Just got mine (mini plus). This thing is 100% worth it. Everything just works. Super fun to play with. I also tried Minilab 3 which was a struggle from start to finish. The only good thing about Minilab 3 is the keys. Which, here you have an octave more. I think MPK mini plus is 2022's winner

Be sure to download the firmware, which fixed my jittering Mod wheel. Out of the box it can come with a very low version number (0.5 or something)

@@bloodcell6282 Sorry mate I use Reaper. In essence, it doesn't work at all with Reaper, that is, the 5 transport buttons don't do anything until they are configured in the daw
For example the play button fromthe AKAI sends a midi message (B0 76 7F) which, in Reaper, you could assign to the action "Play", or anything else really.
I'm not sure if such things are possible with Live. But I would be surprised if it doesn't work though, considering Live's popularity
edit: actually there are presets for ableton and Logic in the AKAI
bank 3 (prog select + pad 3) is Logic, I think bank 2 is Ableton but I have overwritten it

I mean, how much would you have to pay for the 100 sounds/drums/effects if you bought them for the MPK Mini mk3? Also, it's not only the sounds the Play comes with, also the in-built speaker/soundcard is part of the extra. So I may be wrong - please do if that's the case - but would the play not be better for someone just starting out, wanting to get the most for the least amount of money? Pair the Play with e.g. Koala sampler and that's all you need? Am I missing something? (By the way, by now the difference is more like 30€ from the 50 it once was - does that change anything?)

Thanks for the video. I bought the MPK Mini plus as an upgrade to my original MPK Mk1 because of the added transport control section. But to my disappointment, I found out the MPK Mini Plus is not plug-and-play (for both Logic and MPC Beats). I found this to be weird because it has program select options for these DAWs. Really frustrating!

"Beginner to intermediate level" what? Why wouldn't a seasoned professional buy an MPK Mini Plus? I just bought one and I've been writing, producing and performing for more than 40 years. We play festivals and support touring bands, locally, interstate and internationally, so my professional need is for something ultra-portable. A full featured controller like this, that I can slip into my carry-on luggage, is the best thing imaginable. Previously I had a KeyStep for the extra keys and a MiniLab for the pads and knobs, now Akai have made all those features available in a single controller that's the same width (length) as a 32 key KeyStep. What professional wouldn't be interested?

Questions that I still have after watching this video because I am a newbie in this...
    1. The built-in sounds that come in MPK Mini Play don't come on MPK Mini mk3? is that right?
    2. MPK Mini Play has speakers but can we hear the sound from MPK Mini mk3 if we are using headphones?
    3. MPK Mini Play can't record without a computer, does that mean that we can't make live loops without a computer?

I know your comment is a year old but I thought I'd reply anyway. My experience was with electric guitar. Then I came down with carpel tunnel problems making my fingers numb on my left hand. I could not feel the strings to make chords. This year I thought I'd buy a keyboard of some type but did not know where to start. I did not want to spend too much money. I wanted piano and synthe sounds. First I had ordered a Zoom R20 for recording guitar tracks but during the tutorials on RUclips I learned it had built in synthe functions but needed a midi controller keyboard. I pondered all makes and models and settled on the Akai MPK MINI PLUS because of its price point and 37 key features. I purchased it though Musicians Friend as an open box discount. With tax it came out to $148.00. They actually shipped a new one with the box never opened. Not having a clue what to do with it I hooked it up to the R20 and found a lot of cool things. However the MPK has free DAW software called MPC BEATS to download to a computer. This opened up all the possible sounds I was looking for and then some on a keyboard. It looked complicated but RUclips tutorials got me started. For a first time buyer I'm sincerely impressed with the AKAI MPK MINI PLUS. I would be interested to know if you settled on getting anything.🌵
