    Thank you for talking a bit about American muscle. In 1970 I bought a 1969 Z28 Daytona Yellow with black stripes and black interior. loved that car, wish I still had it. talked father into buying it for me because the article I read about the car said, its the closest thing Chevy will ever make that is almost a Ferrari! what a car. I always said if I live through this, I will get to be an old man. I have now made it to 65. got it when I was 16. Lots of stories.

    I have enjoyed my '65 Sting Ray convertible now for 20 years and must say it is just as amazing out on the highway as it is in the twisty stuff. I've upgraded the the factory 4 speed Muncie transmission for a Tremec TKO-600 5 speed, plus updated suspension, brakes and steering. Truly astounding how well this 50+ year old design can keep up with (or excel past) most modern cars.

    A former Florida friend had a silver one. He sold it through Hemmings Motor News to a collector in PA. The PA collector flew down to FL to check the authenticity of the car. He bought the car and arranged for it being shipped to PA. While waiting for the shipping company, my former friend removed the original 427 engine and re-stamped a 402 engine from a '71 wagon with the 427's numbers. The 402 looked close to being right but of course it wasn't. My former friend moved from FL to NC soon after the Corvette was shipped to PA. Two years later, he was arrested for interstate fraud, convicted, and sent to prison for several years.

    I used to own and run a Corvette and classic car restoration shop back in early 2000s. Strangest story I tell people is that I used to have a customer who would come in almost daily to check out the cars being worked on. So one day a customer brought in a super rare 1969 Corvette L88 (427 engine). It was to go under a full restoration (down to the red line tires)
    So way later in the day the guy that came around checking out the cars came in and I told him about the 1969 that I had parked. I stayed in the office and a few minutes later he came back in ad said he was going home and would be back. He looked upset. He came back about 30 minutes later with a title in his hand and wanted me to go with him and check out the VIN. Well, the numbers matched on the title. I called the customer that left the car and I called the police as well.
    Luckily the police and customer came in about the same time.
    I asked the customer to bring all paper work he have had on the car and would explain what was going on when he got there.
    So, everyone got together I thought I would do the explaining on what was going on because the one guy was obviously upset. I asked the customer where he got his car and explained to both the guy and police that it was possibly a stolen car. The customer brought his paper work and the police officer looked it over then called headquaters............. turned out the car was reported stolen by the original guy who was upset BUT...... it was found but overlooked at the police impound AND sold at police auction.
    The end result? The police officer asked if an insurance settlement was made and the answer was Yes. The officer said that this guy is the new legal owner then........... I felt bad for him

    • @DSC800
      @DSC800 2 года назад

      That is strange. Doesn't the insurance company have a claim against the car though?

    • @nazfan01
      @nazfan01 2 года назад +1

      @@DSC800 - From what I understood was that apparently the original owner got a insurance settlement. What I am not sure of is how long it had been missing before it showed up at my shop. I assume the car sat at the police imound for quite some time before it got auctioned off.
      I do not remember what happened afterwards but I think the guy sued the police dept. over that whole ordeal.
      Talk about anoher strange story, I had a guy drop off a 1957 Corvette for a complete off the frame restoration and he gave me $10,000 down to start the job. I had the car for quite a while but never heard back from the guy. I called the number he left on the invoice and the phone was no longer in service. My shop was in Texas, I tried searching for the guy and all I found out was that he lived or moved to Florida ( He may have had 2 homes, one in each State)
      Could never locate him or family. I had the State of Texas search for him and it was believed he had died. I waited a year and nothing, so the State let me have the car as a mechanic lien and I sold the car. Never ever heard anything about him or family...........

    So what's the rear end? I had a 3:70 rear end in my '64 327ci with 365hp and the tach ran about about 1/2 the speed, meaning at 70 mph it was running 3500 rpm. Loved that car. I remember speed shifting into 4th at 90 mph and "barking" the tires. That's a speed shift, NOT a power shift. The owner before had put a stinger hood on it and it was a convertible with both tops. God, how I loved that car.

      In the late 1970s I bought a former '66 Corvette 427-425 (ermine white exterior, saddle tan interior) 4-spd with 3:70 rear. The previous owner had blown up the engine and dropped in a 327-365, along with the small block radiator and overflow tank. I eventually spun #5 rod bearing hot rodding it. I decided not to take down the engine, hot tank it, etc., and sold the short block, keeping the heads, aluminum intake, distributor, carb, chrome dipstick, etc., and bought a 350 short block and put the 327-365 heads, manifold, carb, distributor on it. But instead of going with another solid lifter cam I elected to go with an after market hydraulic cam slightly hotter than Chevy's 350 HP cam. I also elected not to install the ram head exhaust manifold, and installed a set of Black Jack headers on it. For my money, the small block Chevy is the best engine ever made.

    That thing doesn’t need a gearbox! Just weld a prop shaft to the end of the crank and be done with it! 😂

    I know every car guy/gal feels the need to flail around with their spaghetti arms like one of those inflatable wacky wavy tube shaped guys, but this one here makes Scotty Kilmer look like a double stroke victim.

    OK, it's a big block 427. What flavor? 390 hp? 400 hp? 425 hp? 435 hp? Has someone stuffed a big mutha thumper cam in it? As for the transmission gears, maybe a wide ratio unit would be a better choice. Not being a transmission expert, I think the Muncie M-21 may have been available in close ratio gear sets as well as wide ratio gear sets. Ooops...there's that 425 hp sticker on the air cleaner. I like that green top....but you could loosen it up a bit without violating YT standards.

    Why do people keep calling it a muscle car? It's a bona fide sports car, just like the Ferrari it's parked by.
