  • Gabe Ikard and Teddy Lehman recap Oklahoma's 38-33 loss to Kansas that was fueled by conservative offensive play calling and an inability to stop Kansas' rushing attack (2:50). They recap Oregon smacking Utah and Texas with Maalik Murphy at QB handling BYU (1:14:06). Teddy and Gabe give their “Winners and Losers of the Weekend:” Oklahoma State, Ollie Gordon, Heisman Trophy contenders, Georgia destroyed Florida & the Big 12 newcomers (UCF, Cincinnati, Houston and BYU) continue to struggle in conference play (1:29:18).

    I'm a Longhorn fan, but I really enjoy listening to your analysis of the games. I honestly think this year is a perfect training ground going into SEC play next year because both Texas and Oklahoma are getting everyone's best shot...EVERY WEEK. Both are learning to win tough games when they aren't playing well, and both will drop that game that leaves you scratching your head. I'm concerned about next week vs KState for Texas. This might be one of those games where we run into the wrong team at the wrong time. The one plus from your game yesterday is that OU came storming back with 21 unanswered points. If they can continue to mature with the young guys in the lineup, and learn how to handle the ebbs and flows of momentum, the sky is the limit. I know we Longhorn fans are always wanting the youngsters to get in, and we forget that most aren't ready yet. The maturity aspect of it is a part that we forget about concerning the handling of the game flow and momentum swings. Anyway, lets both keep the one loss so we can keep the rest of the conference out of their own championship game haha...great show!

    I'm only 29:00 through the video as I write this: Over on the SoonerScoop channel, during his interview, I commented on Lebby's play calling and said that I think he has a certain "scared" aspect of his personality that bleeds into his play calling. Maybe scared is the wrong word, but I notice that any time Lebby's met with resistance (i.e. TFL or short rush gain, batted pass or incompletion) on a few consecutive or same-drive plays, he'll completely abandon that aspect of the offense. Instead of aggressively attacking the moment with calls that suit the O Line, RBs, and WRs CURRENT momentum and execution, Lebby makes calls that seemingly seek to preserve what's been gained on the drive, not to FINISH the drive by ASSAULTING the defense THROUGH the goal line.

  • @drwinstonOboogi

    It felt like OU's offense was being deliberately sabotaged with play calls and player utilization choices. At times it was clear they didn't have intentions of scoring. And most disturbing for me was this; OU dropped from being a double digit favorite to just -7 pts at kickoff. That's an insane avalanche of cash being put on Kansas to move the line that much.

    Against O-State, I want to see a heavy dose of Tawee, Sawchuck, Anderson, Stoops, and Farooq. If those guys combine for 45 touches, it should equal success. I hope Stutsman, McCullough, and Gentry Williams can play damn near the whole game.

      We need to get out to a big lead so that Gundy doesn’t feed OU with a bunch of Gordon. He will try to keep the Sooners offense on the sideline and shorten the game. Of course you never know what to expect. The defense may make Bowman look like a Heisman candidate when in reality, he’s the worst QB in the league.

    So very frustrating. I’m sitting there watching the game saying, “I don’t get it! So, I come to the experts, to help me understand. And what do I hear? “I don’t understand.” LOL… Not sure if that makes me feel better (because I can recognize that the play-calling is baffling) or worse (because the play-calling actually *is* baffling). Thanks guys, appreciate all your analysis!

      What pisses me off is the age old saying, if you play to lose, youre gonna lose. And it almost looked like Lebby was throwing in the towel with that second to last drive. How you can call that drive is beyond me. Then again, I never coached so...

    • @dandyfluff
      @dandyfluff 9 месяцев назад

      @@royals1833 That series sure makes the loss hard to swallow. Downs made that interception, and I was like, you’ve got it guys. But no.
      I'm in no position to criticize Lebby since there’s so much I don’t know. I assume he was just trying to bleed the clock (as opposed to last year when the hurry-up 3-and-out reigned supreme). But I feel like the attitude was “let’s see if we can run out the time and get outta here” rather than “let’s go win this thing.” It’s just not confident football.

    Great video guys. You both said everything that was 100% correct. I wasn't a fan of Lebby last year, and he hasn't done anything to regain my confidence, this year. I'd like to know the statistic/yards gained from all the offensive plays (jet sweeps, lateral passes etc) that are initiated behind the line of scrimmage. And Lebby's personnel selection has had me scratching my head alll season long. I got it, players work their asses off during the week, and may earn more playing time. Apparently, to the coaches, Freeman has earned a scholarship, but does that mean he's the go-to-guy when we need length/heighth, during nut cutting time? Thanks Teddy and Gabe, good stuff!
