This album, and this song especially, brings so much force with it. It gives me goosebumps. I went and listened to Blood and Thunder, and it was like seeing someone grow from youth into maturity.
      Just that first chorus break
      - WITHOUT A HEARTBEAT, THE DREAM IS DEAD

To state this song is a "power ballad" is the understatement of a lifetime. This is that song for the one person...that soulmate that you never ended up with...that haunts your every breathing moment...that you long for in your dreams, but know you have to let go. The opening notes tear at your heart. The lyrics crush every fiber of your being. In the 49 years I have been alive, not once, has a song ever literally tore me apart to the deepest recesses of my core...and healed the same core of a longing never to be realized.

Less and less of my own
    If I burn the bridges
    Leaving the ash behind
There's no choice but to move on
Within a heartbeat the dream is dead
All that I have sacrificed is leaving me and letting go now
I don't want to leave you here alone among the wind and weeping
    Circles I've broken
    Once, they seemed so clear
    Leaving the past I buried
    Deep in yesteryear
    This will bring back memories
    That I don't want anymore
    Always see reminders
And now I close the door
The illusion's gone, the end is here
All that I have sacrificed is leaving me and letting go now

If I could crawl beneath the earth and settle with the worms and dirt
I'd steal the eyes of serpents soothing powers from the deep blue sea

If I could crawl beneath the earth and settle with the worms and dirt

I'm having a hard time interpreting the line "I'd steal the eyes of serpents soothing powers from the deep blue sea". I don't quite get the metaphor. Any help?

@@johannklein474 I think this may be references to their elemental albums here. “Wind & weeping” (CTS or H&G), “crawl beneath the earth” (BM), “serpents powers from the deep blue sea” (Leviathan)?

You're the Green Boots of bands - always at or near the top of the mountain. This has already become a favorite. It's too good for radio, but it feels like it should be a radio classic.
