Things we own? Small stuff that can be carried. Beware of any moment government arrives to what is your property with a plan for systematic registration. A registry of any design, quality or terminology is a loss of control which means what you used to own becomes a privilege - whatever it may be applied to. And about the money... what, on net, has a bigger yield per acre: an acre of wheat or an acre of suburbia with six houses on it? McDonald's and other US owned companies that operate in other countries have to abide by those countries laws, they can't get away with those scams in Canada or Germany. McDonalds is firmly against unions but every other country allows unionization or work councils as they have in Germany, the Japanese Trade Union Confederation and Australia's Retail and Fast Food Workers Union sued McD's Chicago HQ for unpaid employee benefits and overtime, that included PT employess as well, they won. Not only that, McD employees in other countries get better starting & PT wages as well as benefits like paid vacations, overtime bonuses and sick days as well as paid maternity and paternity leave, none of that is given to McD employees in the USA. The USA gives all the legal power to the companies, they can get away with pretty much anything as long as they contributed to campaigns on both sides, while employees are treated like slave labour and customers are nothing but marks for con-men selling snake oil.
It's pretty obvious to most of us that the grand prizes are limited by a scarce single piece, but not everyone. I remember people posting personal ads in the newspaper (early 1980s, way before the internet) that they had all the pieces except one, and were willing to split the jackpot with anyone who had that piece. Made me laugh.
The title is clickbait and borderline slanderous. The prizes were legit, they were stolen by an ex-cop who worked at the company that was supposed to provide security. Maybe change your name to @ssMcJumpsToConclusions
Wouldn't do any good, all they have to say is they didn't want to correct the person in the interview for naming the wrong place or they were mistaken. It was years later
In high school I went to get a drink from McDonalds with my friends. We all go the game pieces and no one really got much, one a free small drink and another a free cheeseburger. I peeled mine back and I found I won $500. I wasn't trying to win anything but $500 for a senior about to graduate high school and head off to college, it helped me get stuff for my university apartment. I haven't won anything since at all.
Come to think of it...I think I did win like 20 pounds when I lived in the UK. But even the small cash prizes were vanishingly rare and they didn't actually print the winning pieces for the big prizes. Mostly just won free food. And that's a cheap loss leader. It is sort of the perfect scam because you give away a lot of free food, an occasional small cash prize and then when nobody wins the big prize, you have the plausible deniability that someone simply carelessly discarded the one golden ticket.
that's indeed how most such sweepstakes work. They then hire actors to "win" the non-existent grand prizes in front of cameras. More than a few such things have also been exposed, not sure if any of them ever made the internet, several of them made the national press here in the 1980s and early 1990s. And I much suspect many if not most lotteries work the same way (our national lottery here for example got a massive bloody nose when someone mistakenly published the winning numbers of the supposed "live TV drawing" 2 days before the broadcast.
Apparently, that was just a rumor. If they (FBI) could prove they never made corresponding winning tickets on purpose, then McDonalds would have been Closed Forever due to deceptive practices and fraud. Clearly that's not the case and if you think about it, even giving away a couple Million dollars is chump change for McD's considering how much they make on selling their terrible food worldwide and these promos boost sales for the month.
Once upon a time I lived in Oklahoma....there was a running joke " Baptists will always recognize each other, except in the Strip Club and the Liquor Store!"
That's its own scam, and there's a video on youtube about it. Basically, it's a racket to shuffle money to private contractors who are the only ones allowed to service the machines.
The ice cream machines work in the McDs for my country, I never understood why in the country of origin it is so normal for McDs to not have a working machine.
The people printing the tickets and their staff were the ones rigging it each and every time there is a mcdonalds monopoly game not just these early scandals. Every single time. No matter who is running it, it is always too easy for employees to steal the high value tickets and give them to friends and they always do it.
Rigged is a strong word for something that everyone already knew how it worked. That certain pieces of the board were in different parts of the country. You were never going to find Boardwalk and Park Place in the same state. If you found one of those, you had to find someone else that had the other and share the winnings. There were several winners of the smaller cash prizes however.
@@alexubel That's not how they were set up. For each prize requiring a set, one of the set had a limited number of pieces printed. The others in the set would be relatively common.
@@pvondrak Yeah that was also part of it, but you would never find a complete set of the bigger prizes in the same state. They were distributed in a way to prevent that.
McDonald’s food also has gotten worse and worse over the years. My friend group calls it, “instant regret”. You instantly regret eating once you’re done and feel physically horrible.

I can’t believe all the money people were spending on this game every year, and McDonalds was careless enough to let the mafia high jack it. No one was ever compensated. My parents probably spent thousands of dollars over the years when this game was on. I love how we all got scammed and McDonalds just moves on with their lives.
While I also spent a lot of money on mcdonalds. They don't owe us anything. It's like expecting Las Vegas casinos to give everyone money that was lost.

its like "omg guys....canada litterally couldnt win?" and we're surposed to toss tomatos at the guy giving it to struggling parents and childeren hospitals?

Video game magazines, in the 90's, ran ads to 'solve this crossword, send it in with five dollars, win this tv, stereo, and game consoles!' At ten it seemed too good to be true and many times aince I've encountered "prize opportunities" that gave me the same feeling...
the biggest part of the scam was because they make sure the pieces go to different places so you cannot match what you need unless you start going to different mcdonalds across the country at least that is the case here in canada. the problem with this contest is that mcdonalds knows where the pieces are sent so they can rig the system so no one can win. which is why it was such a big thing that this scheme went on and mcdonalds lost a lot of money. but atleast stjudes got to keep their big prizes.

I figured there was no boardwalk, but that all the other items were real. To me getting the free food pieces was worth it since i wanted to eat there anyway (at the time).
it wasn't just that there was just one ticket in the biginning but also later on when they went and put out multiple of each piece they rigged the system so that you would have to travel across the country as certain pieces went to certain places and no one could claim the big prizes unless they traveled and stopped in different states. its the same here where i live in canada we would litterally have to travel from coast to coast stopping at multiple mcdonalds in each province here just to collect all the various pieces to win a decent prize.
I used to play that when they would play the promotion. I was in elementary school when it started in 1989, in middle school, me and my friends would combine all our free food pieces and walk there and we'd chow down.
The only problem is that (1) Jerry #1 obviously wasn't very smart and (2) there had to be someone higher up the chain. He wasn't printing game pieces in his garage.
I don't know what the heck this video is talking about, but this is what happened. Jerome P. Jacobson who was in charge of carrying the winning stickers would cut the seal of the case, take the stickers and replace them with non winning stickers, and replace the seal. He then sold the winning stickers to people near his residence for $45,000 dollars each. He was eventually caught because the FBI noticed a pattern of the big prizes being won in the same general location, within Georgia.

Sad - it took until mid 2024 for some people finding out that all this gambling, lotteries, giveaways, etc. going on for half a century now is all fraud scam and an outright LIE. Did you really think any of these things are real: "And another happy winner from Spain is now 50 Million € richer!" down to smaller giveaways like RUclipsrs "Giving away another 5000$ gaming computer, or a 3000$ graphics card, all you have to do is SUBSCRIBE to win!" All of this is an outright lie. NO ONE ever won this money all these millions these cars and computers and houses or any of this giveaway and lottery stuff since decades. Or course at the end of smaller private giveaways a charade is filmed seeing the RUclipsr giving the computer or the graphics card or whatever to "a happy, fully random selected lucky winner!" (who is in truth his pal or his brother acting for the camera, but that computer never really left the RUclipsrs home.) The same happens on the grand scale too, sometimes paid actors related to the organizer and host of a giveaway drive away with their big prize the Lamborghini just to drive around the block and after sunset back into the car saloon again - in secret through the garage back door. It is necessary to sometimes present paid actors acting like they won something big in public to keep all the sheeple motivated: "Oh look at this happy winner! I should invest even more money in gambling because that multiplies my luck and one day I will be this lucky person behind the sports car steering wheel or with a bank account having six figures!" Well this will never happen, because every gamble is a scam, and if some "lucky winner" is rarely presented to the public he or she is nothing but a paid actor directly related to the host of the lottery. Think about these words before throwing away the next 5 or 10 bucks for lottery tickets: No one ever wins anything, all of this is a big-scale scam and outright lie! Buy something nice for yourself instead ;)

Thats most likely $500 more than the millions of other customers ever won

I thought they canceled it because they never printed the stickers for grand prize winners. Was all a big scam to buy more McDonald's.
So thats where they all went, this guy. huh. learn something new every day.
that's indeed how most such sweepstakes work.
There’s a whole series about this that came out about three years ago.

I knew it! I remember arguing with my peers during those McDonald's monopoly years that it was rigged. I was right all along
The people printing the tickets and their staff were the ones rigging it each and every time there is a mcdonalds monopoly game not just these early scandals. Every single time. No matter who is running it, it is always too easy for employees to steal the high value tickets and give them to friends and they always do it.
I wish u were in my friends circle lol so we can talk about rigged and sh*t lol
Rigged is a strong word for something that everyone already knew how it worked. That certain pieces of the board were in different parts of the country. You were never going to find Boardwalk and Park Place in the same state. If you found one of those, you had to find someone else that had the other and share the winnings. There were several winners of the smaller cash prizes however.
@@alexubel That's not how they were set up. For each prize requiring a set, one of the set had a limited number of pieces printed. The others in the set would be relatively common.

nah, it's not. you're wrong.
the biggest part of the scam was because they make sure the pieces go to different places so you cannot match what you need unless you start going to different mcdonalds across the country at least that is the case here in canada. the problem with this contest is that mcdonalds knows where the pieces are sent so they can rig the system so no one can win. which is why it was such a big thing that this scheme went on and mcdonalds lost a lot of money. but atleast stjudes got to keep their big prizes.

it wasn't just that there was just one ticket in the biginning but also later on when they went and put out multiple of each piece they rigged the system so that you would have to travel across the country as certain pieces went to certain places and no one could claim the big prizes unless they traveled and stopped in different states. its the same here where i live in canada we would litterally have to travel from coast to coast stopping at multiple mcdonalds in each province here just to collect all the various pieces to win a decent prize.

Plenty of free food though. that's what most of us played for.

Those parallels with other movies are insane! Really well made and a lot of cinema knowledge on standby so to see. Enjoyed it a lot, thanks!
The Lotterie is so rigged there's no words to describe.
When a terrible restaurant and a terrible game join forces
I always hated playing Monopoly. Once someone got Park Place and Boardwalk it was just a slow decline into bankruptcy for everyone else.
I am at a loss for words. This was about the *_lowest_* McDonald’s has ever done. Scammed. Deceived. Misled! And that’s what happened to me over the years playing that game whilst ordering my food.
We were all the fools.
Sad - it took until mid 2024 for some people finding out that all this gambling, lotteries, giveaways, etc. going on for half a century now is all fraud scam and an outright LIE. Did you really think any of these things are real: "And another happy winner from Spain is now 50 Million € richer!" down to smaller giveaways like RUclipsrs "Giving away another 5000$ gaming computer, or a 3000$ graphics card, all you have to do is SUBSCRIBE to win!"
All of this is an outright lie.
NO ONE ever won this money all these millions these cars and computers and houses or any of this giveaway and lottery stuff since decades.
Or course at the end of smaller private giveaways a charade is filmed seeing the RUclipsr giving the computer or the graphics card or whatever to "a happy, fully random selected lucky winner!" (who is in truth his pal or his brother acting for the camera, but that computer never really left the RUclipsrs home.)
The same happens on the grand scale too, sometimes paid actors related to the organizer and host of a giveaway drive away with their big prize the Lamborghini just to drive around the block and after sunset back into the car saloon again - in secret through the garage back door.
It is necessary to sometimes present paid actors acting like they won something big in public to keep all the sheeple motivated: "Oh look at this happy winner! I should invest even more money in gambling because that multiplies my luck and one day I will be this lucky person behind the sports car steering wheel or with a bank account having six figures!"
Well this will never happen, because every gamble is a scam, and if some "lucky winner" is rarely presented to the public he or she is nothing but a paid actor directly related to the host of the lottery.
Think about these words before throwing away the next 5 or 10 bucks for lottery tickets: No one ever wins anything, all of this is a big-scale scam and outright lie! Buy something nice for yourself instead ;)
I remember as a teen dumpster diving at McDonalds for that million dollar ticket. All I found was a foul odor.
The irony of having serial fraud and liar Brian Williams sprinkled throughout this video is as delicious and refreshing as a Shamrock Shake.
my dad once told me he pulled the 1 million dollar tab and thought it was “too good to be true”, now that I’m older I thought I’d take a look and research this, he later threw it into the garbage there. Now that I think back on this, I would’ve never been born probably if he cashed that in back in the day, he got it either in the state of New York or New Jersey I think. It’s crazy to think about I want this message to be known.
This story has so much potential. All of it ruined by poor writing and the injection of a bunch of random, unrelated movie clips.
ridiculous levels of incompatance by McDonalds and the company handling the prizes. There's a reason you spread out the responsibilities to many people for this sort of thing, so that there is checks and balances. McDonalds should have been sued for millions over this. And the sad part was, I loved it when McDonalds used to do this competition, now they don't run it at all in the US (though they do seem to run it in other countries still).
Mcdonalds trusted people to do the job, they got robbed too.
I am not sure that the yare allowed to run it in the states anymore but they seem to be able to run it in canada and the bigger prizes seem to be missing and less over all prizes and food wins. some of the so called prizes here in canada they call getting a discount on some headphones or earbuts from some online company a prize. so this is one of the scams they are running in other countries to get people to buy more mcdonalds. plus they put it online and have draws with companies where you can get a shopping spree so they can say you won something while it costs them less as those other companies pay for the prize that is offered. but it is doubtfull anyone wins any of those either.
