It's the same story with Toei. They don't respect their tried and true products. They probably sit around and say dumb stuff like, "It's Dragon Ball, we don't have to run much promotion." Just like they thought they didn't need pro level animators for the beginning of Super. It's so disrespectful...
It's just very stupid of toei leadership to be stuck mentally in the 1800s and not know that times have changed they must do a better job promoting the next movie if another movie is going to be even made for the franchise.
They literally use the db franchise to boost merchandise sale as bandai like and also help the spoiled younger child that is one piece anime adaption, an awesome franchise like db is literally being treated like a second fiddle for another series
@@luisalonso959 shows like My Hero Academia and One-Punch Man are doing great on manga sales because part of each franchise appeals to a western audience. I think this is just a dragon ball problem
@@idrissbenaziz2411 yes the appeal is there but japan doesn't care if we like it or not . MHA is doing great now, (big deal) dragon ball has been relevant for more than 30 years. That being said , this movie doesn't look great.
Yeah it really sucks especially for the games. The Broly movie went so hard and promoted the movie in literally every single DB game that existed at the time even before it released outside Japan 😭
There are casual fans that don’t even think the movie is “Official” because of the new style and lack of promotion. One of my friends who loved the new Broly movie literally asked if it was fan animation lol. They definitely dropped the ball with international release. But, maybe they didn’t really care how it did internationally, unlike DBS Broly
@@MalicetheOmega You're definitely not. There are many of us, just most of us aren't vocal about it because people typically praise what they like leas than they attack what they dislike. Super Hero is my second favorite DB film of all time... And my 3rd favorite anime film.
What pisses me off is the DB is the most memorable and most influential Anime of all time yet Toei treats Dragon Ball like it's cheap shitt. Dragon Ball should be treated with the highest budget and be at the level of One Punch Man fight scenes etc
@@secoTheSonicFan EVERYTHING is treated cheap shitt in Dragon Ball from Toei for the past decade. Dragon Ball is just an extra cash cow at the bottom of the list. I ain't talking about just 1 movie.
Unfortunately they go for high profit. Like you said: most memorable of all time, meaning "anything we do will sell, so we don't care if it's good or bad, let's just do something"
I hate that. One punch man and one piece goofy over the top animation looks so terrible. I don't know why ppl like those shows. The story is very stereotypical
Dragon Ball in México is so big that the fans literally influenced the casting for the new Gohan VA, plus the big event that was made for Goku vs Jiren. It just shows how little Toei cares for international fans based on the marketing of super hero.
Since they did it and knew how to do it with Broly, they activly chose not to do it with Super Hero. It was a WAAAAY cheaper production and no matter what you say, CG is way cheaper than what they did with Broly. Why waste all that money they safed on marketing when all they want to do it sell figures of yet another transformation to the hardcore fans?
Ive said this countless times. As cool as gohan is, this movie was made for the boruto audience. not sure if its incompetence or bad direction but most fans aren't going to the theaters for a gohan movie.
@@jasonone8726 I also think that Toei might know that any marketing expense might not yield positive results since most fans will either go or not. I saw broly in the theater but am not interested in a CGI gohan movie. as good as the CGI is its not what OG fans want.
@@steve87j the thing is though, people may be mad that they know gogeta is in the movie but they will still watch it, not to mention all the people who will watch it because they found out gogeta is in it. It’s really not a loss to have these reveals in trailers from a marketing standpoint.
It's a bit strange. This movie didn''t have any Video Game marketing content in the West, either. Broly had a big DLC for Xenoverse 2 that added Full Power Broly and Gogeta Blue about a month before the movie came to Western Shores. And the anime had done similar with releasing MUI Goku into XV2 a few days before he debuted in the anime in Japan. But this movie has a whole lot of nothing, Nothing for Xenoverse 2, FIghterZ, Breakers, etc. They got unveiled for Heroes in Japan, but that's about it. And it's odd because Xenoverse 2 literally just got that community vote DLC pack that added UI Omen, Dyspo, and GT Vegeta. They could have easily turned that into an Orange Piccolo/Beast Gohan/Gamma 1 or 2 or Cell Max pack to help promote the movie.
Amazing movie, garbage marketing. The staff who worked on this movie had so much passion for western culture that they integrated into this film, yet the higher ups at the top of Toei are preventing it from reaching the amount of success it deserves! They're literally spending more money going after the piracy then it would've cost them to make this into a simultaneous release! And the piracy has only spiked as much as it had due to their negligence!
@@priestesslucy3299 he's not wrong dbz is mainly about fighting. That's why the Broly movie better since the whole thing in that was fighting and it had the most popular characters. Also it was a hand drawn unlike this
I think the sales show their failure Of course CGI fears were always going to play a part in it as was the lack of Goku and Vegeta But they didn’t even try Gohan and Piccolo are much more popular overseas than in Japan …. I think. This was the perfect movie to be worldwide but they didn’t … for reasons. Near NO info on global or dubbed releases, barely any trailers or adverts, NOTHING in the games (hell Dokkan has its 2nd biggest celebration of the year a week after the global release of the film and they chose COOLER over Superhero. It’s a damn shame too because not only is this a damn good movie, it’s gonna tell toei “Gohan and Piccolo don’t sell well” and it’s gonna go back to the saiyan show This was the perfect time to get the fans invested in the side characters and they just didn’t care at all.
Dokkan didn't choose anything, it's CLEAR AND OBVIOUS they're not allowed to release the Superhero stuff. And so is Legends. If it was only one of those waiting forever to release the movie stuff you could have some doubts but BOTH games aren't just waiting for the sake of it and hurting their profits this way. Besides Cooler is awesome. More interesting than double, triple or quadruple Gogeta you all would love.
Toei and toriyama would be absolutely idiots to drop gohan just because the movie didn't make as much as broly even though it's still a ginormous success.
Me too I was actually sad to see how long it had been out for in Japan and the marketing was ass I literally watched a Japanese version online and even tho the graphics were garbage I enjoyed it
Toei’s marketing with Super is “hey let’s bring back Frieza, Broly, Cell, make an evil Goku”.. pretty sure if Kid Buu wasn’t Uub they’d bring him back too 😒
Japanese companies are so weird, Toei, Nintendo, Sony, etc. They all miss the mark time and time again and I just don't understand it, the ability to make tons of money is right in front of them but they actively choose to not take it.
@@sharktank8684 Which is ridiculous, even household name brands still advertise (McDonald's, Coke, Disney, etc.). Marketing is how you stay relevant plain and simple, too big to fail is a myth and if you don't let people know about your product then people aren't going to notice it.
They really needed to push Piccolo more. I feel like he is *way* more beloved by western fans compared to the Japanese fanbase, for whichever reason. And after literal decades of being sidelined in everything, Piccolo finally gets to be the hero again and (briefly) catch up with Goku and Vegeta in terms of power, and most of the western fans don't even know about it!
I'm just tired of the recycling, the RR army has been recycled I don't know how many times, the androids, cell, frieza, broly, Bardock, the saiyans (with a lame universal counterpart), why can't they just move on? And it's just making things worse, take OG bardock vs this new bardock story/version. At this point, what's keeping Dragon Ball moving forward is nostalgia amd the old fanbase (I really watch whatever comes out and is Dragon Ball honestly), like Danny says, it has way more potential than what we're getting
I have been a Dragonball fan since 2003, when we got the series in Finland. It all began from the Saiyan saga, all the way through Freeza. Then it stopped. Ever since then I've been a hardcore fan and followed everything that's coming up. Not a single movie has been released in Finland. Not even DBS: Broly. But this evening I was scrolling through Instagram and saw an ad from Sonypictures, promoting DBS Super Hero. So I checked it out. Apparently it's coming to Finnish movietheaters aswell. But if it wasn't that one random ad, I would have said it wasn't coming here. I do admit, I know everything that happens in the film, but if it really is coming to Finnish cinemas, the first Dragonball product ever, I will go see it. I couldn't book tickets to it yet tho. Maybe it's because it's a week away or it will be screened in only some cities. If it's the ladder, I know I wont see it in the cinema because I live in a smaller city. Toei, or the promoters, need to get their shit together. As small country as Finland is, we have hundreds of thousands anime fans who would LOVE to see these movies in the cinema. Toei is losing so much money by not promoting and releasing their movies worldwide.
Yeah I remember watching DBZ when it was showed in Finland (I don't remember did they show all of Buu saga or stopped at Cell?), I've been a fan since (Revenge of Cooler, Path to Power, Fusion Reborn
I'm from the UK. DBS Broly allowed me to introduce the series to my two nephews who are now 9 and absolutely in love with DB. The only way they've known about this film is me telling them. They knew about DBS Broly before even really understanding what DB is. I think for the newest, youngest generation of fans which will be the lifeblood of the franchise going forward its really quite upsetting that Toei doesn't seem bothered.
No amount of marketing can change that terrible animation style decision... I mean, they could spend a fortune on marketing and I wouldn't want to see it even if I was paid to watch it.
Bro the animation is just fine. Not everything will stay 2D forever. They even said they made it CGI to appeal to the newer generation of kids who are probably like 8-13 years old. There is a reason almost every animation in USA is also CGI these days. It's the modern way, and almost no 2D movie can compare in sales.
@@TheOtakuKnownAsWolf Yeah... That's nonsense. Dragon Ball Super: Broly used elements of CGI in combination with the most beautiful 2D animation - 124.6 million at the box office. Similarly Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Mugen Train used mixed techniques and achieved 504 million USD at the box office. This movie with its 17.03 million at the box office looks like a joke. That aside, no CGI-made anime movie comes anywhere close to looking as good as Akira (1988), Ninja Scroll (1993), Ghost in the Shell (1995), Perfect Blue (1997), Vampire Hunter D (1985), Jin Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1999) or Princess Mononoke (1997) with My Neighbor Totoro (1988) and Spirited Away (2001) on top. Even though CGI is more expensive than regular animation it doesn't bring asses into theatre seats, doesn't come close to the classics visually and most of all - anime just doesn't mesh well with that style of animation with action looking sluggish and highly stylised characters sticking out like a sore thumb. Not to mention that Japanese directors proficient in using CGI well are few and far between.
@TheOtakuKnownAsWolf No, it was really bad. 2D is an art style. 3D is an art style. Both of them are different animation styles. Traditional anime is done 2D. Hand drawing. The funny thing about this movie is that it's a 3D animation pretending to be 2D style. You either give me the characters in 3D animation or 2D animation. I'm fine with combining 3D environment and powers, but the characters should be in 2D.
I loved your take on this Geekdom. I agree with everything you said. As a hard core fan of Dragonball I remember when the movie announced a lot of people thought it was a fan film. That's crazy to me.
I personally absolutely love teen Gohan, hated the route he took in adulthood but respected him as a progressing character, I'm happier than he'll for him to have a true, TRUE, next level amp is exciting as well as hopefully this creates and initiative to keep Gohan heavy in the story. Progressing with arcs and fighting regularly.
Not related to the vid, but personally I think they could make Gohan Beast's hair just a bit shorter. I just really don't like how big it is compared to his small head.
Yeah that's true. I really don't understand why they did that. All they had to do was just change the color and give him red eyes. They didn't need to increase the hair length at all.
@@jelmo3682 honestly I like it. Makes him look really cool. They just gotta rename him "beast piccolo" because that noun fits him way more than it does Gohan.
I haven’t watched the video yet, but the shift in the art style from what I personally feel has been the best we’ve seen in the super era in Broly, to the 3D models in this movie, was enough to put me off this movie all together. I know it doesn’t bother some people but for me it just doesn’t look right. I loved the Z art style the most but would be more than happy with the broly art style going forward. As for marketing, I think a lot of Japanese companies miss the mark when bringing media to the west. They haven’t adapted to the wider audience outside of Japan. Dragon ball is massive and could very easily be even bigger than it already is
If we're also being fair here, most people got turned off by the full CG even if it doesn't look bad (until CG anime looks like Tales of Arise and the like, people won't care) and secondly, the fact that the movie was more "lighthearted/slice of life" also screwed everything. 90% of people who watch DB care more about fights than anything else. The recycling arc stuff has already been said so XD
You're right about the people who only care about the fight scenes of Dragon Ball. I encounter some dude who had on a DBZ T-shirt and I could tell you he doesn't look like the type of an actual Dragon Ball fan
Dragon Ball Z Battle of Gods marketing - A celebration to an old franchise making a big return after years of absence. Dragon Ball Z Resurrection F marking - Hyping a well known villain who has been brought back to fold in this franchises new era. Dragon Ball Super Broly marking - Reimagining a fan favorite character and putting all the stops to make it the most eventful movie of the Dragon Ball Super era. Dragon Ball Super Super Hero marketing - CGI animation, new villains involving Red Ribbon, and Gohan has a new form…
I think Toei cut the marketing on purpose with it being a new style of art and the plot revolving around the Red Ribbon Army with Androids again isn't the most appetizing for fans at first glance. With DBS Broly they knew the marketing potential with it's contents canonizing many fan favorites and focusing back to the roots of the Saiyans to give Z fans that satisfaction of the deeper Saiyan lore that's been debated for decades.
I feel like DBS Broly revealed a little too much before the movie actually released but then again that's really common these days unfortunately. It seems like they overcorrected this time for whatever reason
Geekdom did more promoting than toei themselves. a few weeks ago my mom & sister came home from doing the groceries i think, and told me if i knew about the new dragon ball movie and all i said was yeah i know about it it's been out in Japan for a while now. that's how bad the promoting has been for the movie outside of the Internet.
i agree 100 percent he told me about it and the plots and everything and i was okay cool i know but after he stopped talking about i forgot cause there was literally no ADs
@@MotherLover1984 No, Cell was obliterated, so he could be wished back or revived by an angel or something. If Cell ate an hakai then you'd need the Super Dragonballs or Zeno at that point. Still the actual Cell not even in the movie even to just watch the fight was a waste of an opportunity. Cell Max dying like he did was a mulligan for the plot hole that kept Cell from dying from a Kamehameha from Goku back in the Cell Saga and to show off that trash-ass second form Akira likes so much.
To be honest, I'm glad you (and even other people) caught this. When I saw the promotional material for the Broly movie, I was super hyped, and it paid off. But with this movie, I knew something was off. Also, off-topic, but they literally spoiled Gohan's new form in the *CLIMAX* of the film *months* before its release in the US. Granted, it was going to be spoiled either way, and they spoiled Gogeta in the Broly movie before its release as well, but at least that was hype. Here, it just feels...wrong.
I honestly don’t remember ever seeing a Broly trailer when it came out, or even knew it was in the making. I only found out once someone told me they saw it. Spoilers probably isnt the same as marketing, but I saw DB Super Broly fresh without knowing a single thing. I don’t think a lot of people can say that about Super Hero.
A large portion of the fanbase new about dbs broly including me, brother and entire family who don't even watch dragon ball you're just living under a rock lmao
I remember seeing a spam of trailers before it came out in Japan, and I used to live in Brazil at the time. If even they were getting so much promotion, immagine the big industries in USA and countries like that...
My local theater has three showings on premier day in the US.... Demon Slayer and Jujutsu Kaisen was chalk full of showings in my theater. Also Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer had record worldwide sales. One Piece Film Red has had huge receiving in France so far. I have had to dodge spoilers so much for Super Hero that I forgot it was coming out, so so sad.
I was complaining about the western release ever since it came out in Japan, just the fact they waited so long to release it over here kills some of its momentum it shouldn't have been more than a week, I've had tickets for weeks but yea other than the posters at the movie theaters I haven't seen anything else in the media not even whiny sean schemmel promoting it
Preach man! I've literally been thinking this for what feels like forever now. It's so stupid that after broly finally improving the time it takes for a movie like it to release in the US, we've gone backwards again with super hero. This video for me was preaching to the choir on every single point you brought up. I'm so happy you made a video going in on this. At this point, they're just being bone headed. I'm going to cut myself short here because this is one of those topics I can ramble on about for a while.
I cannot remember the last time I've seen an ad or commercial for any anime movies bro I honestly had to sit and think about it it's mind-boggling how cold anime feels over here
A lack of advertising says one thing too me. That they have no faith in this project. Why that is only they know. I think it's because they were actually rather timid about the animation style and started to have regrets, but it's already late in the game.
Facts, I gotta agree with you there that, the marketing is like this because they Had Little faith in the movie and they only wanted to release it as a Test to see if 3D animation would be fine
I remember how dbs broly was so well known that one of my friends who doesn't even watch anime told me about the film, with this movie literally no one apart from the dragon ball Fandom knows about it. Hopefully the next film is marketed better than this film
Nothing do with marketing. I saw the trailer for the movie and like many others the CGI turned me off. You can't go from something like the broly movie then back down to this. Also revisiting the red ribbon army again not very interesting
The only reason I’m hoping DB Super: Super Hero doesn’t do well is so that they don’t get the idea this series should transition into CGI permanently. The movie was fine but I want our classic animation.
I don’t know. In a way I am happy I didn’t hear much about this film. I avoided any trailer besides the first and was PLEASANTLY SURPRISED! It was so refreshing and I do believe the word of mouth will help let alone those that watched it online are really missing out if they didn’t go view it in the theatre yet. Would simultaneous release been better? Sure. Could Toei could have spend more money to market it? Yeah But as it stands, save for the main villain, it is one of the most memorable DB movies I have seen.
Bro everything you said makes sense. The facts, the references, everything made complete sense. By watching this video, I actually FELT your pain. Toei has to do much better or else Dragon Ball is done for 😭😭😭
Should have kept the animation styling of the broly movie. It was amazing tbh. It was innovative enough to for ppl to notice the quality difference but also stayed true to that core classic dbz art style. The cgi wasn't appealing at least personally. Plus the story was lackluster id say. I would have preferred cells actual return. So much they can do with him. For example he has friezas and the saiyans DNA right. Could have had him learn blue somehow or go golden at the same time on that stacked lol. The reunion between gohan and him would have been great.
@@Codyslx the point remains that the fans did not have confidence in cgi whether it got better or not is besides the point there was no confidence which was compounded by a lack of advertising to show the improved cgi
Sucks how they marketed this movie so poorly because I and mamy people personally liked it more than the broly movie overall and thought It was a nice fresh breath of air from Goku and Vegeta always being the main focuses.
@@jasonone8726 did I say otherwise? Most people think super hero is ALMOST as good as broly with SOME people personally liking it more. It all comes down to personal preference.

110% agree, bro! Wtf was up with the 2 month wait?! I didn’t even see posters at my local theater. I just knew it was coming out so of course I was ready for it. The wait was a killer. Dressing up like Vegeta and my son as Goku was something we had planned for those 2 months and we’re just waiting and waiting. There should’ve been commercials, damn it. It’s mind boggling.
The marketing is questionable for this movie and makes no sense why they went this route this time around when DBS Broly did so well. They did a good job with the promo for Film Red. I wish I was a fly on the wall in the Toei office when it came to the marketing plan for DBS Super Heroes.
I think they are Afraid that people will think this is new look for DB and they want to keep things 2d in the future. But western people are very stupid and Japan knows it
I’m an artist and I was vending at an artist alley this past weekend. I’m also a diehard hard-core dragon ball fan. I’ve watched the series in both Japanese in English multiple times. And I was asking people are you excited for this new movie and most people at an anime convention of all places. Didn’t even know the movie was coming out. Like… Wow!!
If by any chance Toei gets from this that Gohan is not a popular character, and they decide to drop him again from the main stage... I'm done with Dragon Ball.
2 things. 1) As I have mentioned on a few of your videos, the modernization of DB (series) has not kept up well when compared to other series. They failed to capitalize off of both DBS Broli and the ToP. Instead of expanding the series into other universes and expanding the story... we got Moro (not bad at 1st) and Granola... both down the Vegeta Goku rabbit hole. Chainsawman, Demon Slayer, etc have far more modern writing and DBS needs to adapt. 2) Gohan is almost Tien 2.0. DBS barely cares about side heroes, but suddenly everyone getting a power boost... but now what. There's been no real explanation let alone path forward. Hopefully Planet Sadala will have a different direction and focus on techniques and fighting prowess than the next power up... Another thing, concerning expansion... they should have Vegeta wish back Planet Vegeta because as the Prince of all Saiyans and through all their ventures, they should be seeking "passing the Saiyan torch" in seeing their species survive and that would allow for endless new Saiyan characters and villains
I disagree with the first point, DBS is DB trying to be a modern shonen with doesn't work that well for the series imo The original Dragon Ball manga is still surprisingly unique even after all those years, seriously if One Piece or any other modern shonen pulled a Saiyan arc Goku vs Vegeta people would be calling the author a genius lol Also bro, Saiyans where evil af lol 😆 I don't think bringing them back its a good idea
@@MotherLover1984 It's like what Geekdom mentioned toward the end of the video. Their approach with the recent movie, and even series, is antiquated, especially considering the Fandom outside of Japan. While DBS initially was trying to be modern DB... they ran down the rabbit hole of the Goku Vegeta show. DBZ at least made use of side characters, even moreso in the movies. Bojack was one of my favorite movies in that everyone had someone to fight and it wasn't about hitting the next powerup. It was do your best with what you have and may the best man win. That kind of storytelling is gravely missing in DBS. We've had 97 power ups with little to no explanation. Even UI has changed like 10 times since it came out... that's messy and poor writing. Let alone characters getting abilities for the sake of having them and they come of no real use... like have any of Vegetas recent skills really done anything. The Saiyans were evil due to Freezas rule, they may have been buttholes but some had a morale compass. Seeing them come back, Vegeta, and essentially Goku showing them what they could become, and developing a story in which we delv into their survival as a race is compelling. A chance to see new techniques and character types. Cross training with U6, new factions, etc. But most importantly showing Vegeta's arc come full circle from tyrant kid prince to Legendary Honorable King seeking to both change the ways of his people and seek their survival. To me it has always been in the back of his mind that while he initially may not care, seeing the powers and abilities he's gained, how that would ring in the back of his head the heights his people could reach under his leadership. Because when he and Goku are gone, essentially so are the full blooded Saiyans.
@@MotherLover1984 they weren’t all evil we have gine and bardock as an example yes bardock invaded planets but that was literally his job that’s how they work lots of them likely aren’t even evil that’s just their nature
I think that the reason why DBS : Super Hero is not getting that much marketing is because Toei Believes ” It’s Dragon Ball, it will work well regardless.” Look at how Dragon Ball Super : Broly’s Marketing work out. It worked TOO well in their favor. So Toei Believes if DBS : Broly work that well marketin, then why do the same thing for the upcoming movie when people are just going to watch regardless?
To be honest I only watch it because of Gohan and Piccolo since I like them both. But yeah it’s really sad and disappointing to see the marketing flopped hard on this movie. Since TOEI constantly spammed CMs for the whole movie which led to it being the whole movie instead. The movie in general feels too rushed I would say, since I get it focuses more on characters than the plot itself. There really isn’t much buildup to the plot I would say and I felt like that’s where they failed the most. Plus there are some parts that just feel forced and doesn’t seem right and at some point I felt pretty annoyed. I could go on forever on how this movie flopped hard but I’ll stop myself here.
Wow Geekdom you absolutely nailed it on all points described in this upload. Well said, hopefully the film will still do well so that we will continue to get dragon ball anime every so often. I miss the days have having super air on RUclips and then tuning in to your review directly afterwards. Happy to see that you are still crushing it with your RUclips channel.
I love these types of comments but I even though I love super (don't attack me for liking super) I just can't bring myself to genuinely like this movie.
I saw both Broly and Super Hero in IMAX (SH literally last night) and the audiences were night and day. Broly was a prize fight in a packed theater, whereas SH was only about 1/3 full. I loved them both for different reasons, but it stung to see SH do as poorly as it did at my screening. Packed theaters means more revenue which means more movies. This feels like a missed opportunity to advance the brand.
Tragic because as a lifelong fan, it was a great movie that EXCEEDED my expectations and was perfect for old school dudes like me and new comers and kids. Honestly forgot it dropped until a friend mentioned it the day of it's release and watched it in IMAX next day. I think anime studios struggle to figure out their international marketing.
People don't read the manga over here because they barely make an effort to bring it over here. it took forever for them to start and now it takes them 2-3 times as long to bring each volume over here as other manga. Hell, remember how long it took to get the dub for DBS going? They were around halfway through the series before the first dubbed episode even aired. They just don't seem to care about pushing DB outside Japan. Broly was the exception, not the norm, when the way it was treated should be the norm.
Do you think it's just possible dragon ball has lost steam? I know it's been poorly promoted but maybe the nostalgia of dragon ball z has worn off abit, and people want a bit of a different story, the content since 2015-2018 really drove in that nostalgia... Goku growing up was a huge part of dragon ball and Gohan growing up is a big part of dragon ball z , i know this movie is about Gohan, pan and piccolo ...but maybe dragon ball just needs a new, slow, fresh direction. It really was at highest hype peak during the tournament of power and Broly.
No the Broly movie was doing gangbusters simply through word of mouth. People were clapping during that movie when something crazy happened even cheering. The CGI for this movie killed it and a less than interesting plot.
nah the movie just wasn´t that good and people don´t like to hear it but Gohan isn´t nearly popular enough for everybody to care...it was a nice thing for gohan and piccolo they gave them some shine but they´d never make numbers like Goku and/or Vegeta as the leading roles
@@hamzamansoor34 the movie was average. Compare to the broly movie it was a failed. It don't matter how much marketing it does if the movie is not that good.
100% agree. I rember back when DBS broly was coming out everyone including my parents of all people knew about it. So its ridiculous that I completely forgot Super hero is coming out next week because of how terribly under promoted it is.
I actually liked this movie over the broly one just a bit more. It really looks like toei thinks the world only cares about goku and vegeta. They have a giant cast of characters in this universe. Wish they did marketing way better :/
The movie flopped because its lame. DBS Broly did great because it was high octane action packed with great animation. I don't want to watch a "slice of life" dragon ball movie about the side characters with 3D animation. Everything about this movie was done wrong.
Dragonball is the most known anime around the world and the fact that they didn’t promote this movie the right way that not everybody knows about it it’s a shame.
I’d say the Pokemon anime is more popular and more well known but it still doesn’t change the fact that DBSSH had very bad marketing. Huge HUGE oversight on Toei’s part especially with the success of the Broly movie
I remember seeing commercials for Ponyo on Nickelodeon a bunch when I was a kid. Outside of that, I don't recall any anime movies being advertised on TV like that.
Dragon ball having jucy story line with slice of life Dragon ball being all in shintani animation Dragon ball exploring it's verse and introducing the path it took with the monkey king Dragon ball showing us something new Dragon ball listening to the fans needs instead of being greedy Dragon ball learning how to market well and do colabs Releasing it's manga early Dragon ball having the vibe that you want to see more than just the "meh vibe " With this dragon ball will just over take the entire anime it won't even be a joke considering the huge fandom and also being 18+ so at least we get more details in the anime and not some kindergarten anime in all u said it all man I pity the ones who gonna label u hater
Honestly it's not just marketing or trailer it was the character design and the story was make this bad and for other people is cgi. For me it's the story and character design.
I didn't even know the movie was a thing until it came out in Japan and DB youtubers started talking about a new gohan transformation. Sadly I also didn't learn about the EU release date until after the movie came out here, so I won't even be able to watch it with my friends until we're all back in the country.
I'm laughing my ass off of people trying to cope with the movie having flopped in this comment section, trying to blame it into it not having been advertised enough in video games. Serves Toei right for thinking that rehashing old Dragon Ball plot points and iconic moments almost one for one is gonna keep working forever. This movie's biggest selling point is that it rips off very iconic moments from Z. Broly's top selling point is the remaking of an old fan favorite character, even the universe survival arc rehashed a lot of Z stuff. Modern Dragon Ball works best when it tries to do new and exciting stuff instead of retreading old ground or trying to cheaply appeal to the nostalgia factor. There's a reason why Battle of Gods was so much better than Ressurection F and why the Super manga is now doing (mostly) its own thing.
I completely agree with you. In truth my only concern is they'll look at this and take the wrong lesson "Oh. I guess we really should only develop Goku and Vegeta and no one else." and learn nothing else from it.
Battle of gods as you said had new stuff a new form new characters and was really cool. the moment i saw his hairstyle i knew it was just gohan vs cell again only worse because cell doesn't talk. i was not really interested in the movie. honestly they should have just gone with super saiyan god gohan because the saiyan ritual was a really cool thing they haven't really retried. also would have given pan another use in the film because she actually exists now. instead they give him another underserved power up so he does not become irrelevant.
Except the marking was awful, especially internationally. Also, the movie’s selling point wasn’t rehashing old plot lines but that it’s main focus was going to focus on more characters than just goku and vegeta. Simply bringing back the red ribbon army isn’t rehashing old plot lines; they’re building off of what was already established. Yeah some scenes are direct copied, I will admit, but for the most part, it’s being it’s own thing. Also also, yeah dragon ball super Broly remade an old fan favorite but it was also considered a good dragon ball movie in general and was praised for taking a poorly written character and giving him an actual personality and character, and outside of Broly himself, the movie had a completely different plot compared to the other movies. Simply taking an already existing concept and expanding upon it isn’t rehashing, that’s like saying the cell saga is ripping of the red ribbon army saga because it features the red ribbon army.
I did see 1 trailer for it when I went to semi-waste my money on Jurassic park. By the showing for Jurassic park at that time was like 13 people including myself.
I think Toei mentioned they weren't gonna market super hero as much as Broly because they said it wouldn't sell as well. Well no shit it won't sell as well but at least put in some effort. DBS Super hero to me is a great movie and will still make millions.
I dont understand how they created such a successful format with the Broly movie and then just threw it away for this new animation and marketing style. I guess they took a risk but why?
They knew the story was just recycled stuff from the Android saga and couldn't really come up with a way to make the trailers interesting or exciting and it got even more depressing when they were trying to find out how to hide cell Max from the public. Then the movie got leaked all over the internet and they were too slow to take all the videos down so they just caved in and showed off cell max and Gohan and piccolo's new forms in that trailer they released at that one event
Let's be real. No one cares about Gohan anymore. If this movie had UI Goku, vegeta and broly on the promotional art. This movie would need barely any more promotion

Wait really, it is coming to Finland!? I have to go see it as well if that is the case, surely they will show it in Helsinki if somewhere.
Yeah I remember watching DBZ when it was showed in Finland (I don't remember did they show all of Buu saga or stopped at Cell?), I've been a fan since (Revenge of Cooler, Path to Power, Fusion Reborn

I think for the newest, youngest generation of fans which will be the lifeblood of the franchise going forward its really quite upsetting that Toei doesn't seem bothered.
No one is going to watch a game cutscene
Would simultaneous release been better? Sure. Could Toei could have spend more money to market it? Yeah But as it stands, save for the main villain, it is one of the most memorable DB movies I have seen.
Completely 100% agree..I've been looking forward this movie for a long time, and even up until today, I forget that the movie is coming out soon.
The reunion between gohan and him would have been great.
the cgi stuff in broly were the worse parts of the movie
and this movie choose to go full cgi
yeah probably a bad idea
It would take away from the less serious nature of the movie

Sucks how they marketed this movie so poorly because I and mamy people personally liked it more than the broly movie overall and thought It was a nice fresh breath of air from Goku and Vegeta always being the main focuses.

Like… Wow!!
It's obviously a cash grab, promoting the film cost time money and effort

Also money doesn't mean a movie is better especially when almost every review for super hero is positive.
I disagree with the first point, DBS is DB trying to be a modern shonen with doesn't work that well for the series imo
The original Dragon Ball manga is still surprisingly unique even after all those years, seriously if One Piece or any other modern shonen pulled a Saiyan arc Goku vs Vegeta people would be calling the author a genius lol
Also bro, Saiyans where evil af lol 😆 I don't think bringing them back its a good idea
@@MotherLover1984 As far as Super goes Saiyans choose to be evil and can always choose to be good.
The marketing showed exactly what I experienced in theaters
It really was at highest hype peak during the tournament of power and Broly.
black arc was cool too
No the Broly movie was doing gangbusters simply through word of mouth.
People were clapping during that movie when something crazy happened even cheering.
The CGI for this movie killed it and a less than interesting plot.
nah the movie just wasn´t that good and people don´t like to hear it but Gohan isn´t nearly popular enough for everybody to care...it was a nice thing for gohan and piccolo they gave them some shine but they´d never make numbers like Goku and/or Vegeta as the leading roles
bruh they just need to make a good movie like with broly and thats it
My theater was empty empty. It was an amazing time though. I wonder if when the dub drops it'll have more marketing.
Even if the marketing was amazing, I'm still not about to pay modern theater money for a cg anime movie, Dragonball or not.

Dragon ball having jucy story line with slice of life
Dragon ball being all in shintani animation
Dragon ball exploring it's verse and introducing the path it took with the monkey king
Dragon ball showing us something new
Dragon ball listening to the fans needs instead of being greedy
Dragon ball learning how to market well and do colabs
Releasing it's manga early
Dragon ball having the vibe that you want to see more than just the "meh vibe "
With this dragon ball will just over take the entire anime it won't even be a joke considering the huge fandom and also being 18+ so at least we get more details in the anime and not some kindergarten anime in all u said it all man I pity the ones who gonna label u hater
And these multi-million dollar companies wonder why ppl watch everything on free sites.
Honestly it's not just marketing or trailer it was the character design and the story was make this bad and for other people is cgi. For me it's the story and character design.
With comments like these I wonder what you guys even want from the series.
The CGI was also a huge turnoff.
That’s been the Dragon Ball movie formula since the beginning really (rehashing plots with dashes of something new).
Imagine if the movie had the animation of DBS Broly
Geekdom said everything perfectly 🙌🏾🔥❤️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
toei was probably like "Oh dragon ball is famous we don't need to market it for people to watch it." that's not how it works toei.
Toei is objectively a BAD Japanese company.
Its heavy CGI, its a sub-character story, most likely low budget = cash grab.
The cgi isn't low budget. I've seen the movie in a live string. Very high quality cgi which is why it sucks that the movie is failing.
this video didn't age well because the movie broke records and was the number 1 movie for the weekend in America
This video hasn't aged well at all
I dont understand how they created such a successful format with the Broly movie and then just threw it away for this new animation and marketing style.

Aren't you the flagger that said this movie reminded you of Infinity War??? lmaoooo get real dude i saw this movie and it was mid. The REAL reason this movie isn't getting the hype you want so you can make a million videos and grow your barely getting 50,000 views but has over 700k subs channel is because its a movie no one asked for. Why not make a movie base on Moro or maybe a Cooler movie, instead we get a villain that just wasn't it and has no interest whats so ever among fans. Also want to add that Gohan and Piccolo are NOT enough to carry or promote a movie. Its been well documented that Goku and Vegeta are barely in this movie so of course the interest isn't gonna be there. Don't blame the marketing and don't act like this is an amazing Dragon Ball movie everyone should go see because its not.
