  • Out of Red Bull, and possibly straight into Ferrari - Adrian Newey’s uncertain future is already having a MASSIVE impact on F1.
Ferrari is understood to be working hard to secure Newey’s services for when the outgoing Red Bull technical chief becomes available in early 2025, although it is not the only team interested.
Aided by his close friend and manager Eddie Jordan, Newey has secured an early Red Bull exit that would allow him to join another team in the first few months of 2025.
But where will he go and how will that impact the team he's leaving behind and the one he's joining?
    0:00 Newey's early exit
    1:06 Ferrari's going for it
    2:27 Red Bull crumbling?
    4:48 New superteam prospect
    6:28 Williams wants a reunion

3:36 So the staff claim that Newey had no impact in the 2024 car….
Yet he was the one that designed the suspension in the 2022 RB18 car which has largely remained unchanged for the past 3 seasons, and was quite fundamental in the Ground Effect regulations

No Pierre Wache and his team are the full time developers of the 2022/2023 and 2024 car. Newey was parttime consultant and focused on the suspension, as he himself said in 2022…
Pierre Watch was ON THE PODIUM at the car launch this season as well..
Newey wasn’t THE designer, Newey had already said that himself several times these last seasons!
In 2021 Horner already said that they were reorganizing the team for the time Newey would leave, Newe6 was mentoring young engineers, Wache got promotion… RBR was prepared for Newey leaving. He is 65… he was only parttime at RBR cos he was also designing for the Ocean Race sailing boat and working on the DREAM TRACK CAR FOR RED BULL, THE RB17. His special project, the track car without any regulations or restrictions….his dream project.
And Newey had worked on the Valkyrie next to RBR racing team.

Ford must be getting cold feet from seeing this. They went from buying into a superteam, no doubt expecting an out of the box winner to now by the time they enter, the star designer and (Probably) the star driver leaving for a rival team and the PR nightmare of the Horner being caught with his trousers down. I don't doubt that RB has a succession plan for Adrian but much of it has got to be hot air just to stop sponsors and other key personnel from leaving too

  • @leoarc1061

We need to remember that RBR keeping Newey within the organization for so long wasn't, necessarily, to take advantage of his services, but to deny such services to other teams.
We've seen this before. For instance, when McLaren recruited Gordon Murray, there was a big element of simply denying his services to a rival team. Murray had a TD type role, but most of the actual blueprints and calculations where done by people like Neil Oatley, Steve Nichols, and Bob Bell.

I can't see Williams being a serious option. Firstly because, well, they're not exactly going brilliantly right now. But also because he already worked with them for many years, and I'd imagine he wants to go somewhere new rather than try to relive past glories. Ferrari offers that.
The other thing with Williams is that while they're a better and much more financially stable outfit now than they were a few years ago, turning them around and getting them back to the front is going to be a long-term project and Newey, at 65, probably isn't LOOKING for a long-term project.

I think the biggest effect will be on the driver market. Currently Red Bull have such car superiority that they can run with a second driver who would be bettered by half a dozen other drivers in equal machinery. The danger is that if Ferrari narrow the performance gap we could see Perez regularly being beaten into forth by the two Ferrari drivers. That would make the Constructors championship close, especially if the new powertrain has reliability issues. My guess is that Carlos will be looking increasingly attractive to combat the powerful driver line up at Ferrari. And in the unlikely event of Max leaving Carlos would be a great option to take over as lead driver.
