at 73 and with 50 years on 2 wheels i just bought a used sv650, it was a cream puff, 12k mi. all original, garage kept on a batt. tender. the owner even had a complete set of soft luggage he thru into the deal, he offered to follow me home rather than install all the voodoo straps. i love this bike....no it's not a vfr, which is what i have ridden since the late 80's when i got a slightly used '86 750. being a gen 2 bike the throttle is way more sensitive than i like and the compression braking way stronger than i'm used too. it takes some getting used too. i have the on throttle figured out but i find myself slowing down to much setting up for curves. after 2 weeks of ridding i still love it and i'm glad i bought it. thanks for your input, i watched at least one of your reviews before my purchase and i used it to prevent myself from buying a k 750 i had promised to buy when i turned 60......still not ready for a pokey old guy bike. :)

Yamm, after watching your vids for a while I bought a 2017 SV650A. Could not be happier. put a Yoshimura Alpha carbon slip-on on it, and it sounds like a Ducati v-twin. If anyone is on the fence about buying an SV over a MT07, or the other 650's in the class. they are are good bikes , but the SV650 has an awesome factory suspension, sounds great with an aftermarket pipe, is bulletproof reliable, easy to service, and I think it looks sexy as well.

I ride a 797 Monster and believe you would find it to be a similarly analog and rewarding bike. After having a Triumph Speed Twin, I really appreciate the cable throttle linkage. I wish the manufacturers would realize that the throttle is our primary control touchpoint, and needs to be a visceral connection to the bike.

I went for a 2017 SV and I gotta say I change my mind pretty much everyday lol. Some days I'm happy I went for the reliable economical and still very fun and good looking SV, others I just wish I had that Ducati character, handling and look again. I might go for a clean example M796 as my next bike but I'm still afraid of the reliability since I've had my fair share of problems with the 600 even though the 796 has a pretty good reputation. And I replaced 2 engines back in 2017 on my track only gsxr750 which barely made 1000miles each. Ducati nowadays is very reliable motorcycles plus requires very long maintenance schedule. only issue is the part price and availability.

@@twrcrew8852 Both bikes ridden in a similar way on the track we go to our local track once/twice a week. It's not like he is holding back because it's his main bike and even so my bike was brand new it had no business to have such short lifespan it's a track bike after all. Also, the data you're using came from 2014 customers reports which I kinda doubt the legitimacy of it. We have no actual data about who files the report an actual owner or anybody or by failures rates what they're referring too? any recall work or actual major failures. I never owned Ducati but never heard of complains of actual Ducati owners but the ones who had Ducati back in the 90s I'm more of Yamaha and Aprilia and according to the survey Aprilia should literally blow up the moment you take it out the dealership but I've 2017 tuono 1100 for over 2 years and done 23k miles without a single issue, not even a small oil leak. So I don't buy the legitimacy of that survey.

SV650s like to lean, and run forever with little to no maintenance. Most GSXR parts bolt right on so it's the choice for those that like to add character to their bike without spending a fortune. Ducati's are well... expensive and sound slightly better.

I definitely want clip ons on it. Also I would just buy the desmo valve tuning kit. It would be cheaper in the long run than taking it in. But....I wouldn't get either of these if I was in the market, at least not at the brand new price. Eccentric tractor like motor and jerky throttle, furnace like heat in city traffic... but on the open road it is a lovely light bike even restricted for A2. That said with busy streets, remember to ride like you're invisible and you'll be fine!
