The Best of Fyre Festival

  • The best moments from the Netflix, Hulu, CNBC and ABC documentaries. Billy McFarland recently got released from prison, will we see him make a comeback like the other convicted influencers? Also snuck in references from pop culture such as video games and TV moments. Inspired by the novel "Hype: Inside the Fyre Festival and the Golden Age of Grift" by Gabrielle Bluestone; highly recommended if you're interested in this topic!

Ja Rule says Fyre solves this problem by giving artists a legitimate platform to book engagements... but clearly Ja Rule had an agent, a website, and an official email account for business requests (monitored by his representing agency), and all the other existing systems by which we expect to legitimately interface with artists. The fact that no one questioned this is beyond stupid.

All they had to do was not piss off the original venue owner with the escobar marketing and charge higher prices to the guests (who could definitely afford it) and no one would have had to get screwed over here. @danielleking262 excellent question! For their original vision, about 18-24 months preparation, preferably more. Budget would depend on the scope/how many people, reports say there was 500... approx $2.5 million (plus at least $1-2 million in ad/promo). They could have raised a good $2 million or more with an aggressive pitch deck for sponsors & time to find them (with a great sales team). Tickets should have been at least $1-2K plus the VIP packages.
But, every event producer that told them it was not enough time to plan this was fired & they brought in someone who said it could be done, who then would realize it wasn't possible & get fired.

A private 3 or even 1 star chef cooking for 500 ppl? That can only ever be catering, even if top level, but catering, unless you hire 500 chefs. And say you get 50 villas, which is immense, because you know, you need 50 empty villas, and a private chef that can cover these first class, and you sell, I mean actually find 50+ buyers to pay a 250.000 ticket, you made 12.5 million. But these Villas will likely need to be built, the chefs hired, the food brought, and kept fresh, kitchen staff, waiters, everything included. Then you are left with 450 customers you need to put in "luxury tents". How much was a ticket at times? 250 bucks? And some maybe 2500. say the 2.5k tickets get you a luxury tent, and the 250 bucks tickets get you a "normal tent". Say you sell all 450 remaining seats for 2.5k. So now you made another 1.2 Million. Say somewhere in between you managed to sell some tickets for 10k, some for 50k even, and made another half of million off of that, or let us be generous and round everything up: you made a total of 14.5 Million. That is pretty much half of what he spent and still didnt put up a festival with it. 450 luxury tents need 900 couches, beds, sofa chairs, tables, ofc luxurious ones, carpets, wooden terraces, toilet equipment, yada yada yada... Oh, and ofc you promised to fly everyone there in a private jet, and you need jetskies and boats, and golf carts to drive ppl around, bars, vendors, etc etc, all built from scratch, because remote islands sounds so romantic to you. You haven't built a stage yet, and you haven't brought in and paid artists yet, and also havent paid anyone yet to tear it all down again, because no, it does not compute, you will make a loss, and you will not be back next year, even if you manage to pull it off brilliantly. The moment you confined yourself on a small remote island, capping your visitor numbers, by flying dudes around in private jets and setting them up in anything but "bring your own fucking tent, here is a meadow and dixie toilets and here you can buy burgers from a dude to whom I rented out 4 square meters of earth I rented from someone else", you shot yourself in the foot and doomed this idiotic dream to be just that: an idiotic dream. If you wanna do something like that, make a private party at a venue (hotel, resort) that is already in place, tone down the everything around it, make it exclusive, have the venue handle catering, etc, have a decent line up, and you may get off square. Better even, rent lots and lots and lots of meadows in a place somewhere smack middle of nowhere in some giant ass landscape, and invite 50k folks who buy a ticket for 100 bucks, and you won like the other festivals with a much more minimal effort. May not be special, but at least you will have a festival. Influenza pipe dream for influenza ppl.
