They're both prog and could be a unique challenge for these talented lads while being well known enough to catch viewers

So I guess he "know" just like, heard on radio, but easily he turned to another station and forgot about it xD - At least, I guess is more like that

Same. Don't buy it. I can see someone not knowing who it's by and not really being familiar with the song, but they should at least just recognize the tune like "Oh yeah I've heard that before"... Like this is a guy in the music industry, not sure his age but he looks like he's in his 40s thereabouts -- so it's his generation's music, AND the song has been famous probably his entire professional career... appearing on the radio, movies and other media, getting played a lot across our society for 30 years now... Not buying it one bit.

Musicians usually aren't as tied to a genre like many fans are, so they are like to appreciate the skill. While this isn't exactly jamming, they can still learn new things.
Like greatness appreciates greatness. If you follow sports and sports commentary, you know of retired players now on YT who say that modern players couldn't play back then. But look at the players who do that - they aren't Hall of Fame players. The ones who appreciate modern athletes? Usually the greats.

Think back in high school to those policing what is good or bad music - people (back when I was young) listen mostly to the music of their social group.
Whereas here they appreciate the choices and nuances the other musician made.

As a drummer, it’s true. Even if I may not be able to replicate what a great drummer is doing, I still understand the basic framework of what’s going on & what they’re doing. Once you know the time signature, it (kinda) takes care of itself. The rest is up to the skill of the person playing the instrument. The great ones can take your breath away & you think, “never in a million years would I (or could I) have done that!”

Being a hip hop head from the Bay Area, backpackers and skaters found common ground with the Dookie album! I was more a hip hop head, but Green Day was both hated on and loved by my punk rock homies. Looking back, Dookie was a priceless piece of nostalgia that even my hip hop azz can thrash to now and then!

One of the first songs I learned as a beginner drummer back in 94. Its a pretty straightforward upbeat song with lots of places to put fills in.

As a musician that grew up around a lot of rock and punk - I love seeing drummers of different genres on your channel - Id really love to dig into some of these genres - any chance you can get like an old school funk/gospel drummer to come in and do like a history on those genres? Really love the vids dudes/dudettes!!

what's really incredible to me is how many of the accents he already seemed to pick up from the drumless track, like when you learn a song's melody before its exact lyrics

Every time I see someone who doesn't listen to rock jump into a song like this, they can almost always get the groove but don't know what the sound is. 90% of the time, cymbals and fills, you do more cymbals and fills and you got it.

For starters...that kit has quite a happy color scheme! Now for the performance. The performance largely encapsulates the essence of the pop/punk genre. Tight, in-the-pocket groove with some experimenting in the musical transitions. Not stepping on the guitars or bass but using the silences of both to really impact the song. On a base level this was absolutely perfect for a first round shot (especially from a drummer not in the band/genre) where later added complexities finish the final product.

I know you've said you've got quite the backlog of videos, but I just wanted to say that I don't mind y'all doing "simple" songs. I'm not a drummer, and my sense of rhythm is...questionable, if I'm being charitable. So, when someone comes in and plays along to an already busy track, it's difficult to pick out when they deviate from the OG. However, on a track like this, I have an easier time. At any rate, I'm excited to hear what you've got coming out in the future. Thanks for your content and highlighting such skilled musicians!
