    Densely-packed knowledge transfer that kept my interest. I applaud your choice to educate viewers about WHY being able to smoothly adjust exposure could be important to filmmakers - instead of simply parroting the speeds & feeds like most reviewers have begun doing. What about the Sony 20mm f1.8 G Lens?

    • @wadefrench9254
      @wadefrench9254 4 года назад +2

      I was wondering the same thing! The 20mm is even newer and has the Dual XD Linear Motor autofocus system which I think is supposed to be even better than the system in the 24. I wonder if the 20 mm is just a little too wide for Matt. I am seriously considering buying one of these two lenses so I would be interested in any input between the 20 mm and 24 mm.

    Love this lens as well, Matt! Question for you about the AF - have you encountered any pulsing effects that many have with the Sony autofocus? I've seen that many have this issue, including myself. The 24mm seems better than the 50mm, but I feel like every now and then I still find some issues. Do you have any thoughts on this? It seems like based on this video you've had pretty minimal issues, so I'm trying to find your secret (settings) that I could replicate to resolve this problem!

    Sigma released a 35 1.2 with an aperture ring too, but you can move it so easily that I am sure for the update version it'll have a locking mechanism like my old AF-D Nikkor lenses did. Still this Sony 24 1.4 is a no brainer since this is the focal length for gimbal use and having reliable autofocus it's crucial for it. Great review Matt.

    Hi Matt, just ordered Sony A7S III, trying to decide between the 24mm you've covered in this review, 16-35mm, or 20mm 1.8 G version. Need to shoot fitness videos indoors (not a lot of light in a space where I normally shoot) and hiking, climbing, outdoor adventure videos. Will be shooting most in 4k 120, so from what I understand, because of that there will be a crop in turning that focal length to more of a 28. What would you recommend?

    • @virityrealtual3831
      @virityrealtual3831 2 года назад

      What did you end up choosing and how did you like your choice. I'm also conflicted. 24 1.4f or 20 1.8... Sigh. I really want that extra 2/3 stops of light for that versatility. i will be mostly filming family moments/people, not interested as much in landscape (which the 24 can do just fine) or architecture or vlogging. So I'm leaning to the 1.4 (only 300 euro more expensive).
      Currently own tamron 28-75 and 85 1.8. I will be selling the tamron after buying a wide angle, and after buy a 35mm (probably the 1.8 since it has barely no focus breathing). (Shooting on a7siii).
      Decisions, decisions

    Hey nice review. Just went and bought one today. Just a quick question; whenever i change the aperture I can hear a annoying noise from the lense. Do you think this is a fault in the lense. Could you please confirm. Thank you very much

      I would return it, my lens is silent when I change aperture

    smoother than if I dip it in beard oil. Love it!
