My grandmother owns a racing red 1966 model, but it doesn't have the original engine, it has a 383 stroker under the hood, but still has the side dump exhaust and rims seen on the car in the video. Also has an all-red interior too. I was told it was tuned to over 400 horsepower and I did get to drive it once in a parking lot with my father, the whole car vibrates at idle. It was heart racing experience even at slow speeds.
That's a beautiful vette, but she's smokin out of the right bank. One of the drawbacks of restoring a car and trying to use every single original part, you can make it look pretty but it's still got some wear on the inside.
I bought this exact model and color but with the 450/427 engine. I bought it used 1 year old from a hair salon owner who found the Vette to 'confining' for him. I really miss it.
That looks like it could be the one a friend of mine pulled out of a barn in the early 90's. It was his uncle's who had died in Vietnam. It had the hard top and the fluids had been drained, all we did was fill up the fluids and it was ready to run. Gorgeous car, but he traded it for a semi to make a living for his family.
Me: Chrome bumper C3s are my favourite. *Watches MCOTW* daaaaaaamn. Now I want a C2 as well. I have a 1974 L48 coupe, but I still want a BB '69 convertible. That's the dream csr since I was 6-7 years old. But that C2 though...
Want to have it all? This was your car. Beat anything that dared to challenge you at a stop light and pretty enough to "wow" any woman you dated on Friday night. An Eat your Cake and have it too car if there ever was one for sure.
Nassau Blue is named after the speed weeks in Nassau Bahamas not the waters, just about all Corvette paint color names back in the day were named after races or racetracks.
Kevin, you're a great guy. But, if the brothers had a knockout blonde with huge hoots and a skimpy Nassau Blue bikini doing this presentation, I for one would have watched it twice.
Greg, it seems like you were wanting to add something to your statement about the 4 barrel feeding the 427. Was there another option like a 6-pack choice? This is one sweet Vette!
They had a lot of style and "feel" but the top of the line 2021 model can just about touch 200 mph. Maybe that convertible could use wider tires at the back, are burning up with all the torque that 427 cranks out .A better grip will improve acceleration
Umm, you know that the fenders do not allow anything wider than a 7 inch wheel and 215/70/15 tires. And why are you comparing a C8 to an L-72 '66 Corvette?
@@shimshonbendan8730 I was just trying to say ,that for performance, Chevrolet is making a pretty good Corvette at the moment ,in case people weren't aware of that . The old 60's models are still in a class of their own for style and "feel"
I wonder if the color (Nassau Blue) would look on a classic first generation Chevrolet Camaro? Speaking of Camaros, can we see a review over the new 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1?
had the close ration in a '65 L76 w/ the solid lifter cam and not so great torque below 3000 rpm, from a stop first gear felt like starting out in second gear. when i went to a roller cam engine i swapped in a wide ratio M20 and 308 rear, makes a wonderful street car now
Yes you're wrong, 3.36 was available and was the ratio that Car and Driver had when they blasted to a 12.8 @112 mph 1/4 mile run so don't talk about it won't work. But you could also get 3.55, 3.70 and 4.11. Not sure about the 4.56 in 66, wasn't a normal option but maybe if you knew somebody. 4.56 really started in 67 with the L88 and continued through 1972 on the ZR1.
Perfect gear actually, plenty power to get off the line and 70 mph is only 3000 rpm so you can cruise the highway and still run 140 mph on top or til you get scared.
A/C was not available with the 425hp 427 engine. A/C was available with the 390hp 427 engine. Keeping a “hot” big block motor cool was a challenge - I recall pulling over and shutting down to “cool off” motors when stuck in beach traffic back in the day when summer temps got into the 90s.
Although they offered A/C with a few different small block solid lifter (6500 rpm) engines, Chevy nevered offered a solid lifter big block with A/C, the main issue was keeping the accessory belts on the engine at the higher rpms, something we take for granted today with the simpler serpentine belt, just didn't have that back then. Many did not order power steering also for this reason.
???????????? let's face it the beauty of the '66 model rivals any of today's 'vettes and that's a fact, the '66 is ART on Wheels...otherwise, why do they command such stellar prices? 'nuff said....
The exhaust is also Nassau Blue. But it's my favorite body style.

383 is the goat of street engines. Hope your gramps has many more years to enjoy her
I got my grandpas corvette it’s been sitting since 1975 it’s a big block manual black interior and the exterior is like a smoke gray it’s all original
YOu mean small block - 1975
That's a beautiful vette, but she's smokin out of the right bank. One of the drawbacks of restoring a car and trying to use every single original part, you can make it look pretty but it's still got some wear on the inside.
Perfect car for a Friday night Cruise by the coast
I just got back from driving my 66 427 (450 HP) and yes its true art and scary thrills driving this skinny tire beast.
I bought this exact model and color but with the 450/427 engine. I bought it used 1 year old from a hair salon owner who found the Vette to 'confining' for him. I really miss it.
I had one just exactly like this one. I can't believe I ever got rid of it. Beautiful car!!!!!!
My mouth is watering. Check out that healthy "scratch" in 2nd gear at 4:03-4:05!
I peed a liddle ☝️
64,65 & 66 are under priced and overlooked sometimes I think, unless it's a rare optioned one.
The 65' 396 vette is an underated one.
I think you mean the 1965 396 Vette. I agree. I really like the “power bulge” hood design on the ‘65 396 and ‘66 427 Vettes.
You're right. The 65 with that 396 L78 was a real threat to whomever pulled up next to you.
That looks like it could be the one a friend of mine pulled out of a barn in the early 90's. It was his uncle's who had died in Vietnam. Gorgeous car it would be a nice one to go for a cruise on nice cool evening love the color and the fact it has a big block
probably would have been a good idea to put a new set of rings in that 427 before they dropped it back into that Corvette.

Would have loved to take this to the American Graffiti Festival & Car Show in Modesto this past June!
Absolutely Beautiful !
I had a L88 SS Nova copo with a 4 speed And 410 rear gear badass period 💯💯👍👍😎
Beautiful car indeed, but right bank oil burning is awful, what is it, rings???
stunning, comes to mind....

was the blue smoke comin out the side pipes
Still for sale?

Thay should do a nother vid on the 1967 l88 vet but drive it around this time
Kevin, you're a great guy. But, if the brothers had a knockout blonde with huge hoots and a skimpy Nassau Blue bikini doing this presentation, I for one would have watched it twice.
Needs a ring job on the pistons, the oil is burning Nassau blue!
lol good one
Man does that thing burn oil
May be it's a diesel corvette...
Hour about the black white skunk hooded vette behind the blue one being featured?
How does the fuel mileage look?
Greg, it seems like you were wanting to add something to your statement about the 4 barrel feeding the 427. Was there another option like a 6-pack choice? This is one sweet Vette!
not that year, the 67 427 had three two's on the 400 and 435 hp engines
Do the brothers ever sell any cars?
I’m surprised it doesn’t have the original Kelsey knock off rims. I suppose maybe the original owner ordered it with hubcaps ?
I agree with Fred, except the exhaust color in not original. Let me go to the Home Depot and check the swatches.

keep it cool drive it with out the hood
336 rear end was not available with a close ratio. Too slow off the line. close ratio was only available 4.11 and 4.56 am I wrong?

Why's it blowing smoke? Seems like someone liked too beat it✓
Is this car for sale
3:36 gears, seems awfully high.?
Perfect gear actually, plenty power to get off the line and 70 mph is only 3000 rpm so you can cruise the highway and still run 140 mph on top or til you get scared.
I don't consider Corvettes to be muscle cars.Yes.I've owned several Vettes.
Needs a set of rings or valve stem seals.
I can't believe they were making that power back then 🤘
But why does it still seem slowwww??
It's not.
Pity about the valve seals.
No A/C??? It was only $400+. By far the most expensive option for the year. ($3,270 in today's dollars). I guess that was a bit much back then ....

Not a good car to use as an example, more blue smoke from the exhaust, than the tires....valves or rings, maybe both.....$$$
66 was the first year of the 427 not 65 .in 65 you could get 396/425 the same motor that was in the z16
In 65 the top engine was the 425hp L78, The Z16 used the L37 rated at 375hp, it's nearly identical outside of the hydraulic cam.
Needs new rings or valve seals
buy it and doit
I wonder what the 'actual' hp was...
😊
oh, what say, the "Brothers" paid about a half-Mil for one ???
I prefer small block high performance engines
i see this engine is burning oil
Needs a rebuild, the engine is smoking from thr right bank.
Like an old old gun...I wouldn't fire it, it's liable too blow up...
The smoke is under power. my guess it's the rings.
Oil burner
Pretty car but they drive like trucks, handle like crap and barely can stop.
Compared to today's Corvettes, you're right!
not true-4 wheel disc brakes and handled great for 60's era cars-it was a world class performing car in hi-po 327 form
A new one makes far more sense. Great for 1966 not so much in 2017.
OK, lets just crush them...
Hmmm, I wonder what explains the massive demand and monstrous prices.
???????????? let's face it the beauty of the '66 model rivals any of today's 'vettes and that's a fact, the '66 is ART on Wheels...otherwise, why do they command such stellar prices? 'nuff said....
You one crazy boy!
I just got back from driving my 66 427 and its true art and true thrills driving this skinny tire beast@@BlacKnightRising
Sure is burning a lot of oil out of the driver side ..... NOT GOOD.
