It is nice that you are showing us using the same tools we would have so we don’t have to worry about “do i need to buy a pipe wrench or will this basic one I have to the trick?” The answer was a yes, it sure will!
Leaving this comment for anyone that needs it. I followed the same steps in the video but the new valve wouldn't put ANY water in the tank after a flush. I took the cap off to check for debris (which there wasn't any) but for some reason when i put the cap back on, it worked like it should 🤷🏻
I just installed a bidet and through the course of trying to get the lines disconnected, I inadvertently must have rotated the fill valve to the point where it was stuck against the side of the tank and couldn't fill properly. This video helped me resolve the issue myself without having to call a plumber. Thank you!
Thank you kindly, this was very helpful. Have no experience in this, easy to follow steps, well done :) Mine took a week to settle, and everything is working
Good video; thanks. I get water from a lake, so with this problem I took the assembly off, and soaked the valve end (up to 3 inches in vinegar.) for a couple hours, swishing it around periodically. Worked great; saved a trip to the hardware store and 20 bucks.
So grateful for you and RUclips sharing this. Today was suddenly so stressful after realizing my toilet wasn't flushing properly - thanks to you I was able to resolve this tonight before having to wait another day before a plumber could quote me!
Great video...very easy to follow and your voice is very pleasing to listen to. Instructions were straight forward with no extra bantering. Thanks for showing me how to replace my pump. 👍🏼
By the way, if you can do this, you can also change a tire. I recently got a flat tire and put on the spare myself for the first time. It was so much easier than I thought it would be. Everybody regardless of gender should know how to cook, change a tire, and do basic handiwork like this.
Yeaaaa….I believe you’re going to have an extremely difficult time finding anything like that anywhere in the state of Oregon buddy…..but good luck to you on your endeavors 👌
Thank you so much for this video. I was able to replace the fill valve following your excellent instructions. My toilet is ghost flushing a little (not as much as before) so I think it might be the flush valve and flapper. I'm going to check your channel and try to find those videos. 😊 Edit: I just read a comment where someone said it took a week to settle. Is that normal? Should I just give it some time?
Hi if it’s a new flapper make sure it’s seated correctly and the chain is not to tight causing it to not seal properly. If it’s the old flapper I highly recommend replacing because they warp over time causing the seal to leak creating ghost flushing. Thanks for watching!!
I bought this same exact one because my toilet tank wouldn't fill up this was after I installed my new toto c100 washlet(bidet) I was able to find this at lowes and replaced it and I am glad I did, my old toilet fill value was so old and nasty and it was Old-Style Ballcock replacing it with this brass will last longer and I used the tubing clip to aim the water into the tube and it works (I also twisted the water line level up to make sure the tank will fill up with good amount of water)
Thank you, the video was informative but unfortunately in my husband & my case we ran into problem after problem. Our experience was nothing like this easy-going video was. But thanks anyway.
Sorry to hear that. I had to remove my father in laws faucet that must have been assembled before it was installed 40 years ago cause I had such a difficult time removing it…no room to work. Good luck with your project. Thanks for watching.
Ours doesn’t do it sometimes ? We just replaced ours last year ? Maybe it’s that. My dad usually does it for me? But he’s not here with me so I’ll see if it’s a simple fix
While I can change a PC's motherboard in less than half an hour, including all internal add-on boards, this kind of thing makes me very nervous. It looks so easy to do, but I see a few areas that might be problems in my toilet, so I'm gonna hire a plumber. Better I rely upon an expert than try to follow what seem to be great steps and end up flooding the house by doing it myself. Thanks for a great way to at least understand it all.
I totally agree! I tackle the projects that are easy weekend warrior fixes that I’ve been fixing for years or easy projects that will save me $$$. I definitely call the professionals also. Roof work, under house plumbing, car engine…nope not me…call professionals hehehe. Thanks for watching!
When I get the pumping thing out and pour water into it a lot of stuff come out and it works again. Tks to this video I know how to get it out - the gear beneath the tank.
You make it look so easy. Ok. HELP… l finally got the final nut thingy off the bottom but the old one does not lift right out. The rubber gasket seems melded to the tank. Suggestions? Should l pry it with a screwdriver?
Make sure there isn’t a washer still under there that could be rusted on. If all nuts are out from bottom then yes it might be stuck on top. Good luck! Let me know how it went!!
Question: Should there be water coming out the rubber tube at any point during the flushing? Our upstairs toilet has water run through that after flushing but our downstairs toilet nothing comes out at any time, it fills slow, and runs. So i'm trying to fix all the problems at once.
Yes the rubber tube should refill your tank until it reaches your desired water level. If it constantly running or leaking then your flapper needs to be replaced could be warped over time and not making a seal. If not filling with water then could be hose or filler. Good luck on your project!!
When I twisted that nut I got it tight, then I couldn't move it again with my fingers. Then I forgot which direction was tight and which one was loose and I'd have to use pliers and I didn't want to break the plastic nut if I kept tightening it. And I swear you tightened it in one direction with the at first with your thumb 4:13 (to the right), then when you tightened it again with pliers 4:19 (to the left in the opposite direction). Mine is not leaking but having a quarter turn in either direction is making me nervous. Edit: So I went back to the trash can, and it is righty tighty (your left thumb comes forward). So I tightened mine with pliers the same way. When you tightened it with the pliers you loosened it. But I've never used pliers anyways until tonight. Hand tight is fine, and I couldn't move the nut in either direction with just my fingers anymore. I did learn something from the video though. I learned that I don't need that clip because mine has that hole in the middle I can fit the tube in. But I like having the clip anyways. I can position it to shoot into the hole. It just makes me feel better using all the parts.
Glad you figured it out! Yes turn right to tighten. Turn Left to loosen. Yes, don’t over tighten just a nice snug turn with pliers just to make sure it doesn’t loosen over time and leak. Teflon tape helps create a better seal also. Thanks for watching!
I replaced the fill valve because the toilet wasn’t fully flushing. It worked well for a few days then the toilet was running so I tried adjusting the level of the float. Now the toilet won’t fill. What can I do?
If the toilet is running then it’s most likely leaking from the flapper. Double check it’s seated correctly if new. Old ones tend to warp over time and leak. If the fill valve is not filling properly there could be an obstruction some have filters that sometimes create more problems. Easiest fix get new replacement for each I’ve seen combo for less than $20 online. Good luck on your project! Thanks for watching!

After installing the fill valve, the toilet tank and bowl did not fill with water. The water on off valve on wall had been off for several weeks while I waited for help. The handyman put in a gasket to stop the drip from tank but when he turned on the water on off valve, no water came. Did the fill valve need priming. Amazingly, After it sat for an hour or two, the water came into the tank and bowl. Then it worked to flush it and it filled with water. Do you think the valve on the wall is bad or did the new fill valve need priming? Or what?
Well I think it’s the new valve that might have been stuck or the gasket that goes inside of top was plugged or wasn’t seated right. Was the water valve opened all the way. Anyway glad it’s working now! Thanks for watching!
So my toilet no longer autofills, but if you shake it a bit or wiggle the valve it'll start filling again like normal, any idea of a way to fix this or should I be replacing it entirely?
You can find $10 part on Amazon might be easier than finding and fixing issue on old valve. You’ll still need to remove it to fix it so maybe easier to just replace. Good luck on project! Thanks for watching.
So what you're saying is. If I just dump like a gallon of water in the toilet it will flush again? I had to use the bathroom and never noticed it wasn't filled and now I have body waste just hanging out in the toilet.

Only thing I can think of is to check your water valve next to the toilet to see if it is open all the way. Otherwise it would be limited to the fill valve design.
Did you over extend the height of the filler and not creating a seal on the bottom? Not sure what is the cause but I’d recommend sending back and get another since they’re very affordable.
@@weekendhoneydolist Apparently Kohler doesn’t work well with universal ones so I replaced it and bought Kohler specific ones but the tank still refills sometimes which is why I replaced it in the first place. Is that normal for the toilet to refill in the tank randomly?
Lever with the float. When you open the flap ( toilet handle) water drains causing float to lower and dropping lever that refills tank. Flapper will close, create seal and water valve will close once float reaches your desired level of water fill. Thanks for watching.
hi i have an old system which i have uploaded onto my profile image or chanel. i have just changed the inlet by fluide master but the tank will not fill rather water runs down the toilet bowl. do you know what else i can get
Runs down the toilet bowl? Make sure your seal to the tank is seated correctly, tighten or if it’s old and warped then replaced. Had similar issue with new toilet 🚽 The seal was not sitting correctly. Good luck with your project!
I was hoping you would have showed the plastic liner inside the fill valve tube...normally the plastic will collapse, which causes the plugging of the water supply
@@weekendhoneydolist I had another look and it’s not listed under the contents. Don’t think my model has one! I have another dilemma now! I’ve installed it but the float gets stuck so doesn’t go up and down by itself 😕 do you know why pls?
I've done this before and it worked fine. But this time the water doesn't refill. They only way to get the water to start refilling is I have to pour a gallon of water in the back. Then the water starts to refill. It's only a trickle at best. Then it takes a good 20 minutes to refill. The only thing I can think of is the supply line might be clogged??
Makes sense . Yep I’d replace that line. I’ve had to replace a valve before because of corrosion. Was totally plugged. Good luck on your project. Thanks for watching.
@@weekendhoneydolist I replaced the entire fill valve. There was a rubber like green plug in the bottom of the valve. I don't know what it is or how it got there? Now the new valve works fantastic..
You can do without. There should be a rubber washer in hose to seal but Teflon is so cheap and it’s helped me time and again with poor fittings and avoiding slow leaks.
So, my toilet 90% of the time fills, but then sometimes I have to remove the top and press the lever for it to fill. I cannot figure out why it's stopped regularly filling.
Okay so your valve may not be broken. Apparently when we were younger and they said “don’t flush the toilet a lot” they weren’t lying. When the water fills up, it makes the lever go up; and then when you flush, the water leaves and pulls it back down. So if you flush before the toilet is filled, the lever may not move and your toilet just won’t fill up. I thought my shit was cooked, then I moved the lever and it’s fixed 😭
Flapper? You replaced the whole valve? Around 12 bucks on Amazon for new valve or around $16 bucks at hardware store. Water coming in through hose? Maybe also new hose?
A fellow viewer left a comment below the video with an explanation how to fix if you don’t want to replace. Involves removing a washer that is most likely built up with gunk. I haven’t tried to fix since the part was cheap on Amazon and easy to replace. Good luck on your project.
If its a Fluidmaster toilet valve ........remove the valve, @1:33 turn upside down and look into the tube. You will see a foam plug seated about 1 inch into the tube. Use needle nose pliers to remove that piece of shit and then replace your toilet valve. Fluidmaster doesn't even show that foam plug anywhere on their toilet bowl schematic diagram. It's worthless and fails over time. Thank me later.
Thanks so much for this. So true! Amazing how so many fluidmaster repair videos don't even mention the foam and that problems with the foam could cause fill problems.

My friends toilet tank won’t refill by itself so I have to manually do it
I replaced the valve with a new one but the tank will not fill up. What is wrong?
It’s so cheap and easy to just replace the whole thing. About $10 on Amazon I have a link below video. Thanks for watching.
Sorry thought you meant seal/washer might be a defective valve. Return and replace. Good luck!
What causes the old one to stop filling?
Is there a temporary fix?
Or a way to clean out whatever is clogged up?
Thank you!
A fellow viewer left a comment below the video with an explanation how to fix if you don’t want to replace. Involves removing a washer that is most likely built up with gunk. I haven’t tried to fix since the part was cheap on Amazon and easy to replace. Good luck on your project.
Plumber replaced it 2 weeks ago and it just broke
Bummer. Well it’s affordable and it’s an easy fix. Let me know how it goes!
That big thing that "pops out easily" won't come out at all! 😰😰😰
Dude. Stop saying go ahead so much,
Lol ok
Yeah sure, $12 bucks two years ago. 🤣
Yep. You’re right, price gone down. Just looked up part on Amazon. You can get one for $8.98 a fluid master. 😂 Thanks for watching!
