just picked up this lens with a bent barrel because it was dropped. a minor miracle to find this repair video to dissemble the exact lens, because the risk of me destroying it in doing so is high LOL i thank you in advance...
This video is incredible. Thank you so much. I dropped my new camera and the lens was jolted to where something came apart. When I was taking it apart as this video instructed I could tell the inner and outer barrel weren’t connected correctly. I was able to everything back together with the help of this video. I could never have done it without this video and I’m super grateful
Mine drop down too. Did your lens worked fine while the inner and outer barrel weren't connected correctly? The barrels that go out is the one that sound little loose, like 1mm of movement. Is very minimal but still I don't know if it was that before. I have the camera only 4 days.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I wasn't having the main error you focused on, but I needed to replace the motor, and since you described everything in such detail, I felt confident enough to do it. My lens is nice and quiet again :)
At 2:43 while lifting it up I broke/detached the flex cable connection to the small black box(little connector) like thing🤦using glue will fix it?? Or do I need to solder it...or they use some other kind of chemical to make a connection?? Any idea??
Why wont the front lens assembly slide over the inner barrel on the curve part along the groove. It slides up the curve but not down so I cannot even get to the diagonal groove.
Hi. I’m finding the step at 6:16 impossible - you make it look easy but I just cannot keep the two pins level because the inner part moves and I can’t keep it secure with my fingertips. So frustrating!!!
Hi Bartech, Thanks for being the only video that even tackles this...lifesaver mate! Only issue I'm having is getting the inner barrel pins to "Click" as per 7:46. Tried so many times and they just won't. The mechanism rotates, but when it doesn't click, the other parts fall out and I have to start all over again. Driving me slowly insane
That's probably the most difficult part of the whole procedure. The click is just the sound of the metal pins dropping into the gap at the top of the groove on the inner barrel. All I can suggest is making sure that everything is lined up exactly as you see in the video at 7:44, with the metal pins just above the left corner of the triangle indentation on the inner barrel. Then, holding the front of the lens stationary in your left hand. hold the inner barrel in your right hand and rotate the inner barrel towards you. The metal pins will slide along the top of the inner barrel, until they reach the gap, and then they will drop into the groove, with a click sound. Once they drop in, it's just a case of rotating the inner barrel the other way, away from you, while guiding the pins along the groove until everything collapses together. I know how frustrating it is, I spent literally 2 days with my lens in pieces on the first lens I tried to repair, but it gets easier with practice. Just be patient, and persevere.
@@BartechTV I'm able to get it to click in, but then it doesn't easily turn to follow the groove. I don't want to force too hard in case you're not supposed to. Do you have any idea why this might be happening? I've followed the steps over and over and I do hear it click in place, it just doesn't easily slide. Any help is so appreciated!! Thank you!!!
Many many thanks I replaced the ring yesterday using these excellent instructions and it worked perfectly. However, I have to say that it probably took me 5 hours because the reassembly (different bolts in the grooves) wasn't that easy. But with just a few Euros for the ring, I saved a few hundred Euros for a new lens. Thank you again.
Thank you so much! I dropped it while making a video and sadly the smallrig only protected so much! I got it back to it's former glory! Luckily wasn't my 30mm F1.4 ha! A couple small bits of advice to anyone who gets stuck at the tricky bits, when attaching the parts at 7.44 you need to extend the inner lens so, the plastic tabs that slide in, sit further in front of the metal guides. A pair of tweezers are definitely a must to make life easy!
That's the one of the best repair video i found on YT. Very clear and to the point video. i followed your video and replaced the ring. good news my zoom starts working but focus(AF/MF) does not works. any suggestion or help?
Hi, my camera has a problem with the barrel. When I have reached at the 3:00 mark, my barel does not go up and down. It is stuck in the halfway mark with the barel out and theres nothing I can do as the gear isnt turning. Any ideas?
No se nada de inglés, pero te agradezco mucho por la ayuda, me costó entender, pero gracias a tus indicaciones practicas, pude arreglar mi lente, i love so much Pd: Saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱
of course I love the video, but despite I have seen it 50 times. I still really don't know what I m doing at the toughest moment which you present at 7:32 it should be better explained in depth
hello man, you video was super usefull, I found the problem, a little flange in the big barrel is broken, exist a replacement for this entire barrel ? min 6:09
Hello mate, I have a Sony E 1.8/11, which has a scratch. The images and video look fine, but I'm looking to sell it. Is there a way to replace the glass only? Thanks for any input.
Sadly Sony doesn't sell parts like glass elements, and I can't find any sellers on AliExpress or Ebay. Maybe you could look out for another SEL11F18 that's being sold as broken, and buy it just to harvest the front element.
I went to record some bikers and a lot of mud flew on the camera, I disassembled the lens as per the video and removed a lot of dust that was inside it but unfortunately the warning continued to appear. I think I'll buy some rubbing alcohol to clean the inside too. Thanks for the video
You mean the power zoom lever on the side of the lens? It shouldn't wobble, it should be quite securely attached. Maybe the little plastic tab that holds it in place has snapped off.
How do you access the aperture? The aperture rings on my Sony 35mm 1.8 are stuck. Internally it looks pretty similar to this lens. However I can’t find any video that goes far enough to reach the aperture. If anyone has any advice I’d much appreciate it.
Nice video! I have the ZV-e10 with the KIT lens, is decent. I have a question for all the people that has the Sony 16-50mm. When you take out the lens from the camera and you shake it a little bit, did you hear something inside like is moving? I have the camera for 4 days is brand new, everything works ok, but that thing inside the lens is disturbing me. I bought it only so I cannot check another same 16-50 for compare. I appreciate any help :P PS: Is not moving freely like that little plastic broken, is like is moving 1 big plastic part that moves very little from 1 place to another very near. Maybe is normal but I would love to hear from any 16-50 lens owner.
As a YT Videographer I know the value of likes, so I added a 👍. I use a Sony camcorder so this tut didn't pertain to me, but I find the Sony repair videos fascinating. I had planned to upgrade to an A6700 but really need advice on a longer range Sony PZ lens. 16-50mms to short since I am not a vlogger.

incredibly underated. Way simpler and WAY MORE clear than the most viewed current video on this lens.

Snapped the ribbon cable at 4:23. Can you replace it?
You can find replacement flex cables on AliExpress - aliexpress.com/i/1005003065762041.html

i think i figured it out. the focus flex cable has sharp bend where the tiny connection might be broken.
You can get a replacement flex cable on AliExpress for about €7, if yours is damaged.
@@BartechTV thanks for the reply! I already ordered now waiting.

The Sony 18-105mm is a nice lens for video, with a very useful focal range and constant f4 aperture.
