Nick Nolte no, you never really learned anything about his brothers, and i don't think Al Jardine said a single word the entire movie - Mike had a pretty big role though
Nick Nolte it's a really good story about someone incredibly creative and gifted but is surrounded by people who absolutely cannot see what he's trying to do cuz they're so musically small-minded
God created someone special when He created Brian Wilson. There will NEVER be another one quiet like him. He was a musical genius. I love every song he ever wrote. I am 67 years old and continue to celebrate my life with his music. Thank you Brian for sharing your heartfelt music with the rest of the world. God bless you!
In 1988 Kokomo and love and mercy songs came out the same day . Kokomo was number 1 back then and over shadowed love and mercy. Now over 30 years Brian Wilson’s song stands the test of time not kokomo . Brian Wilson you are the BEST!!
Brian is so sweet and pure of heart despite all his years of mental illness, bad medications, manipulating managers, showbiz pressure, money and fans - and still his message of love and mercy is the most powerful thing I have heard since John Lennon. "I was sittin' in a crummy movie with my hands on my chin, Oh the violence that occurs seems like we never win." America has become the Walmart of real, exported and simulated violence. We have killed our own souls and don't even know it. What a mean, mean world we have created - and seem to have NO CLUE what has happened.
jsmcguireIII I had the same thoughts going through my head last night walking home from a late screening of Love & Mercy. The song & it's message is all the more poignant in the context of Wilson's life & it gives me great optimism and happiness to know he survived all of that turmoil with this message intact.
+jsmcguireIII Listening to this song while reading about the Syrian toddler washed up on shore in Turkey. Makes me sad. Then I see your comment. It's good that there are other people out there that have heart enough to care about others in the world. Brian cares. This song proves it.
Julie Anne If you have children then you know. People have to learn to hate and not care. We aren't born that way. "And you of the tender years can't know the fears that your elders grew by, And so please help them with your youth, they seek the truth before they can die." Teach your children well!
I just saw the movie last night and have to say I am looking at Brian Wilson and the Beach boys with new eyes. I,too never realized his story was so deep. What a perfect title and song this is for the movie too. Love how he played it at the end of the movie too. I have always been a Beach boys fan.Saw them twice (once with the band Chicago ) years ago.Shine on Brian!
I'm 14 and you've helped me see myself and my life in a totally different way.Music has always been my escape from the world, it is what i would call my safe house.Fear and anxiety run my life but your music gives me the strength to fight it. You inspire me to want to be something more and that is something I will always cherish. Thank you
I've been at my lowest point of my life. I've felt that I have lost my passion for music and songwriting. I think this is the end of my career. AFTER I'VE WATCHED THE MOVIE LOVE AND MERCY. I SAW MYSELF TO BRIAN WILSON. I CAN HEAR THE WORDS AND MELODIES IN MY HEAD.
Brian Wilson's life is truly amazing. This song is one of those songs that have the capability of changing someones life. It makes me want to slow dance with the girl of my dreams. I listen to this song and think of what Brian Wilson would tell me right at this moment. He'd say, "Close your eyes right now, think of the place you want to be, and be there." Love and Mercy is what this world needs. Thanks Brian :)
Saw "Love and Mercy" today and although I remember some of the back story to the movie, I was not aware just how bad it was. For Brian to still be able to make his music, his way is just incredible.
I respectfully disagree, brian went thru some serious shit, eugene landy was the devil, to finally get sober after a decade of decline would have been traumatizing to someone as sensitive as brian, and then to be had by a svengali shiester, evil,a manipulitive guy like that, who was over medicating him in a very, very real way, and keeping him away from his family who wouldnt have allowed such malpractice, and to put his names on brians songs, that movie was amazing, its impossible to overstate what a piece of shit eugene landy was--u should check out a book called " catch a wave:the rise, fall, and redemption of brian wilson" by peter ai es carlin

I grew up in the '60's in So Cal, the Beach Boys were my musical fix,had to have a Pendleton shirt! I have learned to appreciate the intricate harmonies and the complexity of Brian's music, so much achieved through such suffering, but real Love and Mercy did bring him through. Blessings to you, Brian!
i cannot look at this man without wanting to cry, I know he's better now, with people around who actually love him, but to hear his story, all he went thru and endured, the good and bad, everything he sacrificed, all his ups and downs...just man...he's gotta be the strongest man i know. God bless that man.

the beachboys were and indeed still are one of the great bands from the sixties and still sound as fresh today as they did more than 50 years ago. BRIAN WILSON as a songwriter is way up there with lennon ,mcartney , bacarach ,david etc . to brian wilson i wish love and mercy.
Yes. Brian used the Wrecking Crew in the studio while the rest of the band was on tour. It's well chronicled. It's been well chronicled for ages. If there is an insinuation that it all was phony, the band (except Mike Love who couldn't play any instruments and is a nasaly singer) IS playing instruments on all of their early records, plus many of the songs on Pet Sounds and SMiLE, along with the Wrecking Crew. After Brian went into seclusion, and they moved the studio into his house, then bought Brother Studios, the individual Beach Boys resumed playing the bulk of the instruments.

This song is sort of timeless. I mean, it could have been the flip-side of "Surfer Girl" back in the 60s, but could also have been a 2016 song just as easily because it has that distinctive Beach Boys harmony and romantic feel. I don't understand why it wasn't a bigger hit. One of Brian's best! Glenn Frey passed away today, on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and I would like to dedicate this beautiful song them both. Thanks.
