interesting point... KMAG was supposed to have a 20s penalty add on after the race. But because he was the last person to not be lapped, he was able to continue to finish the lead lap, while the others behind couldn't. So even if they added that penalty time, he still would classify higher than any of the cars behind because he completed 50 laps, while the others behind only did 49. Of course this is out of the points anyways. But it would be a seriously flaw in the system had he got a point(s) and gotten no effective penalty at all thanks to the other cars being lapped.

@einstijn138 drive trough and stop and go penaltys still exist but aren't used as much what you are suggesting is that a 5 second penalty turns in to take 25 to 30 second penalty because of the time lost in the pit lane. And in this case Magnussen completed 50 laps the other behind only completed 49 laps and even with 20 seconds of penaltys added a lap of Jeddah is more then 20 seconds because after Hülkenberg had pitted Magnussen was able to drive away from Ocon and the rest

It dawned on me today, as a Max fan, that I'll probably never be able to look at races in the same way again.
A couple of years ago I was at the edge of my seat, every race was his to win. Even finishing 3rd could feel spectacular as a fan after a enjoyable race.
But now, every race is his to lose. After domination nothing will ever feel satisfactory anymore expect more domination.
Every non-win feels like a loss, like a possible hick-up in a battle to become the best of all time. But these races are not really enjoyable to watch, because you never see him drive, only at the beginning and end, or if something would go terribly wrong.
After a downfall, like Lewis Hamilton has experienced over the recent years, I would expect for Lewis fans for it to feel like nothing could live up to his domination era, and a possible win or good result will always be in the shadow of that era or with an aftertaste of bitterness there. But Lewis fans could probably enlighten me on that theory better.
I love watching the racecraft of the drivers and the sport (don't like the entertainment/Las Vegas/celebrity/unnecessary drama aspect of it, but love the actual racecraft) and watching the drivers I root for and experiencing it as a spectator of the sport.
Seeing a driver like Verstappen in his prime and his ability is amazing and I appreciate this fact (when we get to see it), but how do I really enjoy watching only seeing him having a race to lose?
Or does the enjoyment of fighting for wins and not especially dominating and having struggles throughout a season, like Hamilton has now, come back to you as a fan? Could I enjoy it seeing Max not dominating anymore?

    • @lukebrady7636
      @lukebrady7636 2 месяца назад

For several years Max was the underdog people cheered for beacause he was the best hope to beat the Mercedes empire. Eventually that happened and what were seeing now is his reward for his struggles in his underpowered, unreliable cars he had before 2021 which he was still a menace to the Mercs.
Now he's the empire that someone has to take down and it will happen some day. No one's domination has lasted for ever. Like Sebastian Vettel said sometime in 2013 (I think?) "We need to enjoy these days. We don't know how long they'll last." How he responds to that challenge will go a long way to determining how he's looked back on after his F1 career is over.

Kmag wasn't out there picking up penalties on purpose. It was only after he got both, he went into full park the bus mode for his teammate. It's good team strategy, something that really lacks in F1 most of the time but was played to perfection here.

Doesnt matter. Penalties should be enforced as soon as they are able to enter the pits, if not, adding x amount of penalty time /lap, and if not taken within 2 laps, the car is disqualified outright.

11:02 - It's bc the designers have worked out how to make their car more efficient and disturb the air behind them to make it harder to follow in. That's what happens when you let the engineers find little holes in the regulations.
EDIT: Regarding Norris's suspected Jump-Start, his tyres were still inside/on the white lines when the lights went out, so technically he didnt jump the start.

I’ve mostly been against reintroducing drivethrough penalties but honestly that Magnussen performance shows exactly the situation they are good for, he completely obliterated both Albon and Tsunoda’s races with illegal moves that kept them behind him to help Haas strategy, a drivethrough rather than a time penalty meant it would have actually been a punishment rather than him just happily taking the penalties to ensure Hulkenberg got a point

    • @alexejschlowick5672

@alexejschlowick5672 he ended up with 20 seconds of penalties at the end of the race (which didn't apply cos the cars behind him were lapped.) So a drive through would have been the right call in this case. It was really unfair that he was allowed to race so recklessly and against the spirit and letter of the rules and essentially get away with it. Meanwhile Tsunoda lost a position for a penalty that occurred before he was even on track.

    • @alexejschlowick5672

@@Comrade_Jason yeah but in this case it would be 2 drive throughs and i was talking about penaltys in general not just this 1
