Deangelo Carter Like 46% of Shippuuden was filler. Over a third of the first series was filler. And then compared to the other behemoth One Piece, which has 851+ episodes, has only slightly around 100 episodes of filler. Dragon Ball tends to have about five filler episodes in-between arcs. Sometimes we get a few in the middle of the series, but the amount of filler episodes is very low.
Did you notice that the guy that wrote the article claimed that Piccolo fused with Kami first THEN fused with Nail later on? Did he even watch the series?
This was well thought out for looking at DBZ without the rose tinted glasses. The before the Saiyan fights and other world tournament fillers was good. The focus on few characters was spot on though Tien and Krillin held their own throughout the series. The dying aspect is so true towards the end
In all honesty, Dragon Ball as a franchise isn't particularly good in almost any aspect. Character writing is generally bad and inconsistent with a few exceptions (Like Vegeta, and also Gohan until after the Cell saga.) Comedy is also almost exclusively Goku being dumb or cheap slapstick. Stories are usually extremely simple, sometimes even feeling contrived, where the main villain is defeated almost easily because of a lucky shot or a power up. Not to mention plot holes and retcons are a dime a dozen. The show is so successful for two reasons. One, the action scenes (especially early on) were amazing, and enjoyable. From a child's perspective, Dragon Ball's action is awe inspiring and every child wanted to be able to do that more than anything else. The other reason is because it is really just dumb fun. It is enjoyable to sit down and watch something, simple and almost thoughtless and intense action. It's fun, and that's why I love Dragon Ball so much.
@@imsexisttoair9877 thats like starting naruto at shippuden. If you dont like it thats fine but it is the first half of DB as a whole, the manga is called dragon ball even in the Z half for a reason
The Driver License episode is one of the Best Fillers I've seen in Anime Period! The idea of Goku and Piccolo learning to drive is Fucking Hilarious! 😂😂😂 I wished Vegeta was there with them, it would have made a Very Interesting episode IMO.
I AM THE PRINCE OF ALL SAIYANS! I SHALL NOT HAVE TO BE INSTRUCTED BY AN INSUFFERABLE WEAKLING LIKE YOU! NOW OF YOU EXCUSE ME, I HAVE TO SHOW KAKAROT WHO IS THE STRONGEST!
I don't get why people think Gohan is lame. He has a good education, a good job, a smart, loyal and cute wife, his daughter, a lot of friends to support him. But apparently he is a "loser" and "joke" because he isn't as strong as he used to be and he dressed up like a goof for a few episodes. The afterlife is pretty sweet? Don't only special people keep their bodies while normal people just become these little spirit clouds? Though in the Buu saga, Bulma and Chi-Chi become cliche ghosts... Whis can revive the dead, but i don't think he'll do it all the time.
He's considered lame in the context of the story, since every character in this series is judged by their battle power. If Dragon Ball was a slice of life series, Gohan would be considered a wonderful character as he is now.
Look at him when he beats Cell vs. Today, there is your answer. All the potential in the world to be the strongest Z fighter out there, but instead he'd rather study. In an anime about fighting, that's not very cool lol
Dr Briefs does have a collection of dirty magazines though, there's a joke in Dragon Ball where Bulma accidentally takes his capsules instead of hers, and when she opened them they were full of them
That's actually a good source to relay on (other than kanzenshu),shows how much geekdom is the saving grace for the community when it's comes to information.
While there are some incorrect points this isn't trash like Screen rant. They don't even care about correct info all they want is to have as many clicks as possible. Screen Rant is what youtube use to be in its earlier years.
Dude the “fact” Roshi being a pervert doesn’t hold up the series is so counter productive he’s been like that the ENTIRE series if anything it helps hold it up
anime series wouldnt be good if they immediately start another arc and all of a sudden the universe is in peril every damn episode lol. People complaining about filler are annoying most of the time.
anyone who takes shots at big anime are just looking for clout end of story and views/readers/attention...db naruto one piece would not be as big as they are if they did not have mass appeal right?..exactly...so stfu people...take shots at bad shows
I got my friend (he's 30) to finally watch through DB/DBZ and through Super as it aired, and he's convinced it's the best Anime he's ever seen. Maybe a rare example, but it certainly held up for him.
I do remember DBZ with my nostalgia helmet on. I've tried re-watching it lately and I almost can't because of all the re-releases and weird dubbing. Apparently Saban/Ocean Group was responsible for dubbing what I remember to be the Saiyan/Namek saga but then FUNimation re-released it with scenes never seen before in the U.S. and a new dub but then you have the orange bricks which suck and then you have a Level Sets which are superior but were discontinued and now the blu-rays which are ok but not as good at the level sets but then you have all this filler that Ocean Group removed. It's all just kinda weird. I remember it differently and its certainly harder to get back into now that I have the means to actually watch all 291 episodes.
I have my own thoughts about Whis being able to resurrect people: He did that to Freeza because it was a gift from Beerus for doing well in the tournament. I have a feeling that if Goku were to approach Whis and ask him to revive one of his friends, he would be turned away and there would be nothing he could do. Beerus and Whis are to remain neutral, they're not exactly friends like everyone else is. I believe he'd say something like this: "I'm sorry Goku, but reviving Freeza was a one-time thing. I cannot be bringing everyone from the dead all willy-nilly just because you're my student. If you want them back, you'll have to do it the hard way."
Having a 20 + year old show still being memmed to death just illustrates how the show still holds and is still relevant today . The writer really contradicted themselves in that last piece.
As much as I love the Z portion of Dragon Ball it saddens me that the early part of the series doesn't get any shine. You can tell most of the people who write these articles have never read the early Manga or watched the old school anime.
The worst filler in DBZ is padding out episodes with long pauses. I love how Samurai Jack uses silence to add tension, but DBZ abuses it and it made me SKIP the Freeza saga until after I played Budokai.
tbh I stopped watching Z during frieza vs goku because of the constant switch to bulma and whatever was not related to the fight. It absolutely destroyed the pacing to me that I had to switch to the manga. I will go back to it tho, can't miss the anime cell saga
These lists are so stupid! The writers don't even know what they're talking about, and yet we're supposed to take them seriously when they right "real news".
You need all the side characters to show who you and vageta are fighting for and even if death doesn't matter and the afterlife is sweet you still dont want to see those relationships broken apart. It's kinda like all the characters are one big family and you want to see those filler moments where they are all happy and living life.
Every time you upload no matter how my day has gone it puts a smile on my face... I love dragon ball before I knew of your channel... and I’ve loved it even more since I’ve found your channel.... long time subscriber here. Long live Dragon Ball
It is true that alot of the characters became redundant when there was no reason for it. Piccolo was an alien like the saiyans, they could have kept creating ways for him to keep up (and did for a while). Tien and Krillin should have kept up better too since they had no issues keep up all the way until the later half of the cell saga- yeah they are human... but so what?... that never stopped them becoming more powerful then galatic overlord Frieza at his namek saga power- when he killed ALL saiyans bar a handful... making Tien and Krillin stronger then ALL saiyans, namekians and humans, again bar a handful. There was no need to just suddenly decide they can't keep up now. Also they had the oppertunity to make 18 the first female z-fighter, again she could have even kept up with the main squad if they wanted and started an an unbelievably high power level so they didn't need to cover any of the 'working her way up to being strong'. She started strong, and came into the series at a time where she was inbetween all the other fighters in terms of strength. They did this again with Majin Buu. Well super did. Buu could have been an awesome member of the Z-fighters and potentially the only one truly capable of passing the saiyans without the need to fuse, transform or whatever because naturally Buu was at a level even the God's would fear- Broly was born with a power level of 10,000, buu was born with power level above 1 billion lol. But instead of becoming stronger, becoming a main fighter or anything useful, he was used as bait to show how strong Beerus is, then as a gag-character always sleeping when danger comes knocking (except one little exhibition match... which was really cool.. but not cool enough because Frieza replaced him...)

Gohan is dead to me in the super manga with this one line " I'm Relying on my human half rather than my saiyan blood" Even though his saiyan half gives him power and relevance humans have been outclassed since king piccolo arc
@@jcfrostycheesebugga8681 thats definitely true but 17 is still a human. Hes one of the top 10 non god or angel fighters in all the universes. Even though he is enhanced he still trained to become better. Hell 5 1/2 of the universe 7 team was human.
My problems with DBZ (not necessarily Kai, it fixed a lot of stuff): 1. the English translation is bad. 2. A lot of the filler. I know it was mandatory at the time because the manga wasn't finished, but looking at it today it just feels dumb 3. Most of the cast becoming obsolete. This is the biggest problem in the series imo, the series revolving more and more around the Saiyans with every non-saiyan becoming completely useless. Even the once-terrifying androids became fodder in just one arc. 4. Tying into the previous one, the power escalation. I know it's a common thing in this sort of manga/anime, but I personally don't like how fast it happened in Z, especially when it meant the old favorite characters had to bite the dust as a result 5. It started to be all about the power level. The concept of defeating a more powerful foe with cunning and strategy died out soon after Raditz was defeated, and didn't really return until the Tournament of Power, and that just felt really lame to me, that smart guys like Piccolo were helpless against the mindless brutes, unless they happened to get a power boost and become stronger than the brute, at which point no strategy was needed
Great saiyaman is great! No pun intended. 90% of Dbz filler is good. The original funimation dub is horrible and the dubs before that are worse. Kai was better in every way except music.
Celtic Guardian I really liked the original funimation dub the dialogue wasn't perfect but the music and charm it had makes me like it also I felt you could hear the freshness of the voice actors acting.
Celtic Guardian their voices suck in the Kai dub, the original Funimation dub is by far better.. go back and watch Vegeta's speech to supreme Kai, or to Android 19
About the Kai intro, yes some of the dragon soul singer's didn't quite sound right (I think Sean Shemels version was actually pretty well sung). Vic's is the best hands down. It's most likely why his version is the one Nicktoons used to broadcast for the whole duration when it was on TV
13:43 The guy who wrote the article states that he fuses with Kami early on in the series but then later fuses with Nail (couldn't be a typo, he outright says “...his counterpart, Kami...”), yet he fused with Nail in the second (or third, if you count Ginyu Force, Dodoria, etc. as a different arc from when it was just Frieza), then later fuses with Kami in the next arc.
Dragon Ball Z will ALWAYS hold up. ALWAYYSSS, It IS the undiputsted Godfather of all action manga/anime. There would be no Naruto, One piece, Bleach and many more without Dragon Ball. Yes you have your yu yu hakusho, ruroni kenshin, Saint Seya, fist of the North star, sailermoon and all those older greats but none if those IMO held a candle to Dragon Ball and DBZ and its glory. Im a hugeee Dragon Ball fan because it to me is the most simplistic and purest form of what a shounen jump action manga is supposed to be.
Video Game Fighter he didn’t say that a shonen manga cant be complex He said he liked it because it’s a very simple version of what a shonen action manga is
Old dbz was amazing. Nothing beats vegeta famous quotes . “Does a machine like yourself ever experience fear” also the rock music in the movies. The broly movie . Omg that music used for that movie was perfect
I actually like it more now as an adult. I was a teenager when it first aired I didn't care much for it honestly. Then I grew a huge love for stories with a huge history and mythology like lord of the rings and harry potter. Then when super came out I really got into it and went back and watched z from the beginning. Absolutely loved it.
Okay, Geekdom. I gotta point out some shit with your vid here. I love you, but I'm sorry. I just gotta speak up on some shit here. It's gonna be a long one, but just bare with me on this one: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1.) If the Great Saiyaman was like a Side-Story Movie or something instead of an Actual Filler Arc, it would have probably held up a lot better than it does right now. But it offers legit NOTHING to the story. 2.) Geekdom, I don't think you're fully understanding what filler is. Filler is something that offers NOTHING to the story whatsoever and is just put in for the sake of padding. Where you could legit take those arcs out of the story completely and it wouldn't change a damn thing in the story itself. If so-called "Filler" episodes / arcs actually cause Character Development, then that's not filler at all. Great Saiyaman, for example, is 100% Filler. You could take it out of DBZ entirely and absolutely nothing would change. Even the Driver's License episode, contrary to people's beliefs is NOT filler. Because it helps establish the fact that Goku simply cannot integrate with Human Society. As trivial as it seemed, it did have a purpose for it. With that said, while I have seen A LOT WORSE (Naruto / Bleach / Fairy Tail), Dragon Ball Z DOES in fact have a lot of filler that DBZ Kai did cut back on. The Fight Scenes are far better paced and don't take 3 episodes to power-up / charge-up special attacks anymore. But the original Dragon Ball Z anime before Kai came along had A LOT of Filler to it. 3.) That point is 100% True. Characters like Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaozu all get shafted heavily and are only theree for just cheering Goku on for the most part. They barely get any time to shine. Hell, the Tournament of Power was a breath of fresh air for a few of them on this problem, but even that had it's own set of enormous problems, be that as it may. 4.) This is somethign that's 100% true. After the Namekian Dragon Balls were moved to earth, that was the final nail in the coffin to where Death is now officially nothing more than a Minor Inconvenience. Even DBZ Abridged makes fun of this fact in the Broly Movie. It's almost a meme at this point of how little death matters in Dragon Ball Z. 5.) The majority of villains in Dragon Ball Z aren't really that well-written to begin with, Geekdom. To this day, the Best Villain in all of Dragon Ball Z is still Frieza. Cell and Buu are so 1-Dimensionally Flat you can cut them with a knife. Don't gemme wrong, Frieza is fairly 1-Dimensional as well, but the difference here is the execution in his character. Frieza's actions that he did in DBZ actually MADE SENSE in terms of storytelling. Cell and Buu, this is not the case at all. They just wanted to destroy shit because "Fuck You, I'm Powerful." They weren't trying to conquer anything, they were just destroying shit for the sake of destroying shit. Frieza had way more backing and reasoning to the evil things he did, and still does even now. So yeah, he's completely right. 6.) Tell that to much better-written stories out there; such as the Persona Series, Geekdom. ALL Characters, even the side ones, get development. That's how you flush out the world more. Give people personality, even the underdogs. 7.) Yes. We all know the original DBZ English Dub (Funimation, not Ocean) is trash. The DBZ Kai dub is 100 times better in terms of accuracy. 8.) DBZ Kai basically fixed the Pacing Problems that the original Dragon Ball Z. But the fact that you defend the Super Saiyan Transformations becoming useless as a "Shonen Trope" is just laughable, bro. Just because something is a Trope, doesn't mean it should automatically get a Pussy-Pass for it if that trope in question just so happens to be a BAD Trope that is not only a massive cliche at this point, but also not even CONSISTENT within Dragon Ball as a whole; Post-Frieza Arc. 9.) You're legit defending Super's Half-Assed Retcon of the Potaras again? Geekdom, please. Everyone knows that was a pointless retcon that was done for plot convenience in Super. I am almost willing to bet money they had to come up with that reason because Toriyama just forgot about what Potara was established to be in the past. You give Toriyama FAR too much leeway, dude. You really do. 10.) Becoming a Self-Parody is not a good thing if the series still expects you to take it seriously. Which is exactly what DBZ did starting w/ the Buu Arc. That's basically a double-standard going on there. Doing goofy shit that completely shits all over the original tone and established plot-elements, and yet still demanding you to take what's happening seriously. You can't have it both ways. 11.) Okay, so we're in agreement that Senzu Beans are a plot-device. Cool! 12.) Going back to the Self-Parody problem that the Buu Arc dived DBZ into, the Fusion Dance being as goofy as it is further justifies this. When you've gotten to a point where your characters have gotten this powerful and shit's going down to where galactic genocide is a threat with the main villain, goofy shit like that just throws the tone out of whack yet again. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With all that said, Geekdom: I still love your channel. You're a living, breathing, walking, talking encyclopedia of all that is Dragon Ball. But at the same time, I still think you look the other way FAR too much with some of the bullshit that Toriyama does with his way of writing. Just because a writer is very popular doesn't mean you should hold them on a pedestal and give them pussy-passes for bad writing. If anything, you should hold that person accountable even MORE, since you'd wanna make sure that person CONTINUES to keep their quality of writing GOOD and not drop the ball.
1. No, Great Saiyaman is awesome. Those episodes of Gohan adjusting to high school life while secretly fighting crime were moments of slice of life gold. He's goofy as hell, but that's Toriyama humor for you. 2. By that logic, Naruto, Inuyasha, and Bleach won't hold up well either because they have too much filler as well, and they're even worse about managing it than DBZ is. 3. That's also the case with Naruto, as the Konoha 11 (even Hinata) really mean fuck all to the story as it progresses. In Dragon Ball, if you ain't Saiyan, you ain't shit. In Naruto, if you ain't Uchiha or a Jinchuriki, you ain't shit. 4. Ok, death is a joke in the series, especially in later arcs. However, that doesn't necessarily mean the content of the story hasn't aged well. 5. Well, that's how escalation works in long running shonens. In Naruto, Zabuza is powerless to any of the Akatsuki, and any of them are powerless to Madara. In One Piece, Arlong is powerless to Rob Lucci, and he's powerless to Doflamingo. So, this is a moot point. 6. That's true, the afterlife is rather sweet compared to other depictions of it, but that doesn't have anything to do with this show aging well or not. 7. You're repeating your 3rd point with this one. 8. The Ocean and Funimation dubs of DBZ are outdated as hell. They're from a time period when dubbing anime wasn't taken as seriously, and the dubs focused on being too comedic and made too many liberties with the source material. Yes, you can watch the sub instead, but the sound quality is shit. Funimation has gotten much better at dubbing anime since then, and DB Kai is a far superior dub to DBZ, so it helps it hold up much better. 9. Kind of a repeat of your 5th point, but DBZ does get a bit too out of hand with it, and that especially made worse by them assigning numbers to power levels. For context, Goku got a zenkai boost that raised his power level from 90,000 to 3,000,000. That is definitely an outdated way to measure strength and was dropped after the Namek Saga and later shonen series don't use this for power scaling. 10. No, not really. There are no plot holes with Namekian fusion or the Fusion Dance. As for Potara Fusion, I wouldn't use Geekdom's explanation of the retcon in Super because that was not in Toriyama's thought process of writing the story back in the 90s, that's a hand wave he decided to go with 20 years later. Why say the fusion is permanent when you know you're gonna bullshit your way out of it a few chapters later? However, that has nothing to do with DBZ holding up. 11. Poor use of a picture of Piccolo's regeneration because you're talking about senzu beans. And yes, they are used as a crutch too often, which can ruin the drama at times, so I agree. 12. That's Toriyama for you. He's primarily a comedy writer, so he will poke fun at his own work from time to time. But that's not necessarily a bad thing and has nothing to do with DBZ holding up. 13. By that logic, virtually every anime ever doesn't hold up well. Old perverts are very common. 14. I am so sick and tired of everyone confusing Mr. Popo with blackface or saying Toriyama's racist for it. Jynx from Pokémon also went through this, and now Ash dressed as a Passimian is being accused off this as well. The caricature Mr. Popo represents is outdated, but who give a shit? That doesn't hurt the rest of the show. American need to calm the fuck down and not get so offended by dumb shit that the creators meant no harm with. 15. That's Toriyama humor for you. Modern anime do goofy shit as well, look at Luffy's Gear Fourth. Goofy shit does not equal outdated shit. 16. What isn't memed nowadays? What does that have to do with the show itself? Look at Infinity War. Spider-Man's "I don't feel so good" moment was a sad scene of that movie, and it was quickly memed to death, but that doesn't mean the scene isn't sad. I really thing you're grasping at straws with this one. Overall, this guy is full of shit and didn't know what the fuck he was talking about in that article.
Most of this is like "that's Toryama humor for you," like stuff like that doesn't disuade anything. I don't think mentioning shows as old as DBZ that could also be considered dated is a good counter point either
@@SmartAlec1 3/16 point did he mention "Toryiama humor", so barely any and in some cases it is justified to use "Toyiama humor" so you point with he/she is invalid if you actually thought about it instead of grasping at straws, oh and btw it does dissuade points for example the Mr.Popo thing it was actually a reference to japanese mythology (Toryiama humor) not black face and this fact does actually disproves the "racism" and your point in which saying "using shows just as old as DBZ isn't a good counter argument" is actually extremely stupid, in your logic BRINGING UP THE MOST THRIVING ANIME and COMPARING it to DBZ isn't a good counter argument?!?!?! What you literally realizing that in a article saying that DBZ isn't holding up it's a extremely good argument to bring up animes that ARE HOLDING UP and COMPARING IT TO DBZ is a completely valid argument you just either pulling straws, or you have no clue what your saying.
You tell me I'm grasping at straws and then criticize me about a point I didn't even fucking make (the popo bullshit I didn't talk about)? Makes sense.
Gardetrace you’re entire argument to be honest was pretty trash, the entire thing was comparing it to naruto, how the hell do you know he doesnt think naruto holds up also because pf those reasons?
I must be just straight up weird, because I found out recently that people hated the Garlic Jr. saga, and loved the driver's license episode. I was the opposite. Loved the Garlic Jr. saga; it gave the weaker characters some exposition rather than being straight up useless the entire show, but the driver's license episode was just pointless. I definitely don't hate it, but I felt it was one of the weaker filler episodes.
@@kjbroadway9557 Lets say i wanted to share my opinion that I find kai much more enjoyable than the original, i would normally get slammed with "kaitard, original is best, Bruce Faulconer made DBZ, Kai cant live up to the original, etc" Thats what i mean. I find most of these comments on facebook, but thats what i mean. Kinda gets annoying after a while.
About the "Everyone old is a pervert" There is a huge problem with some people who, believe that anime fans are also perverts because of over sexualisation in anime. This type of thinking about us anime fans is very frustrating. How to solve this issue ??
How to solve the issue? By not give a damn about them and hand them some tissue. Sexualisation itself is not the problem. Same with extreme violence, blood and gore most anime also have, because then anime fans would also be considered future killers if that's the case. Never let those type of people get to you because certain people are just sensitive, insecure snowflakes.
Who cares? Actual anime fans enjoy anime for what it is. Hence "anime" fans. Oversexualization is a term used by people who don't like the sexuality and want to demonize it. Don't worry about it. It doesn't take a detective to see that's just anime and the people who love it are privy to that. If you're actually an anime fan and people finding out that you watch anime embarrasses you for that reason, the problem is neither with you nor those people (and it's obviously not with anime lmao). The problem is with your insecurity in tandem. On the other hand, you can just tell them, and this might very well apply to you, that you're not really in the community and you're not an "anime fan". You just watch and like a decent number of shows for the same exact reason that anyone might.
Actually it's Bentley from the first (and currently last) Sly Cooper movie trailer a few years ago. Whats weird about that movie is that they haven't really given a lot of news or details since.
The Faulconer score isn't that great to be honest. It has great fight music and great themes for the characters. I love the cell, vegeta, & piccolo themes. BUT, those cringe worthy idling themes are bad.
@drewpamon It’s a cartoon none of these characters are real and you acting like you are “right” is hypocritical. The whole world is fucked and I’m pretty sure you’ve done little to nothing to actually help, so stop acting so self righteous. You’re being over dramatic about a trope that almost every anime follows cause it’s a running gag and it’s not even real, so it’s a waste of time to even get salty and be a little snowflake about it.
You know how I know Dragon Ball Z still holds up after all these years? I didn't watch Dragon Ball at all until last year at the age of 25 and I loved it! I was expect a shlocky show with over the top action and it turned out to have fantastic characters that I love and care about. Villains that made me hate in all the right ways I got pumped seeing them get beaten. And the show helped me stay motivated to exercise in time where I was struggling to change into healthier habits. It absolutely holds up.
Animeforlife I don’t usually insult people but you are stupid if you think that. DBZ in terms of fan base, money , sales, popularity, influence to anime culture, is EASILY top 3.
I can't be the only one who loves his Debunk videos lol like I see these articles an I think "I wonder if Geekdom well do a video on this" then I TRY to debunk them too. Most of the times within a few days of me seeing the article there's a video about it lol
Unpopular opinion: dragonball was overall a pretty mediocre series and is masked my a cloud of nostalgia Unpopular opinion 2: Super relies too heavy on past villains, retellings, and tournaments making it a pretty lack luster addition to the franchise.
@@pademelon2216 When it comes to characters dragon ball (especially z) does an exellent job in making well written characters. Vegeta is the prime example of this and is among the best written characters of all time, only surpassed by Zuko in my opinion.
@@pademelon2216 i have only watched season 1 of GoT so i have little knowledge of the characters from that show. In my opinion Vegeta is still the 2nd best character that i know of. I understand why his opinion of SSJ Goku changed. At first he hated Frieza more than anything in the world. And the thought of Frieza beeing defeated and humiliated like Vegeta himself was probably thrilled him. Even tho he didn't like Goku (he already became jealous of him when he saw how easily he defeated the Ginyus) his wish of seeing Frieza defeated was far greater than his wish of not beeing surpassed by Goku. After Frieza had been defeated his priorities drastically changed. Since Frieza wasnt a concern anymore he now wished to seek this awesome power that had defeated the almighty Frieza. How Goku a low class saiyan had achieved this power was infuriating. For so long Vegeta wanted to be best and his biggest obstacle to achieve this goal was Frieza. However now that Frieza was out of a way he still wasnt the best. A low class Saiyan had taken his place. To summarize it his jealosy of Goku was smaller than his hate for frieza, now that Frieza was dead Goku was his next concern. Also in the early cell/android arc Vegeta didn't seem that much jealous of Goku, it was more about Vegetas wish of becoming a super Saiyan. He wasnt jealous of Goku for a short while after Vegeta had becomne a Super Saiyan. However how Trunks said that they should wait for Goku must have made Vegeta jealous. And when Goku had surpassed Vegeta post HTC must have been when Vegeta really must have started to become jealous. After the Cell saga Vegeta gave up, he was depressed and feelt humiliated. However everyone can feel that you have to give up sometimes only to change your mind and work hard again. The fact that Vegeta changed his mind about training is natural human behavior. Vegeta had a family and now that Goku was gone his family was his greatest concern. However then Goku returned for one day. Vegetas old lust for beeing the best was revived. Gohan had becomne rusty and once again Goku was the only one contesting him to be the best. And in the tournament he got his chance to become the strongest again. Fast forward to the fight with Yakoon and Vegeta could feel the immense power of Goku as he defeated Yakoon. Vegeta then realised that once again Vegeta was no match for Goku, once again he had been surpassed by Goku. Vegeta had been defeated many times, but he allways ended up surpassing his rivals, but not Goku. Now matter how hard he tried Goku allways ended up surpassing Vegeta. Vegeta the prince of all saiyans that achieved so much power allways had to watch this low class surpass him. Then he got one opportunity. As dark as it was he could allow himself to be controlled by babidi to so that he could gain enough power to surpass his arch-rival. However his family was still an issue. Vegeta has started enjoying a life of mediocracy when he should have focused his efforts on becoming a mighty warrior rather than beeing a family man. But he didn't have the heart to give up his family, but with babidis help he could release himself from these chains. So he gave in to Babidi, surrendering love in exchange for strength and power. Sorry for writing such a long essay, but these are reasons as to why i believe that Vegeta is such a masterfully written character.
I'm with you on the Great Saiyaman. I hated him as a kid. I hated Hurcule/Mr. Satan as a kid too. Now he's one of my favourite characters. While Filler isn't always bad, the biggest issue with DBZ filler is often its placement. It was often so obviously stalling and dragged out a story horribly as rather than continuing with the story you were invested in. The afterlife in Dragon Ball is weird. It's implied when Goku died that he wouldn't have had a body if it wasn't for Kami taking his dead body to Yamma. But this is more-or-less forgotten about as the series goes on.
Bringing up the Kai dub one moment really stuck out to me as an oversight. It's on Namek when they introduce Dende to Blooma Dende mentions his Namekian brothers and sisters, then immediately doesn't understand two kinds of Namekians. So which is it? Do you have Namekian brothers AND sisters or do you only have one kind of Namek? If you want to know why I used the name Blooma instead of Bulma check out Mistaire Fusion's Dragon Ball Disection.
Interesting bit about the over 9000 meme. Was made by a friend of a friend of mine in California while I was in High School. They were previous graduates of my High School just laughing it up with games and anime while working. He was actually copyright struck by Funimation which kind of killed his enthusiasm for making more like over 9000 / Balls are Inert | Pants pocket / Body cant handle it etc etc. I still laugh about it all being made on Windows Movie Maker. I dont remember his name anymore but his old "handle". My friend was JohnyTsunamix (silent x) and his friend was Kajet to me but I guess his online handle is Kajetokun, which where one can find the original videos after funimation decided to chill out.
So here's the question though. Frieze was resurrected as a gift from Beerus, because he helped them win the tournament. If Goku just died in a fight, and wasn't trying to do something to help the gods, would Whis step in? Maybe? He did in the RoF arc but not in the Future Trunks arc.
GENERALYOUSIF Dende becoming guardian of earth was filler all that getting ready for the androids was filler getting ready for Napa and Vegeta was filler the trip to namek was filler. things go on in filler that still have to do with the story plot its not all bullshit Gohan going to school was filler that without he would not have met Videl who is now his wife
I remember back in the back that is was DBZ, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Yu Yu Hakusho were once upon a time the Big5 of anime. By the way, no character has pissed me off in DBZ more than the great sayaman. That episode when Videl fought Spopavich and Gohan just stood there getting angry, but not doing a damn thing.
Goku and Piccolo getting their Drivers liscence was literally one of the best episodes in DBZ

“So much filler”
Yeah tell me that until you watch all of Naruto fillers
Deangelo Carter Like 46% of Shippuuden was filler. Over a third of the first series was filler.
And then compared to the other behemoth One Piece, which has 851+ episodes, has only slightly around 100 episodes of filler.
Dragon Ball tends to have about five filler episodes in-between arcs. Sometimes we get a few in the middle of the series, but the amount of filler episodes is very low.
Jin Jusuke Bleach had filler arcs in the normal arcs. In the Heuco Mundo arc they were suddenly doing another arc.
ah I see fellow weebs in the chat
Jin Jusuke and dragon ball z filler is ACTUALLY GOOD

This was well thought out for looking at DBZ without the rose tinted glasses. The before the Saiyan fights and other world tournament fillers was good. The focus on few characters was spot on though Tien and Krillin held their own throughout the series. The dying aspect is so true towards the end
Well, not that Ranker is any better. Certainly not this Stephen Roget guy who wrote this article. Terrible points except for like one or two of them.
Dragon Ball Z definitely holds up even if people think it's not a good anime. It is one of the most influential anime in history and thats undeniable.

Sricharan Duvvuri completely agree man well said

I don't get why people think Gohan is lame. He has a good education, a good job, a smart, loyal and cute wife, his daughter, a lot of friends to support him. But apparently he is a "loser" and "joke" because he isn't as strong as he used to be and he dressed up like a goof for a few episodes.
The afterlife is pretty sweet? Don't only special people keep their bodies while normal people just become these little spirit clouds? Though in the Buu saga, Bulma and Chi-Chi become cliche ghosts...
Whis can revive the dead, but i don't think he'll do it all the time.
He'd also have to go to the afterlife to revive the body and it's highly unlikely he does that since he's a neutral character.
He's just really erratically written and so it's really jarring.
@@DrVanNostrand01 This exactly! I wouldn't mind Gohan growing up to be successful in life, it's just the extreme change to the other end.

What's better Got or DBZ?
I gotta admit, I'm addicted to Geekdom podcasts, I listen to them all the time in my off time at work.

Watching you tear these lists to shreds brings me happiness. I look forward to these videos.
Doesn’t hold up my ass. I still rewatch the series often.
The voice of geekdom101... Doing a podcast?... Im hurt not by your choice to do a podcast... But by not knowing sooner and missing two geekdom podcasts as soon as they came out! Gohan is dead to me in the super manga with this one line " I'm Relying on my human half rather than my saiyan blood" Even though his saiyan half gives him power and relevance humans have been outclassed since king piccolo arc
What about the Farmer? He was going toe to toe with Raditz
But they arent outclassed. 17 was damn near ssb level. He and 18 are still human
With Cybernetic enhancements and 17 was training gohan was at school when has school matter in dragon ball
@@jcfrostycheesebugga8681 thats definitely true but 17 is still a human. Hes one of the top 10 non god or angel fighters in all the universes. Even though he is enhanced he still trained to become better. Hell 5 1/2 of the universe 7 team was human.

Naruto has a year worth of fillers
My problems with DBZ (not necessarily Kai, it fixed a lot of stuff):
1. the English translation is bad.
2. A lot of the filler. I know it was mandatory at the time because the manga wasn't finished, but looking at it today it just feels dumb
3. Most of the cast becoming obsolete. This is the biggest problem in the series imo, the series revolving more and more around the Saiyans with every non-saiyan becoming completely useless. Even the once-terrifying androids became fodder in just one arc.
4. Tying into the previous one, the power escalation. I know it's a common thing in this sort of manga/anime, but I personally don't like how fast it happened in Z, especially when it meant the old favorite characters had to bite the dust as a result

TBH for me the Kai music (at least the ripped off music) was better sounding.
@@KaiserMattTygore927 I was mostly referring to the first few iterations of dragon soul before vic mignogna saved it.
13:43
The guy who wrote the article states that he fuses with Kami early on in the series but then later fuses with Nail (couldn't be a typo, he outright says “...his counterpart, Kami...”), yet he fused with Nail in the second (or third, if you count Ginyu Force, Dodoria, etc. as a different arc from when it was just Frieza), then later fuses with Kami in the next arc.
So a shonen anime should be simple and not complexed

Okay, Geekdom. I gotta point out some shit with your vid here. I love you, but I'm sorry. I just gotta speak up on some shit here.
It's gonna be a long one, but just bare with me on this one:
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
1.) If the Great Saiyaman was like a Side-Story Movie or something instead of an Actual Filler Arc, it would have probably held up a lot better than it does right now.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
With all that said, Geekdom:
I still love your channel.
If anything, you should hold that person accountable even MORE, since you'd wanna make sure that person CONTINUES to keep their quality of writing GOOD and not drop the ball.
you're missing the point dood
none of this makes the anime suck compared to today's standards
I hope that podcast will have some game episodes. Gotta hear you talk about Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and many other games you love.
@@SmartAlec1 dissuade*
You tell me I'm grasping at straws and then criticize me about a point I didn't even fucking make (the popo bullshit I didn't talk about)? Makes sense.
Gardetrace you’re entire argument to be honest was pretty trash, the entire thing was comparing it to naruto, how the hell do you know he doesnt think naruto holds up also because pf those reasons?
The latin American dub is awesome in my opinion he didn't consider other dubs?
I must be just straight up weird, because I found out recently that people hated the Garlic Jr. saga, and loved the driver's license episode. I was the opposite. Loved the Garlic Jr. saga; it gave the weaker characters some exposition rather than being straight up useless the entire show, but the driver's license episode was just pointless. I definitely don't hate it, but I felt it was one of the weaker filler episodes.

About the "Everyone old is a pervert"
There is a huge problem with some people who, believe that anime fans are also perverts because of over sexualisation in anime. This type of thinking about us anime fans is very frustrating.
How to solve this issue ??
They must mean roshi
How to solve the issue? By not give a damn about them and hand them some tissue. Sexualisation itself is not the problem. Same with extreme violence, blood and gore most anime also have, because then anime fans would also be considered future killers if that's the case. Never let those type of people get to you because certain people are just sensitive, insecure snowflakes.
Wait until anime isn’t overly sexualized like it is, so basically never.
Yay I love these videos I even search around RUclips for debunks (not just DB) but urs are the best!

Actually it's Bentley from the first (and currently last) Sly Cooper movie trailer a few years ago. Whats weird about that movie is that they haven't really given a lot of news or details since.
Hmmm. Maybe I'll check that out
Geekdom do u agree that vegeta’s pride Is at most times pure stupidity
The Faulconer score isn't that great to be honest. It has great fight music and great themes for the characters. I love the cell, vegeta, & piccolo themes. BUT, those cringe worthy idling themes are bad.
When you write an article, but get roasted for not doing your homework, classic stitch up 😂
Really the cliche of a pervert .It’s pretty much fanservice for shonen manga you know
Doesn't make it right
+Sam Zuleger most adults cartoons like Simpsons and family guy have done sex jokes before
@drewpamon It’s a cartoon none of these characters are real and you acting like you are “right” is hypocritical.
DBZ will always be the best and most important anime of all time.
DBZ is easily top 3 if not first
@@ggamesgarner8027 not even top 3. Probably top 150 or top 100
Not even the best Shonen so how can it be the best anime?
Animeforlife I don’t usually insult people but you are stupid if you think that. DBZ in terms of fan base, money , sales, popularity, influence to anime culture, is EASILY top 3.
I can't be the only one who loves his Debunk videos lol like I see these articles an I think "I wonder if Geekdom well do a video on this" then I TRY to debunk them too.
Most of the times within a few days of me seeing the article there's a video about it lol
Unpopular opinion: dragonball was overall a pretty mediocre series and is masked my a cloud of nostalgia
Unpopular opinion 2: Super relies too heavy on past villains, retellings, and tournaments making it a pretty lack luster addition to the franchise.
I disagree, dragon ball is a great series and i am watched the entire anime for the first time recently.
Yeah, because if u don't understand why people love a series that u don't,pull out the nostalgia card
Yamcha x Maron
Damm bruh you've read that shit
I'm addicted to podcasts, I'll be checking that out for sure.

Dbs is filler only 😂😂😂😂😂
No? There’s around maybe 15 episodes out of 131 that are filler. The rest are the story arcs.
Dbs has no filler since it is not based on the manga
Ashith Oil i am saying same that no manga = filler series
Ashith Oil dbs just filler
Bringing up the Kai dub one moment really stuck out to me as an oversight. It's on Namek when they introduce Dende to Blooma Dende mentions his Namekian brothers and sisters, then immediately doesn't understand two kinds of Namekians. So which is it? Do you have Namekian brothers AND sisters or do you only have one kind of Namek? If you want to know why I used the name Blooma instead of Bulma check out Mistaire Fusion's Dragon Ball Disection.
DBZ has to be one of the most overrated anime of all time.

You got the dopest voice for podcasting dude. Sounds great so far !
It holds up on it's own but KAI on BluRay is absolutely the top tier format for me personally
yeah I hate when people consider filler a bad thing because filler contributes to character development and also story plot
That's not what filler is......
Filler is random shit that don't affect plot
