PERGEAR CF EXPRESS A - Worth the Risk?

- CF express type A cards are extremely expensive which is why I avoided them and stuck to V90 SD. Although CF express cards are much better it was hard to justify the cost as a freelance shooter.
Thankfully Pergear have stepped up and given us an affordable option,,,but is it any good?
PERGEAR CF EXPRESS A - Worth the Risk?
I wasn't paid to promote this card or any other products I review. If there is any paid collabs I will state this clearly in the video.

Thanks for such a straightforward and honest review. Thinking of getting some of these cards and your review helped make my mind up to buy. Cheers.
Awesome man, glad it was helpful. Just for the record I'm still using the same 2 cards in this video and they're still going great.
Thanks again
That’s good to hear you still happy with them. Ordered 2 x 260’s. 👍
Thanks for such an honest review which has given me the faith to get a few pairs for my Sony cameras.
@@alanforde744 nice one and thank you. I'm still using them till this day and my friend has some too.
I just saw these existed the other day AFTER I bought some ProGrade cards, but I think I'm going to buy 2 of these. I bought 240GB ProGrade ones, but I'm really eyeing the 512GB Pergear cards.
I started using these cards in my FX 30 a month ago with zero problems - they are cheaper than comparably sized SD cards - and of course faster!
Glad to hear they're working for you too.
Are cards still working OK with your FX30? I'm looking to buy 2 for simultaneous rec. in FX30 to trie to fix an issue - I have 2 Sandisk SD PRO v30, sometimes one of them skips recording clip, and only have recording on second, so I'm thinking it could be how fast they finished recording after turning it off, maybe has to do how fast I press REC again. V30 still good enough for 100Mbit though (that's only 12,5MB/s).
Bought them too. Also the card reader. And works flawless in my Sony a7IV
They are amazing right 👌🏾 still going strong for me too....not one single issue.
Reliable for me! Rock solid on FX6 and A7Siii
Good to hear. Mine are still going strong....not one single hiccup 🤞🏾
Thank you for this review..just bought one.. I’ll post my opinion in a month
Did you have the chance to review it yet. I'm considering getting one for my A7iv
@@OllieHstock 2 months later and the PERGEAR card is still working without any issues. I definitely recommend this product. I will be getting at least 2 more
@@redkinthaancientmusik2481 great, thanks for the info.
Your a valid source that test these products and we can see your sincere in your direction for us all to make the smartest choice, have a blessed day sir
Thank you brother, really appreciate your kind words. 💯 Sincere in these reviews. Blessings 🙏🏾
I've avoided buying a CF-A card for years (I've had the a7SIII since 2021) because they've just been so expensive and there's only, like, one codec and framerate that requires it anyway. I've been thinking about getting one more recently because of the addition of 4KDCI 48fps S&Q in the FX30 which requires a CF-A card. These Pergear cards have finally provided a reasonable option in terms of price. Glad to hear that they've been reliable for you and hopefully it means the prices will come down for all the cards
Absolutely. You have to buy the camera, the lens and then find out you have to spend hundreds just to record something is crazy. I'm like you and would have stuck to v90 all the way if these didn't come out
Cracking review thanks for posting, I have one of these in my shopping trolley on Amazon for a week trying to make my mind up whether to take the chance , you have help thanks again
Hi, thank you for commenting. Yeah it's a bit daunting with memory because it's very important. I used to work in electronics and I always test things extensively.
You really have to push them the first few weeks, really over use them because you need the electronics, soldering etc to settle down and hope they reveal any potential faults but I'm glad to say it working great and I even edit from them too.
thank you for a STRAIGHT FORWARD presentation without the drivel that's taking over the internet.
Thank you. I do drivel sometimes 😅 but mostly I like to get to the point.
Today it doesn't mean that something is cheap or affordable, that it is worse. But you should definitely test it. I bought my daughter a new smartphone last week and it cost 175 euros. Couple of years ago you only got a potatoe phone for this price but I must say I'm quiet jealous of her now😅. I once had a transcent card once which died. That was hard.
That's very true. In terms of things like chips & manufacturing a lot of this stuff comes from the same plants. I don't know what Pergear did to reduce costs but it seems good.
Smartphones are a good example of how affordable tech has gotten a lot better 👍🏾😰
I'd rather pay a bit more and not risk my work. It's only Sony cards for me.
I understand
i just bought one yesterday. So. lets see, thanks for the review :)
Awesome. I'm sure you'll like it.
just bought 2 of them on amazon prime day :D
Good price? I need a couple more but haven't checked prime recently. I'll look now
Nice review Colin. You are always honest 😃
Thank you. Yeah all about honesty #1 priority.
Learned something again sir thank u
Thank you 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Awesome info! Is there a UK seller or did you order from their main store?
Thank you. I ordered mine from Amazon UK but I think it was sent from abroad.
How many hours does that 260 gig card give you in your FX30 at the highest quality?
About 130mins. The easiest way to calculate is by doing the math on cards that you have ie, if you have a 128gb card just double it for a rough estimate.
@@Altcine Much appreciated
do they work with the canonj eos m? which sd cards would you recomend for crop mood?? thank you!!
Hi, no...only SD cards for Eos-M. Stick with SanDisk Extreme pro. There are others but SanDisk is preferred
what card reader you use? my 80GB the read speed is around 90-160Mb/s ,crazy
I use the Pergear card reader that's in this video connected via usb-c directly into my Mac mini. What are you using?
@@Altcine same😩
@@Shadow_Li that's strange! Looks like you'll have to do so troubleshooting before you get a replacement.
Hi have you experienced any heat with this CF card ?
Yes it gets a little hot when in constant use but not much more than my v90 cards which also get hot.
Hey man, I tried to use your discount code but it didnt work. 😑
Ahhh damn! Maybe the code has ended 😞
Well, not worth when I read the product comments in Amazon.
Too many people there telling from lost data with this card.
I don't risk my work because of 100 bucks, after buying my Sony Alpha equipment.
Really? I'm still using both of mine and not one single issue.
73% 5*
6% 1*
And 2,3,4 Make up the rest. I'd hardly call that tons.
@@Altcine No one said tons. ☝️😉
Read the comments. There are more than 2-3.
Nevertheless, if it only would be one, don’t wanna be the one who got hit 🙂
I switched from Nikon to Sony a few days ago. So, anyway… spend more money than for my last car 😂
When I can save money, I love it.
But if it’s „only“ 100 or 150 bucks for a card… I choose the safest possible way.
I took the Sony a7 IV.
Slot one is now the Sony CFexpress.
Slot two a V90 (300mb/s) SanDisk.
I can do more than 90% of my work on V90 SD. So I‘m fine with this solution. 🙂
@@francoforte4788 you did say "too many" so that implied there was a lot of failures 😅
I understand though, nobody wants corrupted cards after a shoot but I've had SanDisk extreme pro and Kingston fail on me. Also in the video I put an example of Sony tough cards failing too.
It doesn't matter the brand, it can still happen. I was using 2 FX6's and and FX3 and these gave me zero issues and I still use them in FX3.
@@Altcine Every electronic device will die one day. Electronic parts are aging too.
So you never get 100% safety anyway. 🙂
I try to keep the danger of failure as low as possible.
The number of card failures of the Sony is zero, at Amazon.
As told, I'm fine with one CFexpress. So it doesn't make a real difference after buying cam, 2 lenses, rig, handles and so on 😂
But I can understand, if someone needs a higher number of cards, when he takes the cheap ones.
I went the other way and bought the Atomos Ninja V, I found to be cheaper in the long run buying ssd drives which cost much cheaper, Samsung 2TB ssd costs about $200 AUD, Pergear CF express 260GB costs $350 AUD.
Jeeeze! Australia is so expensive man
@@Altcine tell me about it, the dollar here sucks hard against UK, EURO and USA.
