    Brann Dailor says of this track; "This is another one I wrote back when I was in this one apartment of mine. I call it the Sadness Hole. I don’t want to get into why I was there, but just to be clear, I wasn’t strung out on drugs or anything like that. It was a personal time. But the last riff really sounded like the end of something. It’s sad-sounding, but there’s also some hope there. So we put some string arrangements on it and Brent did this really beautiful guitar solo. The last line is for Nick John (their longtime manager who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer a few years back): ‘The mountains we made in the distance will be with us forever.’ I think it’s a beautiful farewell".

    This is the one I keep repeating so far. It's like... probably one of the most bittersweet and uplifting heavy songs I've ever heard. It's alot of uncharted terrain for Mastodon. The only past song of theirs that this reminds me of is, oddly enough, Creature Lives, more so in the front half. The back half, however, sounded like a perfect marriage of Queens of the Stone Age and Alice in Chains. Shit, it even has vibes of Radiohead and U2. They somehow infused 90s alt rock goodness into this masterpiece. The 90s being a decade I clearly remember, having been born in the 80s. (1984)
    It's like all the grief, sadness, depression, anxiety and heavy-heartedness of the journey got to the end and there was a silver lining or a ray of light poked through the clouds. Then it all just kinda breaks open and the sun is there shining, as it always is...even when it's obscured by the storms and the clouds. Ugh. I hate writing stuff this heartfelt on the internet but this is as good a time as any. 🖤

    This has been my 6 year old son’s favorite song ever since I let him listen to it for the first time when he was 4. He calls it “Stronger” and always asks me to play it when we’re in the car. Little dude rocks out to it and sings every word.

  • @Aerythraea
    @Aerythraea Год назад +15

    “My love, so strong”
    It’s such a simple line but it’s so powerful. The guitars are grieving in the only way they know how. Despite the drum’s tempo tapering off, each note kicks harder. As if I wasn’t crying already, the lyrics decide to make it so much worse. I can FEEL the emotion pouring out of every word.
    So direct, because there’s no other way you could say it. So powerful because it says all the things you wanted to. “I miss you” “It hurts that I’ll never see you again” “I wish I could tell you all of this again” “It hurts that I can’t”
    And then after everything’s been said, the guitar solo sings to you in a way that words could never. I don’t know how someone can make an instrument tear up, but the melody holds no punches as if you're the only one that can hear, the tune wells up with sorrow, and the guitar is barely keeping it together, but can’t afford leave things unfinished.
    This song is very special to me.

    Al ser un doble álbum he esperado hasta que he podido para sentarme a oscuras en mi casa, ponerme los auriculares buenos y dedicarle el tiempo que se merece y acabo de terminarlo.
    Estoy flipando, qué puto disco, qué maravilla! Me siento tan jodidamente orgulloso de ser coetáneo de esta banda, de ser fan total, de ver su evolución, que me caen hasta de puta madre los 4 tíos, 4 genios hacedme caso.
    Únicos.

      Es buenísimo, de 15 canciones no sobra ni una. Y me encanta que Brann Dailor cante tanto en este disco, su voz transmite muchísimo. Hay que disfrutar a esta banda hasta la última nota que toquen

    What an album… Any album that ends like this, you just know it was good. You don’t even have to listen to the rest of it to know. The song right before it is ain’t half bad either, damn… The album gets better every time I listen. At first I though it was too long, now I can’t get enough. What a band. Not a single bad album. Not even a single good album. They’re all GREAT! Love it.

    I grew up with some angry music and it helped get me through things. Nothing really changed though. People still want to fight. It’s exhausting. Thank you for this entire album. A guy like me needed it. ❤️

    holy hell batman, this album is a classic right here in front of us in real time. Let us soak it in and know we are on the first part of this albums journey. Its already now one of my 9 yr old sons favorite albums. I hope he carries this with him for a long long time. Carry the torch forward. Wow what a nice full album journey to allow me to disconnect from work and simply spend time racking and smiling with my boy louder with every couple songs. Perfect!
