Thanks, Whip! One thing worth mentioning is that the filter was on so tight from the factory, that it was actually seeping oil from around the gasket - hence why I had to break out the tools to get it off (and dented the can). I almost had to resort to the old “drive a screwdriver through it and hope she holds together,” but I got lucky, this time around. I’m going to do another service and oil analysis around 5000 miles. Will keep you posted.
Tight oil filter installation from factory, pretty common. So tight "oil seeping" from gasket, not so common. For a new engine, UOA looks in order.
I good band filter wrench is a must have.
I'd go to 3K or so on 2nd oil and filter to flush out the hard grit like ferrous materials. Hence why we run filtermags on everything.
@@GT-mn3bxnormally, I’d do about 3k on the 2nd fill, but I’m a farmer and harvest just started, so it’s going to be a hot minute before I can get around to it again. At the rate my wife is putting miles on the Yukon, it’ll probably be 4500-5k when that time comes.
Thanks, John, sounds good! and
Thanks again for the filter and oil analysis👍
Smart man, replace the oil before the 1K mark. Cheers!
yes!
This ain’t my first rodeo, lol. One of these days I’ll get around to finishing the engine swap on my ‘69 Cutlass, and I’ll send that first filter to Whip, too.
Thanks Roberto
I have used AC Delco filters in my GM vehicles for nearly 50 years. They are a middle of the pack filter, but more than adequate for street vehicles and reasonably priced. I have full confidence in them for the 5,000 mile change intervals I use.
E-core with metal end caps. That's my favorite style filter. Plenty of flow. Thanks Whip !
You're Welcome John
Yep its better than paper end caps
I second that!
Pretty typical current Champ Labs oil filter construction on the ACDelco. Looks fine. High silicon levels in new engine UOA, not uncommon. Generally, from gasket sealers used new engine assembly. Thanks for vid.
You're Welcome faxmen09
Looks like a well designed well made filter. And no glue slop. It did it's job well. I don't mind a nylon cage or nitrile ADBV as much as I mind sloppy construction. Just make sure you change your oil and filter promptly. No more than 5K miles.
🤔
These really are a great filter for the money. Bought a case of these off of Rock Auto two years ago for a little over $30(for a whole case. Cheap) Used them on everything ; GM 5.3, Ford 3.5 and 5.0 and it even fits on the 5.7 Hemi. Never had any problems with it either.
Perfect time to change oil and filter. First 1 and 2 are most important. Should run a filtermag also.
So nice of John! Looks like a good filter! Nice oil flow with so many inlet holes. This is a great review! 👍
Thank Ella👍
@@WhipCityWrencher You're Welcome! 😊
The PF63 is a long PF48, like a PF61 is a long PF46.
I am glad to see reviews of factory installed filters because I like to see that what they sell to the public is the same filters. Everything looks really good.
I changed the oil on my new Chevy truck at 500 and then again at 1,500. This video shows why it was a good idea.
Thanks for Sharing
Comprehensive video with UOA, great job by owner doing break in oil change. So many say ' manufacturing is better now' I don't believe it.
Thanks for another great vid.
You're Welcome
Filters are changing so much based on where they are manufactured now that I’m not sure how accurate the technical specifications listed for them is anymore.
Nice one Pete. I may switch to that filter. I love the nylon cage and 13 inlet holes. Just the media I'm on the fence with. Thanks😊
You're Welcome John
Only brand new vehicle i ever bought was a 2004 Nissan Frontier. I done first oil change at about 600 miles then second change at around 1500 miles. From then on it was every 5,000. I kept that truck for yrs & it always ran like butter. Some ppl would say those two early ones were not needed but i just consider them money well spent !
Nice video, as always
Thank You!
Every engine has a wear in time, you did fine.
Thank you for your videos!!!
Hi Jensen,
Glad you like them!
Thanks 👍
Welcome 👍
A lot of great info thanks full watch 👍
Thanks for watching
Hi friend. Thanks for great info. Full watch 👍
Thank you too
Great job GM with the nice shard of metal that you left in the engine.
It's normal to find some metal in the first oil change
@@WhipCityWrencherNormal and completely harmless.
Looks like a good filter. Good analysis, video Pete! TFS Merri :)
Thanks Merri👍

OEM ACDelco Oil Filter well made and good product. 0W-20 Engine Oil which is ment to be 100% Full Synthetic. May have to compare ACDelco Engine Oil to other brands like Castrol, Valvoline, Mobile 1, Amsoil, Royal Purple, Redline and Liqui Moli. In Australia 0w-20 Engine Oil is Expensive and I bought Valvoline for my wife previous car and it was $90 for 5 Litres.
Wherever you purchased the oil from ripped you off big time.
I am in Melbourne and I know exactly the bottle of oil you purchased and it usually sells for $60. (Just looked up and it's $61.59 right now). I purchased Penrite when it was on sale for $49 a 5L bottle, and I purchased 3 in one go.
@@jack11224 i Ipurchased 0w-20 Valvoline from Autobarn 6 months ago. Penrite wasn't available on the shelf then, Autpbarn had Nulon, Castrol, valvoline, Liqui Moli, royal Purple and Mobile 1. Couldn'y afford them. Well that was 6 months ago.
Hi Anish,
The Valvoline is a good oil, we can get it a lot cheaper here, under $30.00 for 5 quart jug. Cheers!
are 0w-20 Engine Oils common in USA like the 5w-30 ? @@WhipCityWrencher
@@anishchand4420 Yes they are.
Sounds like owner is off to a good start. Glad he has this attitude. Seems I see a lot go wrong w/Chevies & makes me wonder how well they're being taken care of. I was trained in Chevrolet Division in the 70's but have been a Toyota owner for 40yrs now. Filter is well made. Thanos for going over oil analysis. I wonder how much fuel does in equation? Ex. Top Tier fuels vs cheap? SO many factors, like u say Whip. 👍
It’s a shame what GM has done to the production LS engines. That stupid dynamic fuel management system is about the only Achilles heel in the 5.3. I have a crippling fear of the filter getting loaded up and going into bypass, sending all those sparklies through the oil system and wiping out the lifters/VLOM. Not to mention this water-weight oil were required to run these days. A little fuel dilution, and you’re toast.
@@johnm6455Many are running thicker oil. These thin oils are for getting that last bit of mileage for window stickers.
@@GT-mn3bxI’m leery of thicker oils in an engine designed for 0w-20. Bearing tolerances are tighter, and the low-tension rings have a bad habit of hydroplaning, for lack of a better term, over the higher surface tension of more viscous oils. As a result, more oil is left up top and gets burned, leading to carbon formation and failed catalytic converters. Gale Banks did a spot on one of the diesel podcasts, not too long ago, about running heavier oils in the 3.0L LM2 and LZ0. His advice was to steer clear of thicker oils in engines designed around thin ones.
Thanks👍
Another filter made by champion laboratories.
Should switch to the AC Delco PFG 63 oil filter (AC Delco Gold) its more heavy duty than the standard AC Delco PF63 filter
Hi Mark,
That's a good Idea
Thank you 👍
Molly B. Denim. That’s funny.
Filter looks good but only 500 plus miles. Wonder how it would look at 1000 miles??? Great video thank you
Thank You👍
About the same
That big piece may have came from opening the filter up. I get similar pieces from our can opener. Ughhh, stuff like that falling into our food!!!!
No, I don't think so.
Silicon was probably high just from it being new, not sand dust getting in to the air path, probably being loose silicone rubber seal material floating around in there, small enough to get thru the oil filter. Also, those AC-Delco filters don't filter as well as premium oil filters (Fram Ultra/Titanium, Purolator Boss, MicroGard Select, etc.). Iron and copper are just due to break-in. It is good to get an early oil change to get as much junk out.
👍
Never had a problem with AC Delco. Fram/Microguard I will never let around any vehicle.
I would not recommend using such a low viscosity oil in this engine.
This was a Factory-filled oil
@@WhipCityWrencher
This is can be done for the truck barely reaches its warranty period - and then throw it away for recycling!!!
A large number of wear products in laboratory analysis may indirectly indicate not only dirty engine internals after machining, but also increased wear of parts due to insufficient lubricating properties of 0w20 at operating temperatures of such a heavily loaded engine.
@@Andrew__Smith Yeah but what happens if you use say a 0w or 5w30 oil and your engine has a major problem, does this affect the warranty?
@@WhipCityWrencherThis engine is basically the same as the 4.3L which calls for 5w30. Even has the exact same mechanically driven oil pump. 5w30 would be fine. An engine like Toyotas 2.5L that takes 0w16 has an electronically driven oil pump that relies on specific oil pressure/flow and cannot take a thicker oil without causing problems. 0w20 for the most part is a CAFE friendly oil, but if you were to move up to a thicker oil than is called for do the research on your engine first before assuming the thin oil is only for CAFE purposes.
What's the email to communicate?
If you want to send me an oil filter, let me know what you have, Poker4me007@gmail.com
Oil change 3 needs all the lifters replaced under warranty due to cam shaft de lamination
I hope not
First oil change at 555 miles? That’s insane.
I would do the same thing. Best to get them wear metals out of the engine.
@@WhipCityWrencher There is no evidence that this is necessary. The metals found during oil analysis are microscopic in size and measured typically in parts per million. A decent oil filter will catch all particles large enough to cause engine damage. I change the first time at 2.500 and then at 5,000 and every 5,000 miles thereafter and that is likely overkill. I use 5,000 miles mainly because it is easy to remember multiples of 5,000 on the odometer. Toyota now recommends 10,000 mile intervals and the first change at 10,000 miles (my kids just bought two new Corollas so this is fresh information). Toyota engines aren’t known for early failures so I suspect they know what they are doing … and they also specify 0W8 weight oil, yes, 8, that isn’t a typo. We can’t even buy that viscosity in our area yet. 😁
Seems like a waste of an oil change @ 550 miles, and a waste of an oil analysis report. why did the owner decide to dump the factory fill so early??????
Peace of mind. It's brand new. Good to see what's going on in there.
I would have done the same thing, get the metals in the oil out of the engine. 23 for iron and 72 for copper at 555 miles. Normally those numbers should be in the single digits.
You're supposed to do it in brand new engine that early. Preferably 500 miles. That's most of your wear.
