there is no way baby park will be in the next console mainline mario kart game, it was a retro in 2 games so they wouldn’t re-use the same track over and over again, especially considering how mid the OG track was and how bad every remake is

(And heavens knows they don't give a shit about non-GBA Bowser Castles)

Honestly, this is kind of a consistent problem with Nintendo. They quite frequently catch lightning in a bottle with certain gimmicks, but never really seem to realize why exactly people like it and when they try to implement the gimmick again they fail to implement the context that made the gimmick work in the first place which makes everything feel like a soulless cash grab (which to be frank, it likely is)
you expressed my exact feelings of this track
double dash has this thing that makes you prefer the original double dash courses over the remake ones because the remakes always takes the stuff that made certain courses charming. Like dry dry desert tornado and the freezies from sherbet land doesnt freeze you.
I actually think that baby park in deluxe with the double items does manage to have a adequate version of item chaos. But now that so many amazing tracks have been introduced ever since double dash, the novelty of it back in those days probably won't ever come back
My first exposure of Baby Park was in the MK8 DLC, and it simultaneously feels longer and shorter to do all 7 laps. I didn't find it nearly as chaotic as I heard people say it.
Credit where credit is due, MK8 Baby Park brings out the best in a lot of custom item rulesets, but yeah even that is a flawed argument
Custom item rules were released one port and 8 whole years after Baby Park, and even then Double Dash's iteration still makes 8's look babyproofed.
i think with 12 racers, the mk8 remake is more tolerable than the ds/tour remakes, as well as the fact that in mk8, the entire track is in antigravity, allowing you to spin boost off of other players
Really, this highlights the need to bring back Bowser shells and giant bananas.
I've never played Baby Park in Double Dash, so when I played this in Mario Kart 8 for the first time, I had fun but I didn't totally get the hype. I won't say I dislike it at all, but it's not at all near the top of my favorite tracks list. This is a great explanation as to why the Double Dash version of the track is still the strongest version; I'll have to actually try it sometime!
Play the Double Dash version. You'll thank me later. (Or you'll curse the name Victoria Kramkowski while getting blasted by items. Either way......)

Tours gameplay is actually the most fun I’ve had on baby park in ages! Cuz it’s got the character items from double dash +the t and rt variants make it not just AN OVAL.
I've got to be the only one who calls them the tweet and retweet variants!
And the frenzy system makes it absolutely chaotic, like a frenzy giant banana is guaranteed to cover the whole track in bananas
Racing isn't the main focus on Tour, so it shouldn't be evaluated on the same aspect as the other games. Plus, the footage seems to be taken at 50cc, which nobody uses regularly.

Double dash is the only valid version of baby park there is to date
The title might be slightly misleading, because I think everyone agrees Baby Park was only ever good in Double Dash.
The track was made with the chaos and physic of Double Dash in mind, without either of those, it all falls appart.
So yes, I do like Baby Park, in Double Dash, and I would've preferred if Nintendo left it alone going forward.

Old-school Baby Park was the best. The music perfectly captures the mix of fun and whimsy with the absolute madness and insanity that the track becomes by the 6th and 7th laps. The absolute chaos and insanity that goes so over the top it crosses the line twice is why it's one of my favorite tracks of all time. It's the only track where you can go from first place to last place and back multiple times and still win. I love surprising people who never played Double Dash with the complete chaos that is Baby Park.
Terrible map. It’s an OVAL in an amusement park. Let me drive in the park, not in a damn oval. The chaotic gimmick isn’t good either. I agree with it only working on Double Dash. 8DX version feels boring and annoying.
Baby Park kinda comes into its own in MK8DX when you choose it for a VS race with custom-picked items. I wouldn't say it's necessarily better than the original iteration, but it does win back a lot more chaos points if none of the boring items are in play.
NGL I think Baby Park would probably work better as a Battle Mode course.
The Double Dash version of Baby Park is my favorite but I like the 8 Deluxe version too. It's chaotic and enjoyable with 12 racers and anti-gravity and it's certainly 100 times better than the DS version.
As someone who has never owned Double Dash (I was a Wii and DS kid) I didn't know about the difference in the median allowing items to pass over it and even without ever playying Double Dash I can agree with your opinion that Double Dash version is best.
I still do like Baby Park on MK8/DX though...
I feel like this best describes my thoughts on baby park post double dash, I think the only other game this track could have worked was in wii, due to how chaotic the game gets normally.
MKDS was the first game I discover Baby Park and I has the idea to trow the item to the other side of the track to hit the enemies in front. A shame it isn't 7 laps. I would love more chaos from the GC. Doesn't help you didn't get the double items box, only in MK8.
In MKDS Mission mode, Baby Park is used in one of the boss level.
The funny thing about all of this to me is that the one game it could've worked in again, Wii, doesn't have it. At least Wii would help make up for the lack of special items (Assuming it keeps the same layout from Double Dash!!) with the items it did have, like the Mega Mushroom, Pow Block, and Lightning Clouds. Sure there would be more of a strategy, but it's still chaotic. It's honestly baffling just how missed of an opportunity that was. And I feel like 8's version could've been better with less walls and more common chances for bombs, stars, triple shells, and lucky 8's. They should literally throw most (Not all but most) of the balance away for that track into the dumpster, but they don't every single time for some reason. It's like they don't understand what makes Double Dash!! a good game, and sadly this goes for a lot of other GameCube era games as well like TTYD and Smash Melee. I can't be the only one who feels like Nintendo hates most of their GameCube games right? (Except Luigi's Mansion and maybe Mario Sunshine, but the latter is probably only out of obligation for it being a main 3D Mario title)

I really like the MK8 version of Baby Park, you're right it isn't the same as Double Dash because of DD's unique item mechanics but I think the zero gravity bumping mechanic, plus being 12 racers instead of 8, compensates it a decent amount to make it fun in its own way
as a Baby Park lover, i think what also fails about Baby Park in later entries is that Double Dash karts control *VERY* differently from 8's. 8's are very controllable with no issue, and are decently small, and even on 200cc they're a tad slow. meanwhile in Double Dash karts are gigantic and slippery, alongside the fact that 150cc in Double Dash just feels faster than 200cc in 8. that and also the punching mechanic made having big clunky slippery go karts all in a tight zone even more chaotic as EVERYTHING was a pure hazard, not just the items
I really hope the next mario kart game leans into baby park’s original intentions of creating chaos with items on the track

my hottest take is that i like baby park in 8dx not for the chaos, but for the technical skill it demands. Baby Park is the ultimate fundies track. It’s an oval, and it has 2 possible shroomless shortcuts each lap. You don’t win Baby Park by bagging or playing midpack, that’s just throwing your lot in with the chaos and hoping RNG goes your way. No, no, you DRIVE on Baby Park. You take those turns as tight as you can, you hop over the offroad patches as smoothly as you can, and you try to spend the whole race in miniturbos. Baby Park might be simple, might not be the most technical track or the one with the craziest advanced tech, but it is far from trivial to drive well. To be good or bad at Baby Park is to be good or bad at Mario Kart itself. It’s a NASCAR track - drive like it’s NASCAR.
I feel justified about Baby Park. I think I just don’t like it because it’s not fun to drive on.

But recently I reached the point were the ever weakening spark of excitement when it came up through random selection hascompletely slipped into disappointment.

the only time i have EVER had fun on mk8dx's baby park is when me and a few friends played it with items set to blue shells only. it compeltely fails as a regular track, but at least it's decent for silly stuff.

So here's my deal, baby park is only good depending on the game.
In double dash and 8 deluxe, there is loads of item chaos and in 8's case anti-gravity chaos, but in DS there are no fun items and Tour, you literally cant even lap anyone.
It's just a common theme that only the 5 lappers are bad and the 7 lappers are extraordinarily chaotic in the most fun ways their games offer
That being said, DS and Tour make up for it, somewhat. Goomboss is one of my favorite bosses in DS mission mode, which was very ambitious. In Tour, the T variant is super satisfying to keep a combo with the way the boomerang works

There have never been Triple Bob-Ombs. In MKDD there were single ones. In Tour they added doubles and big ones. But no triples
I may have been confusing it with the bob-omb blast game mode in Double Dash. I haven't played as Wario or Waluigi in forever but I can remember characters holding stacks of bob-ombs like that
@@SpinDash no worries. Yes, in BoB mode you could stack Bobs. Albeit not in races. Also, they ditched this feature in 8DX in favor of a balloon battle with only Bobs... now it's irrelevant since Wave 3 came out

I thought the MK8D version was one of the better iterations. Sure, there's no median nor Special Items, BUT I think the anti-gravity mechanic and the fact that there's 12 racers make up for it. You'll still be racing next to lower ranks with powerful items while bananas are littering the course, and there's a risk/reward factor in bumping into those other racers for an extra boost or falling victim to the more powerful items they're carrying.

To be honest, this course is fine when time-trialling. But when you throw other racers into the mix, that's when it becomes chaos - you're NEVER going to race this course without being absolutely destroyed, no matter how good you are at the track.
Why would you want to have a good, clean race on Baby Park?

I've played every version of Baby Park, except the original since I sadly still haven't got do play DD!!, but I think Tour makes a pretty good job at it because the Giant Banana, Bowser Shell, Yoshi/Birdo Eggs and Double/Triple Bombs are back (and the Fire Flower is more similar to DD!! than to 7/8). It might be the most fun I've had playing this track tbh (and I never played it in 200cc since I don't have a gold pass subscription!). 8 and especially 8D are ok but I think they lack the special items, 200cc and anti gravity give a plus to this track tho. Overall I think the worst one is DS bc there's nothing helping it. I'd love to play DD!! as a whole one day and experience this track... anyways sorry for this long rambling and Tour defense lol

I would actually like to say I disagree, while DS remake of Baby Park is garbage, the 8 and even better 8DX version manage to keep the chaos going by not only having more racers but also making the track anti-gravity to encourage you to run in to anyone you see aand I'm alsos not 100% on this but the track also feels smaller in 8DX which makes the chaos all the more... chaotic (and in 8DX the double items make it even better) while I'm not a fan of the track I think its unfair to say 8 didn't do the track right when it did

I like it and hate it at the same time though even though DS only has 5 lap due to hardware limitations but still find it a little annoying in MKDS with the reds and dispute the physics of DS being Almost identical to Double dash but better in a way I still like and hate baby park and cookie land in MKW that always reminds of GCN Baby park pure Chaotic track but an mini version of the basically.

Baby Park is a goofy ahh track, and not in a good way. First of all, the music is the most annoying piece of dog shit I ever had to listen too. Having three little brothers that all listened to those baby music, no offense to it, but it drives me crazy. And the Baby Park music literally sounds like it's mocking you. Also, the track is literally themed around babies! That's the most boring shit ever, next to generic circuit tracks. Then we have the layout. A generic shape. Wow, so creative. At least Excite bike had plenty of trick opportunities.
And then you have the tracks gimmick, which is literally creating chaos with items! This is not fun, this is frustrating.
So you got a boring and uninspired track layout with an insulting theme, while the most obnoxious piece of music, if you can even call it that, and a gimmick that is literally just having a headache.
And then you got the Baby Park fans that insist it's the best thing to ever happen to the Mario Kart franchise, while trashtalking Wii Bowsers Castle, saying the track is generic and boring, and, even worse, the music being uninspired, while not realizing it's a slowed down, off-key version of Maple Treeway, implying Bowser burned that track to ashes and building his castle on it's remains. See THIS is good track design, where every aspect of the track tells a story and it goes so well together perfectly, not that clusterfuck of madness and chaos that is Baby Park
I can never understand the people who like baby park. What even is there to like about it? Almost every part of the course has been designed to either anger, bore, or drive you to insanity. The only version of Baby Park that is passable in my eyes is the DS version. Because I’m not annoyed anymore, I’m just bored.
