He stole every scene he was in across the Hunger Games Trilogy. And the laugh that he gave right before president Snow died sent a shiver down my spine. Extraordinary actor.
Hey you Don fans, can you help me remember the title of a film (or TV show) he was in some years ago which was filmed in Rio de Janeiro? (or a studio set made to look like Rio). In it he was chummy with a prostitute but when she was murdered I think they tried to pin it on him?
Can't believe I'm the first one here to say this, but... RIP Donald Sutherland. Your role in Hunger Games was my first introduction to you as an actor and it was also the last. I hope you rest in peace.
Curiously overlooked for awards during his career. Should have been nominated at some point for his portrayal of President Snow in Hunger Games. Loved him in MASH. Was brilliant in an understated role in Klute which allowed Jane Fonda to emerge. Was excellent in Ordinary People. Lawrence nailed it. Always competent, helpful and professional. He certainly deserved his Oscar at long last.
Although he never won an Oscar in my opinion he has always been a great and funny actor, any movie I come across with Donald Sutherland I immediately clicked on it. He is now in heaven with all those who left before him and I am sure that they are having a swell time.
To all you idiots out there who keep hating on Jennifer, don't click the damn video if you hate her so much, don't comment on it, just ignore it and move on with your life. There are way worse things happening in the world to complain about than an actress who's just being kind to her costar. Have some decency and leave. Don't try to bring others down by being a hater.
0:42 He's not only never won -- he's never even been nominated for a competitive Oscar. One of the biggest snubs of all time (rivals Edward G. Robinson on that scale)
Yes he stole every scene he was in from very early on in his career, the few minutes he had in Oliver Stone's JFK are unforgettable. Great voice, so charismatic, amazing depth of acting, very powerful even in the small subtle gestures he chooses to make in a scene!! underrated actor.
I like both Donald surthlern and Jennifer Lawrence i love the hunger games books and movies and the other work they did donald shoud have been nominated for an oscar for don't look now its one of his best work i like jennifer's outtfit jennifer is right donald shoud be sir donald surthlern
I have nothing against Jennifer Lawrence; she's a fine actress, and here she speaks quite eloquently about how much she learned from working with Sutherland, and about his career. But...Sutherland was 82 here, getting an honorary Oscar after five DECADES of being snubbed, and he's introduced by someone who won at 20! It just really seems to drive home how egregious it is that he's gone this long without recognition.
Strategically it was very smart of the Academy to have a young & popular actor honor an esteemed veteran. Bridging a gap between generations & serving to expand young moviegoers’ appreciation of actors who are older than them. In this case, significantly older. Donald became more relevant & interesting to them here. Jennifer’s speech felt honest & heartfelt.
Wonderful speech even if ti was a bit read. I saw the first Hunger Games, and I thought no one but Sutherland could have pulled off a character like President Snow. Sutherland played him not as some kind of lunatic (which he was) but with a subtlety and understated nuance. Most actors would have just gone over the top. Sutherland brings out the little foibles and details.
Donald Sutherland is a actor that blows the scale away and it’s a shame not just a insult butt how can give a man like him a award for best actor when he is better then the best actors like Meryl Streep in a dictionary as greats actors so would Donald Sutherland and a very few more Liz Taylor Marilyn Monroe Charleston Heston and Barbara Stanwyck just to name a few these are actors that in another actors doesn’t just sell the part but becomes then part and make for who they are actors not those they play I cried for a week when Barbra died of live to see Donald go I may cry longer invasion of the body snatchers was one my favorites of his he and his kind of actors was born with a talent it’s who they are like parts of their soul I doubt we’ll see many of their like again most people can write I would dim a dozen really great writers like William Shakespeare Edgar Allan Poe lord Byron Mary Shelly Stephen King Elizabeth Brontë just to name a few great writes not many like not good I would really say great I say legendary as I would Sutherland and his line of actors and musicians we have a few of those Mozart Bach Beethoven Loretta Lynn Johnny Cash Willie Nelson Elvis Patsy Cline Joan Jett Pat B Cyndi Lauper Luciano Pavarotti Andrea Bocelli and Birgit Nilsson you will never see these again no longer the love of it no longer in the soul now all about the Benjamin’s look what Sean Combs did for money Kid Rock Kevin Sorbo men who who bigger then their talent and need to feed that ego stronger then their soul

Agreed!

I came here to say this! RIP
I didn't know he passed. He was great! ❤
Do yourself a favor and make it a point to see Ordinary People. He's absolutely fantastic in it.
When Katniss finally praised President Snow
She praised him when she shot Coin.
That was a remarkably eloquent speech. Bravo.
Incredibly well written and genuinely presented
It's wonderful that two of my all time favorite actors have such respect and love for one another,

What a nice speech

RIP one of Canada's Greatest Actors
A Canadian Legend, RIP Mr. Sutherland.🙏
The final scenes in the mockingjay part 2 are the best of all the movies.
Always Loved Donald Sutherland!! Ordinary people is my favorite. Thank you.
Queen Jennifer, King Donald :D I love both
Katniss finally sticking to the script Effie wrote her.

Perfectly expressed, Grace!
Don't Look Now. Amazing film.
Jason C
It is.
But he is child rape.

Donald Sutherland should have won Oscar or at least nominated for her potrayal of President Snow
"Her" potrayal?
Beautiful speech 👏👏💕
I love the brilliance of Jennifer Lawrence!
Such a lovely canadian legend 😊

Love Donald Sutherland
Canadians are the most humble people on earth
RIP Donald Sutherland
Amazing

I don't think Donald coulda asked for anyone better to honor him then Jen!
you mean "anyone worse" I assume
*than
Ivanatis Nope. I mean better 😊
Congratulations then. That makes you an idiot. I bet you also wanted her to win an Oscar for that garbage performance in American Hustle.
Ivanatis Hey look, if you don’t like her, that’s cool, but that doesn’t mean anyone else can’t
Is she trying to say Otto Preminger? I could be wrong

Shes look like reading something, bcs her eyes always look at 1 point
Donald Sutherland is Canadian not american
She didn't say he was American. She recounted a well known story of how Donald got started and quoted the people involved in the story.
President Snow?
He's Canadian
Can’t take the time to learn to pronounce a name she wrote into her speech??
I hate and love Jennifer Lawrence all at the same time
there's a gun pointed at her behind cameras. Snow is a snake, remember.
Year, Hollywood is screaming now "You MUST LOVE Jennifer Lawrence". This is so annoying
Shhhhh, ignore the elephant in the room.
Lawrence unbearable
no words on her dress either
Sutherland really deserves better
Today President Snow has left us and the Capitol lost its main backbone really saddens me inside out. RIP Donald Sutherland, we'll miss you so much❤!
