Pokemon Horizons Episode 5: I Found You, Fuecoco!
to sum it up: I really liked this episode! especially compared to last weeks one. But I was actually surprised that we got a shot but sweet shipping moment! xD Did not expect that...

I had a feeling that you would start shipping Liko and Roy together after this episode.
I gotta admit, that moment when Liko basically thought "wait, does he mean me?" took me a bit off guard😳.
But it makes sense why she thought that, it fits with her character.
I like that it's very understated and just a quick thought she had and then we move on from that.
I still don't know how I want their dynamic to be for the rest of the series, but if we get a couple more cute moments like this one I'm certainly not gonna be the one complaining.
They're just both really cute. Hopefully we get plenty of wholesomeness.
I don't really ship them but I do think it fits her character, she is constantly over thinking stuff, heck this even haoppened when Amethio was after her and she thought she was a heroine who everyone was chasing after, so yh Liko is basically just a shy kid who is overreacting to everything internally 😂
Liko + Roy = Leeroy. And their child in every fanfic must be named "Jenkins."
Captain Pikachu is extremely bad ass to the point where no one cares that he is a merch tool.

They're a sweet ship so I like for liko and roy to be together!
I mean it is basically amourshipping 2.0 and unlike that ship there's like no competition for any other ship other than this one, at least currently.
Personally I found there interactions this episode felt more sibling friend like than anything remotely romantic. Also Roy seems to be younger so he gives of a little brother feel to Liko, so I think it's far too soon to be claiming shipping.
Of course I'm aware people these days will take even the slightest interactions to ship people. Heck I've already seen some stuff hinting at shipping Amethio and Friede.

With Fuecoco, he kinda reminds me of Ash's Cyndaquil as both need time to actually muster up their firepower. Also, you know I've had this suspicious impression for a little while now & I wanted to give benefit of the doubt since the show just started, but based on this ep, it kinda feels possibly accurate that minus Friede, the rest of the Volt Tacklers aren't really that battle-strong. And Liko's prowess is starting to rise (I mean Sprigatito does have the advantage on Golduck & Rhydon), but in order for Liko to really counter the Explorers, she & Spirgatito need battle training; and/or possibly catch a new pokemon with speed-mobility and/or flight

Alright, TIME FOR MY THOUGHTS (in comment form). Wooooo? Bullet points as usual if you want to respond to certain points:
1.) Roy pepping up Fuecoco with SONG is so strange but so hilarious at the same time! -Nice potential foreshadowing-
2.) I REALLY like that moment when Roy and Liko are visibly shaken because of how dire the current situation. Really emphasizes the fact that... yeah, these two are children in the thick of some crazy stuff. Sprigatito and Fuecoco comforting them was so wholesome.
3. Amethio was great as always. He is SO hyperfocused that he not only refused Zir and Conia's ship takeover, but as soon as he saw Likio, BOOM. Gone. And Corviknight's about to grab the young girl in its talons and then CLIFFHANGER. GEEEEZ.
4. Didn't love the offscreen victory Liko had over Conia (this is technically her FIRST victory). Booooooo.
4.5) Conia briefly recalling her fond memories with Sprigattio was cute. 🙃
5.) When it comes to the Rising Volt Tacklers not doing so hot against Zir and Conia, well... at least you could argue that Orla and Metagross were still exhausted from before but I appreciate the drive to protect their home despite that.
6.) Friede REALLY needs to pay attention. Lol. I love the fact that Amethio was annoyed at him not taking the battle seriously but now Friede can only watch as Liko is in serious danger (or so it would appear).
What I also really loved is the reactions of both Liko and Sprigatito during that song: Liko just being so confused while Sprigatito seems to already be over the whole concept of singing to get stronger xD
I honestly really liked the shaking moment not only for the reason you gave, but mostly because it really shows how much Liko cares about the RVT and how Roy really cared about it, because it's the home of two individuals he really cares about (aka Liko and Fuecoco)
It's so nice to see someone like Amethio being so hyper focused on his mission since it shows how professional he is. The only time we actually saw Team Rocket being this professional was during the bw days. And even even he prioritizes his mission I still like how they showed his pride as a pokemon battler like when he got slightly annoyed because friede didn't fully pay attention towards their battle. And only because he is such a stern character doesn't mean that the explorers are serious all the time especially seen with the example of conia who really is somewhat of a comedic relief within the gang.
But yeah I also didn't really like that Liko first ever win was not only as basically a beginner with barely any experience but also against a supposively strong opponent and on top of that : OFF SCREEN! and I'm glad that a lot of people in the comments actually pointed it out as well and that they didn't like that.
And yeah I totally forgot that Orla Was totally exhausted because of her working on the ship that really slipped my mind. 😅
Maybe it bothered me a Lil bit, because she is a trainer of a metagross and metagross trainers in the past were displayed as really strong.
But it's still kinda weird to me that Friede is the only one in the entire crew who seems to be a competent battler.
They cute.
Also, really liked the lead-in to the battle with the storm clouds gathering and the crew facing down the Explorers. Also, Amethio getting annoyed with Friede for continually getting distracted, and then taking advantage of it when Liko shows up to lunge for her on his Corviknight.
If I have any complaints tho, it's Liko's victory over Conia being completely offscreen, or really winning at all when she doesn't really have any battle experience. (Compare to Zir's Rhydon batting her Sprigatito's Leafage away like it was nothing. She hasn't battled since then, and she somehow beat Conia's Golduck? I know Leafage is kinda depicted as OP after Sprigatito synced with Liko, but it's something that bugged me.)
I thought that Liko's battle being completely off screen was hilarious, if not a bit lazy. But I also feel like each episode having the same battles is getting kinda tired already. When we had a another Friede vs Amethio battle I actually out loud said "ofc they're gonna battle!"

Sprig is basically ever cat I've ever seen although ima have to disagree with it since I really like thier singing, Ro has a really nice voice and the song is really catcy, I even found myself humming the tune while making breakfast this morning!
Roy deserves someone better, and Liko needs someone better, the world says, but they don't listen and as there hands lace...
I really like Liko x Roy. But since Nemona apparently seems to appear in the anime really soon...their might be a rival for Liko 😂

I really enjoyed this episode, especially since it doesn't make me miss Team Rocket in the slightest. I loved the moment when Roy sang to encourage Fuecoco to use Ember, and I was disappointed that Liko's first win happened offscreen. I'm giving this episode a 9/10.
I feel like what should have happened when Roy started singing for Fuecoco, Zir should have let his guard down, thinking about what Roy was even doing in the middle of the battle. So the reason the Ember hit was more due to how the singing that Roy did just threw Zir and his Rhydon's off for a moment. Basically, it was merely a fluke.
I’m not gonna lie, I actually think they’d be a pretty good couple. Their dynamic is great and they seem good for each other due to their contrasts
Orla and metagross were already tired from staying awake the night for the repairs.
Molly is more of the support trainer with her healing pokemon than a battler I believe.
Concerning the animation, this episode likely has not so good animation compared to the other episodes because it is golden week in japan
Interesting. But then again I thought episodes are worked weeks in advance so I don't really think that GW has something to do with that
@PokemonRangerBoy12 it actually is a strategic decision done by some weekly anime. Even though episodes are worked weeks in advance. Production chose to sacrifice the episode that air on Golden Week by working less on it. People automatically associate the reduction in quality with golden week. The extra time saved is used to work even earlier on future episodes to ensure Golden Week does not leave an impact on those episodes. This is because if people see, for example, episode 9 with not good quality animation, the idea of it being the impact of golden week will not even cross their mind because of how long it has been since golden week. That's why the episode that airs on golden week for many weekly anime does not have good quality animation. The staff often do not choose to make sure both the episode that air on Golden Week and the episode work on during Golden Week have excellent animation because it could lead to staff getting too much workload by having to catch up the days missed due to holidays
I don't know if it is the case for pokemon, though. But this did happen for studio pierrot , more precisely Boruto anime last year where one of the episodes some people were hyped for got a bad quality animation and these people were mad about it and one of the freelancers animators explained how it ends up being because of the golden week.

It could be argued that Conia's golduck lost to sprigitito bc it was already tired from battling Orla's metagross just moments earlier. When it comes to battle animation you have to put into account that horizons had 4 major battles in 5 episodes with the first 3 having AMAZING animation. For comparison, Jouneys didn't have its first battle until episode 7 (ash vs hodge) and sun and moon, aside from the quick battle with team skull, didn't have its first battle until episode 9. So I wouldn't worry. The battles in episodes 1 & 2 proved that the animators are more than capable of polishing an amazing battle when that is the purpose of the scene. PS. Fwococo landed ember probably bc Rydon wasn't trying to dodge it. Rydon is a rock type going up against a first stage fire started who at the start of the battle couldn't use any fire moves at all. And what is an ember going to do anyway?
It is also golden week in Japan and some animators maybe got to be on holiday and golden week has three public holidays, so 3 days of no work possibly for the staff
I still have worries that the animation will get bad. Is there enough budget for their animation? Because in this episode the animation AND battle writing was not really good. Just compare it to the pikachu vs Ceruledge fight...
@C H X I D A I like I said, it is golden week in Japan. So, there is less days of work on this episode compared to previous ones. This has nothing to do with the budget, but more about the staff taking breaks on atleast 3 days instead of working

@C H X I D A I what weekly anime does from the trend I saw about weekly anime. This week is golden week, so an upcoming episode like 9 or 10 would have bad quality is what you think because the episodes must has been made ready earlier ( they don't try to make all episodes perfect. The staff as well are humans and need work life balance). But people would not understand that and just think the quality is just decreasing because they don't know which episode was actually made during golden week. So what the staff do , they see which episode will air on Golden week and work less on that one for people to understand this is because of golden week and start to work much more earlier on the next episodes so that when golden week actually arrives, they are able to complete the production of episode 9 or 10 earlier with good animation thanks to the time saved by spending less time of the episode which air on golden week
( I took episode 9 or 10 as example, it can be any of the upcoming episodes)

Also personally I don't really ship Liko with anyone seeing how she was flustered by Fried at first as well. I think they kind of have an older sister-younger brother vibe going on. I kind of see both of them as the little kid's sibling of the crew while Fried is the cool older brother

the episode was really good but ehh, as much as i like to see liko n roy bonding, i don't really see anything romantic there. that moment was cute but honestly i think i'd rather them be best friends than anything, that and the fact that it's still taking time for me to warm up to roy in general (i also don't think i want an amourshipping 2.0 as i think that relationship was already special enough and i feel replicating it wouldn't have the same effect)

While I have no issue with the Liko x Roy ship and wouldn't be upset if they became canon, I honestly see them a *lot* more as just being best friends. Like they've definitely got a bond being set up there and they have little moments like the one Long mentioned, but I almost feel like it would be more interesting to have a female and male protagonist who journey places and bond together as besties (or like a brother / sister type of relationship) rather than as a couple. But to each their own, and hopefully we get more sweet moments with them in future episodes! :)
Well I finally Watched episode 5 and it was good! It’s still got my Interest, although this episode has some moments that are just okay! Anyway Liko is still great, I enjoyed her and Roy’s Interactions with each other. Although I don’t know if I’m going to ship them both right away, but maybe I’ll ship them as they Continue to get closer on the adventure or adventures together. One thing I’ will say is that the Shipping between Liko and Roy has begun to set sail for most fans. I also Considering shipping to other characters in Pokémon Horizon, but for now I’m keeping it to myself for now. Roy is good, but he still has some more development to do. I’m looking forward to seeing that happen to Roy. Anyway, I’m enjoying Fuecoco, the fire apple gator Pokémon is starting to grow on me. I also enjoy seeing him and Roy together. I believe they are Meant to be parters. I enjoyed see Roy’s island home, but I hope that Liko, Roy and the Rising Volt Tacklers adventures together around the world are going to start next episode. I wished we would have seen Liko’s battle, but it makes sense that Explorer had mixed feelings about battling Sprigatito. Also I’m a fan of making the rest of the RVT Crew being bad at battling while Friede is the only good Expert battler there, but there still some chances for the rest of the crew to improve. Thankfully I’m not to Worried about these minor problems. One don’t understand about Amethio is why does he want to take Liko? He was ordered to just take the Pendant, because it’s what his leaders wants. So is he wasting his time trying to kidnap a girl who doesn’t even know much about the Pendant in the first place? Is their some he knows that he’s know that we don’t or just making more Unnecessary work for himself? I’m not sure what the Explorer’s boss wants with that Pendant, but it’s definitely not good. If Amethio brought Liko with them and the boss was Displeased then he would be in trouble we it’s his boss. One thing I hated about Team Rocket Trio was that they did get any Major consequences gor their failures with Giovanni. I have a feeling the Explorers will be different. Still Amethio is a better villain than Team Rocket! Anyway, I enjoyed episode 5 and I’m still excited to see what happens next!

I gotta say that I thought it funny that Liko thought Roy was talking about her face, but I interpret this as more of a character establishing moment rather than an actual ship, also because I don't like Roy that much. Although he doesn't feel like a carbon copy of Ash, he brings this hildish tone back to Pokémon which although I agree they would need it because a lot of kids watch it, Liko is much more well built on top of in comparison and stands out way more than Roy. Maybe I just need to get used to him, but for now, it's not really going for me.
Thank you for addressing the issue of Roy and Fuecoco being able to one shot a Rhydon with Ember. If you want to do moments like this, keep the variables consistent to what we know please. A Rhydon, who resists 4 times Ember against a Fuecoco with no proper training and an inexperienced trainer and he still loses, despite taking out the Pokémon of all the Rising Volttacklers? Would you keep things consistent, Pokémon Horizons?

Also, in my honest opinion so far, this series start is mediocre at best compared to the format of the previous story with Ash.
Hopefully, they up the quality of the action and adventure dynamics that live up to the lure of the Pokemon games.

*sigh* I was really hoping that power scaling will finally become a thing now in Pokémon franchise since Ash isn't in camera anymore. I really really hope they fix the power scaling. That's one of the big reasons why people love anime. Power scaling gives a logic of why everything is happening...but it seems it's still lacking in pokémon anime until now.

Yeah battles were a bit rushed this time around and I was disappointed that the rest of the members (that weren't Fried or Liko) couldn't manage to hold their own against their opponents. I admit that was a bit underwhelming...Same thing with the battle of Fried vs. Amethio...I mean I get why but yeah...it wasn't Journeys bad in my opinion...but underwhelming in some areas. Clif hanger was good though. I hope we can see Roy grow more into his own character and not basically be Ash 2.0. I don't hate him or nothing but find him a bit lackluster...I hope he grows on me like Go did in Journeys. It's still early so I'm withholding major judgements of his character so far. Overall solid episode, could have been a bit tighter in some spots but alright.

As much as i love liko and roy i do not ship them at all.
I see them more as a dawn ash relationship. They care for each other but not romantically, more as good friends. And i honestly don't see them going anywhere with liko and roy being a couple in the future.

I´m sorry but I don´t ship them at all. Not to mention that to call that an "Ash and Serena" moment is a huge stretch. That scene can barely be considered romantic by comparison.
By the way, despite the fact that the Rising volt tacklers were having trouble because they were tired (due to the maintainment of the ship, lack of time to feed their pokemon, etc) Conia didn´t leave because the Rising volt tacklers were losing, she left because that was part of Amethio´s plan.
The idea was to start a fight with the Rising volt tacklers to make Friede appear and knowing from which direction he appeared they would be able to tell where was Liko located because they knew that Friede was probably around her to protect her.
That´s why Conia left as soon as she saw from which direction Friede appeared, just like Amethio planned.
Liko and Roy seems has been gotten a lot of Amourshipping Fuels XDDDD

Conia's Golduck already battled the RVT's pokemon earlier, so there is that as well contributing to Liko's win

After watching Roy's official recruitment into the Tacklers being finished with Episode 6, the "rapport-ship" between the two acts less like the Ash & Serena Amourshipping-relationship, but rather more like a sibling-like relationship; in which the case would be Liko as the young-mature & slightly older-Big Sister & Roy as the youthful-energetic Little Brother
Ash and Serena was a "sibling-like" relationship too.

Liko already said that BOTH of her parents went to the Indigo Academy. While this *technically* doesn't rule out Ash, it does rule out Dawn, as she was born and raised in Sinnoh; there's no way she could attend the Indigo Academy
Additionally, we've seen Liko's grandmother's (general) appearance, and Dawn's mother in DP/BDSP doesn't resemble her whatsoever. You could make the argument that her design changed from the game's, but
A: there's no proof for that and
B: Serena's mother's design was the same, so Dawn's mother's design should be too.

Eh ... I mean, if people have fun in shipping everything that's in the general vicinity of each other, go for it I guess, but that moment was absolutely not the same. This was just a really forced misunderstanding; Serena's moment had a hundred Episodes of build up, a somewhat clever pun and led to one of the best episodes ever.
This was definitely supposed to be bait, but as with everything in the last years, they forgot how to do it properly or do not care anymore.
That aside, I actually forgot about the episode this week, which is not a good sign. I've always wanted the series to have a less episodic structure, but while they seem to do that now, they still keep the repetitive pattern. Oh no, Team Roc... I mean, the Explorers are attacking again, I wonder if they'll succeed the third time ...
Yes, there are some neat character-moments, but the overall story so far seems really aimless and dull.
And the fact that Roy keeps collecting character traits that make him more of a copy of Ash doesn't help ^^

I do agree that it's one a 100% identical to SatoSere since a lot of times those moments also contributed heavily to the story and development while also being a amount of fan service ^^ but I still didn't expect any kind of comical shipping moment at all from the series so I was genuinely surprised by it ^^
Tbh I also kinda feel a slight repetiveness from the last few eps,so I really hope we will get something more refreshing by the time we FINALLY leave the Kanto region and enter the Paldea region for the first time. I know it's not guaranteed and in the worst case paldea could be treated like Galar was during JN, but I really hooe that I'm wrong on this one.
The neat character moments really were the strongest point of this episode so it wasn't as underwhelming as last week's episode, but man... They really have to do some adjustments in regards of Roy or else he will just end up as a copy of ash with the exception that isn't even the main protagonist of the series (I mean the anime insist on this being the *Liko & Roy* Story, but we all know that Liko is the one everybody is paying attention to)

I wouldn't even say this is a problem of Kanto; this story could happen anywhere else (which makes it even worse that it doesn't happen anywhere else).
Sure, maybe after Roy joins the crew and everything is set up there'll be some changes, but it could just as well go on like this - and the fact that they're already at this state after 5 episodes is a big red flag to me.
if they wanted to achieve that, maybe they shouldn't have waited to introduce him until the fourth episode... or, you know, make him as interesting as Liko, instead of yet another happy go lucky dud ...
I like the ship but I don’t want to sail it after what they did to amourshipping. They’ll play with your feelings and then nothing happens in the end. Taking this with a grain of salt. U won’t fool me twice Pokémon 🤧
I'm interested, considering they are both main characters it's going to be ride with lots of hints that's gonna be the fun of it . I don't think we can apply the same expectation because ash was way more complicated than just ship and done ,vs liko and Roy, also I think it depends what u mean by sail

Clemont and Freid will pretend they don't know about the shipping because we all know perfectly well Clemont knew about Serena's crush on Ash because he always gives her this look every time there's an amourshipping moment. He's just great at hiding it.

sometimes I really wish pokemon battles in the anime had more subcontext to it. like it never matters what type the pokemon are or what evolution stage they are. I think thats frustrating sometimes. A Metagross could have problems with a Rhydon potentially, but it should also be able to just one-shot them. Typings only matter if the anime needs it to matter
