@@Pensacola-Handyman yeah who asked you. Insurance makes millions each month off premiums paid and so therefore life is more important than possessions. As i understand it construction requires whats called hurricane straps to be installed on all newer const. These straps are a strip of steel screwed to the roof trusses and down to the upper wall plates and down to wall studs. This effectivly makes the roof and walls one unit.
Knowing the power of wind gusts it’s impressive to see the ability of these homes construction to withstand the amount of sheer power being thrown at them. My house in the northeast is built to carry heavy snow load , but if I got winds like that it would look like match sticks
I never understood that either....like literally it it's getting a hotel for a couple days north. I dont get the people that stick around and wait for their cars to get wrecked
@@firingallcylinders2949 Getting a vehicle to a safe place makes sense. But evacuating a hurricane isn't nearly as sensible as it seems. During Irma in 2017 all the motel rooms were booked as far as Tennessee. Traffic on the return was an all-day ordeal (I evacuated late so I don't know about outbound traffic, though it looked horrible on the news the other day). Gas stations were 80% out of fuel so there was a long wait at every fill-up. For me personally evacuating was much more problematic than staying put and I'll never evacuate again. For homeowners, staying home can also minimize damage because they're on-site to deal with it (example: roof leaks).
you are right; should require building to be at least 1/2 mile from coast line; just a few years ago several codo in Miami beach fell down; they where 11 to 12 stories high.
