I'd use Boat Twist Latches. Make a French cleat (or metal equivalent - two C channels?) to hold the top end, and a rail at the bottom edge to latch to. Install marine twist latches at the bottom end of the... pendant ceiling(??). Hang it from the cleat, rotate up and twist the latches. Locking latches might feel safer, but outside of something catastrophic they're not going to move. I would suggest inspecting them once a year to be sure everything is staying solid. Rust-o-leum of course (or similar) for all the metal pieces. You'll need to clean the dust and mold out of it at least that often anyway 😛
I think instead of the soffit on the shower, I would have just added some PVC trim at the ceiling and called it good. A nice 3/4x3" square cut around the top of that tile would have hid the edge nicely, and given it a finished look without all the hassle. The new channel seems exciting, y'all! If nothing else, a 2nd can light would even out the shadows in the shower, especially when you're in there washing up! Happy birthday (s)!!!
Love your new channel! Especially the relaxed feel & behind-the-scenes stuff. 👍🏼👍🏼 FWIW, if y’all ever build one of those hanging soffits again… look into using GoBoard instead of drywall (so light & completely mold resistant), 1x4 PVC rather than wood, & hot mud rather than regular drywall mud. (All way better in wet locations & the weight will be 1/2 or less.) As for hanging it all: if it’s angled like this one, use gravity to your advantage… put 2 pieces of unistrut on the ceiling (top & bottom edges) & reverse 2 pieces on the soffit… will give you 2 channels that can slide together (from the side).
Woot woot Stud Pack 2 fast 2 furious...lol. Just a tip for any kind of twist/screw carabiner; from the climbing world we say, "Screw down so you don't screw up".
this is what i like to see. the true difficulty of trying to install items to finish the job. this is what ppl dont see, and then ask why it took so long. they never see how much effort went into completing a job.
I was thinking the same thing when I was watching. Every single project has problems and complexities. This shows the thought and behind the scenes. I like it
More personal. Very good guys. Sitcoms on T.V. do very well when they show every day common people doing everyday common things. People like to look in on the lives of other people who share the same situations in life. I think you hit on a good idea here. I will certainly keep watching. I'm already subscribed. Thanks again. Pete in Florida.
LOVING the raw footage and seeing a lot more of the personalities come out as well as the raw thought process. My wife and I have smart bulbs in our bedroom lamps. Using them in color mode messes with your mind. We have it on orange for a soft evening lighting and it makes things subtly a different color in weird ways. Like you're eating some chips in bed and the look bright orange but the rest of your food looks normal. Just make sure the bathroom LEDs are off when you're color coordinating your outfit in the mornings XD edit: also love the playful banter b/w Jordan and Paul. After watching the other video where Paul and his wife add the lights to the kitchen, it's clear to see they have a healthy marriage where they feel safe taking little jabs at each other. Nice to see Jordan grew up in a house that promotes that love and safety. "I was gonna take half the trash can" lol
Awesome video brothers!!! Congratulations on your newest venture! I love the new "behind the scenes" style...personally I like it better because it's more of what I watch your videos for. I've been in the trades since I was 12 years old and put my hands on a chrome plated circular saw and squeezed the trigger! Like you Paul, I have been fortunate enough to have taught my son and daughter what I could, both on the payroll! My son has continued and is a Journeyman Electrician, and my daughter is with the Department of Justice! I am retired now living in the Florida Panhandle, bad knees and all...bought a 60's Rambler and will ultimately reno the entire house. Definitely did not count on the knees and materials going triple gonzo in price! So, as I sit amidst the unfinished debris of my dreams, I truly appreciate your hard work, and seeing your dreams come true... Keep up the great things, stay safe and humble my brothers! Love y'all!
@@PlucharC idk how to explain this in a short comment so I recommand you go watch some video about that stuff on youtube some youtubes talks about it but Its about youtube aglorithm Basically if you always post a 1h video every 2 weeks and it gets an avrg of 500k view if you start posting "lower" perfomance video in between it can "confuse" the aglortihm and it wont recommand your videos to as many ppl so its better to have a channel for the "big" and well performing video and another one for the smaller stuff so you can try format and see how its received by your audience without "risking" your relation with the aglorihm on your main channel, I hope that helps
I would have suggested magnets to secure the free-swinging end of the soffit. Magnets mated together can be very strong and more can be added to get the strength right. That would give you the ability to easily drop the soffit for access to the ceiling.
Jordan’s insufferable, defeatist attitude makes this so much more fun than just hanging a floating soffit 😂 It would be awesome to do a project with these guys 💪🏽
Finally found it today! Fun behind the scenes, looks pretty much like a day in the life of those of us who solve problems we create ourselves. :-) I'll be watching for more fun times, lol
Hey if all else fails on that soffit, you could still do some round over (1/4 round actually) trim pieces made out of marble and just get rid of it! Would require buying a round over blade for a wet saw! I think home depot might rent one of those possibly! Or you could just buy one at harbor freight, rent a saw ,and ,run several trim pieces! Marble is soft and it wouldnt take too long! Then install them at your leisure!
Hey Jordan! Depending on your LED Driver, you can swap the driver out to at least allow you to get a controller that sets the strip to white (despite it being all three RGB on). It may looks close enough to white and with the diffuser might not look too far off from a kind of 'cool' white. Otherwise, replacing the whole strip in the future will of course be the best route to get you a nice white (make sure you look into RGBWW and RGBCW as well in case you want the cooler or warmer 'white' in there). Also, mentioning Home Assistant again as something to check into if/when you get some tinkering time! Love the shenanigans, you three seem so much like my own family I just love to see every single video pop up. Well wishes from Michigan!
Agreed, for an accent light RGB lights can be white enough. They can be any color, even warm white. They don't have good color rendering, so they arn't good for general illumination, but just as an accent color the white they produce is fine.
I like it, but when it start collecting water and the paint peels, perhaps build it out of aluminum and pvc and also add some drain holes on the lower right end for the condensation to drip out. As it stands now its looks like a wooden bowl to collect water.
There is a large volume FanTech exhaust fan inlet in the ceiling. I think Jordan bought a humidistat to control it. The fan runs until the humidity is at a set point. I'll keep an eye on it though
Wow - you guys are trustees of a special piano - and all of those banker's boxes! Thank you for being willing to care for these materials - I know its a responsibility - perhaps a burden at times. Blessings!
One of the few things that got me on this build was how heavy duty that first soffit was. I was thinking “Really?” Everything else has made perfect sense. Glad you changed it.
One trick that I use to drive eyebolts is to set a hook bolt into the drill, line the hook up into the eyebolt, and run the drill slowly, so that the hook drives the eyebolt.
You need 4 eye bolts on each side two top two bottom and slide stainless pin through to hold it. Use washers and cotter pins to keep rods from coming out eye bolts
I thought sure you were going to do some sort of cables attached to the soffit and through the ceiling into the attic and use turn buckles to tighten the cables 'till the soffit was straight. Glad you figured it out. Congrats on the new channel !!! Keep up the good work.
I would've used a modified french cleat to hold up the soffit. It would be easy to slide on and off, you only have to be accurate in one dimesion since you have wiggle room in the other, and it could still be locked in place.
Anything that gets more Studpack into my feed is a good thing :). A nice tip for eye bolts, put the handle of a ratchet in them and put a deep well socket on it to use as a handle. Works great :)
Wanted to drop by and check this out. Huge fan of the main channel. Pro tip…. Background music helps a lot even when you’re interacting. Im sure you have good reasons why there is no music in the background but the silence is very loud my friends. Thank you for all you do gang
Could use some high tensile stainless steel wire for pictures and tie an SMC knot onto the quick link and the screw eye to get the perfect drop on the soffit regardless of the small space. Knot is used all the time with arthroscopic ties eg small spaces
So glad to join you guys over here on the premier video of your 2nd channel. On moving pianos: a professional once told me they were really top heavy. I tried to relay that info to a friend who was moving. He insisted that, if we go really slow, he could stand in the back of the truck and hold it. We only had to go a few blocks. On the very first turn, the pickup truck was traveling maybe 3 mph (if that much). I was in a car behind the guy. I watched as he fruitlessly struggled to hold onto the piano as it slowly tipped out of the truck bed onto the pavement. It shattered into a gazillion pieces.
Ok now that Un's have the shower soffit up here's an idea 💡 What if you had used a 3/4" Uni-Strut with a couple of roller skates in the track, then a set screw to lock it down. Oh well I'm sure Rad will do it in his bathroom remodel next time😅
RGBW will give you a single white channel. RGBCCT will give you 2 white channels - one for warm white, and one for cool white which would let you dial in that white that you want. RGBWW will also give you a higher intensity white if both white channels are on. Then there's RGB ACL which is complete overkill, and more suitable for cinematic or photographic lighting where you get even more colors, if you really wanted to color match something.

Nice idea though to hide the awesome access panel. Add a few weep holes when you get water inside it.
