I'm writing here as a female senior citizen, living in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. When I got home from work today, I learned that one of my toilets wasn't filling properly. As one who prefers to save time and money by doing things myself, I did some quick reading, watched your video, then headed to the hardware store. It turned out that I knew more about what I needed than did the salesperson. Driving home with the new fill valve, I realized I had forgotten to cook some brown rice yesterday, so I started the rice cooking before heading into the bathroom to fix my toilet. Following your fabulous instructions, I successfully replaced the fill valve AND cleaned up, all in less time than it took the brown rice to cook. Thanks for this clear, informative video that saved me time, money, and frustration, and gave me some self-confidence!

Omfg....THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! My toilet hasn’t been able to be flushed normally in probably close to a year but I was so hesitant to try to fix it bc it took me so frickin long when I replaced the innards years ago. I’ve been having the Fluidmaster (how ironic that was) repair kit sitting in my bathroom for months. So after damn near throwing my back out by filling the tank with buckets of water by hand in order to flush, I decided to search handy dandy RUclips for help. And your video was the first to pop up. I literally had this thing completely done in less than half an hour. YOU ARE A LIFESAVER!!! Without guys like you posting these how to videos for girls such as myself, I’d have no clue how to really repair anything. I’d pledge you my first born son but he’s 16 already so I don’t think you really want him. 😜. Please continue posting videos so the clueless of the world, such as myself, can regain living a normal bathroom life.
    YOU’RE F**KING AWESOME!!!!

We have a tight little space for our toilet and it was a bit difficult to navigate to get the water line and locknut off, but I did it and the rest was pretty easy due in large part to your easy to follow video. Thanks again for taking the time to upload this video and help nearly 5,000 other folks (based on the likes) avoid some extra fees by not calling a plumbing professional. Have a great day!

  • @Phlebas

This is exactly what I needed. I narrowed my problem down to the fill valve and tried to clean it out (we have hard water in my area, so I figured there were mineral deposits backing everything up). Cleaning it didn't work and I was hesitant to just replace it until I saw this video. It's a lot easier and cheaper to fix than I imagined.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I went to Home Depot, bought what you said and followed your instructions. Well my noisy ass toilet that never stopped running is now fixed and operating like a beauty. The tank fills up so quickly and then just beautiful dead silence.
One piece of advice for anyone who might encounter the same problem as me. The little gasket thing on the outside of the toilet that holds in the old fill valve was stuck on there with what seemed like glue. After an hour of cursing and destroying my knuckles, I tried chiseling it with a switch blade and I finally broke it. I then ripped the old dill valve out of the toilet and just snapped it. Good luck.
Great video. Subscribed. Time to take a big ol' shlt to see how this baby really runs.

0:14 Thanks for posting this. That's the cleanest toilet I've ever seen. As far as those hard water stains in the tank go, that's normal. If you're really worried about it, just pour a cup of bleach in there and let it sit for half an hour or so. Obviously, just be sure to flush it through a few times before letting anyone use it. You know, because of the after-splash. You don't want anyone to get bleach burns on their bottoms. 1:05 Anyway, I went to the local hardware store this morning and got that exact same fill valve you showed. I took it home and put it in, no problem. Total cost: $9.98. Actual labor time: 5 minutes. Now I can poop again without having to flush with a bucket.

This was a perfect tutorial video, very clearly explained, showed everything needed in concise language. The cost of this repair to me was $7.18 for the exact parts he used and 5-10 minutes of my time and the toilet is operating like new! I don't consider myself very good at fixing things, so when the toilet tank stopped refilling I automatically called the plumber. They gave me an estimate of $300 to fix it. No way was I paying that to replace a $7 part. I picked up the same one in your video from Home Depot and had it replaced in a few minutes. Tank is refilling perfectly now and no more constant running noise. Thanks for the clear, easy instructions!

Awesome guide to fixing and replacing the flush valve. For people doing this at home by themselves, please note that when I did this, the source supply pipe valve was stuck in the older flush valve which caused the supply pipe to leak as soon as I started the main. Luckily after searching for similar issues online, I found the solution which fixed the leak issue.

I’d like to thank you for posting this video.
I was brought up by a very old school father who made me stand beside him for every laborious task ever needed in my house. Back then, it was EXTREMELY annoying. However, later in life it proved to be very helpful. That said.. it made me HATE blue collar work, which influenced me to work on Wall Street, in a white collar setting. But, we are all faced with household breakages, which if you are somewhat of a man, you should be able to handle. After decades of deferring to and paying the blue collar pros, I decided to use my childhood blue collar acumen (haha). Rather than calling a plumber to fix my toilet bowl flushing issues, I took a shot at it on my own. But, what do I know??.. the toilet bowl tank looked like a car engine to me. My toilet water was not refilling… but if I pushed the top of what looked like a long pin with a button on top and the tank would fill. Then I’d flush and it would not refill. I watched your very easy to understand video and bam.. you resolved my problem. The refill clip was indeed attached incorrectly. It was positioned so that the water was going into the tank and not the overfill pipe. I adjusted so that the water was shooting into the overflow pipe, and wallah, it worked perfectly. It took the time it takes to watch your video, and 10 more seconds to repair. You saved me $300 and made me look cool in front of my wife. 😂🎉🎉🎉. Awesome. Thank you very much. You are the man!!!

You're a lifesaver. After watching this video, I went straight to Home Depot and bought the same fill valve and replaced the old one. Turned the water back on and the fill valve went into action. Definitely, an empowering moment fixing the toilet since it's such a necessity. Thank you so much for your tutorial
