I've started many a boat engine over the years when we had family boating holidays (my first June 1972, most recent one in 2006). Having said that, this is a very informative video. Thanks for sharing.
Very impressed with how clean the engine bay is too.

Good informative video. But all boats have different engines, starters, set ups, so might be a bit misleading for some people

+Roger Dean we obviously can't show all the different engines, but this one is very typical and we think the video will help a novice understand how to start a narrowboat engine.

Hi ! I'm a newbie and have a quick question. Do you need to switch off the starter batter using the isolator key once you are moored up and using lights and appliances inside the boat ?

Hi Emanuelis, You don't need to turn off your engine isolator every time you stop for the evening.Although If you are not going to use the engine more than a day then do turn it off.

I am a little confused please help me. I see one wire in and one out of the isolators. Is that shutting off the power from the batteries to the internal power or from the generator. Sorry confused

Its isolating the batteries, therefore no power will get from the batteries to the boat.
