofs myself, because of all the problems with glass in the roofs (that your mechanics mention, but which are rife everywhere on automotive forums) ... they are hard to keep clean, they add weight and cost, they can crack (and in many cases even shatter/explode) from kicked up or falling debris (rocks/branches) or from temperature differentials over time (heat/cold, on a flat surface), they can be annoying heat-wise and light-wise in cars where you can't shut out the roof-glass light, and they can be much worse in a rollover accident than all-metal roofs.

Rear lights looks more lively than the ones on the sedan which is good. But in my opinion the F11 looks the best from the rear among all 5 touring models. The portion of the windows/lights/Hofmeister kink/D pillar are just right and beautiful. For G31 the rear lights are a bit too large and for G61 the Hofmeister kink doesn’t look so right.
