    Sadly my shutter button fell off and everything else is working fine, but i'm missing what i need to take pictures 😅 Do you think i should just remove the button itself off of some top replacement and push it in until it fits, or should i replace the whole top part like you did?

    Thank you so much for this video! Ordered replacement button on aliexpress for $4 and sucessfully replaced, but it was tough. I figured out there are actually only 3 pins that need to be soldered (ground/half-pressed/fully-pressed), you can see on the main ribbon cable, that there are only 3 traces coming from the button.
    Also had issue with mode switch randomly changing modes, with top cover off it was great opportunity to spray contact cleaner directly in that switch, seems to work perfectly for now.

      I believe you can also buy the whole ribbon cable, but it would cost a lot more than just the button itself.

    Hi, can you provide me with an estimate on how much you would charge to replace the shutter button switch on my Sony A 6000 camera?
    Thank you,
    Peter

    Thanks for the great video and clear demonstration! Any special instructions regarding disconnecting the ribbon cable? Are there connectors/a little bar that locks it in place?

    • @mistahcheng
      @mistahcheng  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, there should be a tab that lifts up to hold it in place. Pretty much all ZIF sockets have a tab that holds the ribbon cable in place.

      At least for me there wasn't any locking bar. Just carefully pulled sides of the cable using small tweezers.

    I have this camera but my old iPhone 8 takes sharper pictures, I am devastated!! what am I doing wrong? should I buy a different lens? I am heartbroken because otherwise it's a great camera. But sharpness is the most important thing to me.

    How difficult is it to remove and replace entire ribbon cable as you mention

    • @mistahcheng
      @mistahcheng  10 месяцев назад +1

      The hardest part would probably be removing the ribbon cable from the board, but other than that shouldn't be too difficult if you've worked on electronics before. The cable itself is fragile so be careful when installing the new one and make sure it isn't bent during installation.

    Wow Sony is genius. Don’t even have to mess with front and rear covers which will mess with flange distance.

    Hi, is there a power-on switch button available separately? Best regards

    • @mistahcheng
      @mistahcheng  3 года назад

      If you're talking about the micro switch, I'm sure it's possible to purchase, but you would have to measure the dimensions and spacing of the switch and look for a SPST micro switch on Digikey or Mouser.

    Hi Alex. Did this solve your problem permanently, or has it become bad again after replacement? Also would you think someone who has never soldered before could do this? Handy with my hands normally. Thanks for the video

    • @mistahcheng
      @mistahcheng  2 года назад

      Hey, t solved the problem permanently, and the only reason the issue would happen again is if the button gets pushed too hard. It's definitely not terrible to solder for a first time soldering project, but make sure you invest in a nicer soldering iron / station to make your life easier. You can also order a replacement ribbon cable with the shutter button if you're not keen on soldering on a new button.

    Replacing the entire ribbon cable is NOT the way to go. I just tried to do so and one end of the ribbon cable is soldered onto another electrical component on the side of the camera by the battery compartment. I have never seen a ribbon cable soldered onto something else. I am not very experienced with soldering and could not fully reach that part of the camera without removing the main board behind the panel so I decided not to try to desolder old ribbon cable. Honeslty if anyone wants to replace their shutter button I would say its easier to just try to solder it straight off the old ribbon cable and replace it their.
