About Married with Children:

Al Bundy (Ed O'Neill) is a shoe salesman who is fond of frequently reliving his doubtful 15 seconds of fame on the football field. Al is terrified of the all-too-frequent amorous advances of his ditsy wife Peggy (Katey Sagal), who spends most of Al's wages at the salon and the mall. They have two teenage kids: stunning but superficial party animal Kelly (Christina Applegate) and egocentric Bud (David Faustino). Steve meeting the Bundys was the beginning of the end of his marriage to Marcy. For his own good.
I've seen couples like Steve and Marcy where she says "Jump"and he replies with "How high and how many flips with it?". Some of those Steves liked it that way, but others acted like they were reduced to dropping little notes with "Help me, help me please!" scribbled on them.
Yeah, I can't see anyone being happily married to a woman like Marcy..
Actually, I can't see any sane man marrying, or taking serious any of the women portrayed in this show

She either cheats, and/or divorces him and leaves him destitute..
Or, he snaps, and winds up in jail for life

Despite being a regular for just the 1st 4 seasons, Steve had some rememberable scenes- & lines too!
Rewatching MWC decades later has made me appreciate Steve. Underneath that 80s yuppie and new age sensitive husband facade, Steve was just a regular guy dying to break free from the corporate rat race and marriage shackles 🤘🤘
That's why I preferred him over Jefferson. He was much more than Al's sidekick

He was awesome. Took me awhile to like Jefferson and he still couldn't quite replace Steve.

Steve was my fav, him and AL were great
I found Steve to be far more hilarious than Jefferson. Steve was a perfect straight man foil for Al. The show towards the later seasons was too over the top
It was more grounded in reality in the earlier seasons, but I enjoy both ends of the spectrum myself.

Having them both finally meet up in the same episode was legendary! Every joke on this show a masterpiece and truly resonate, unlike many "woken comedy" shows today with highly forgettable script and totally flavorless acting / delivery thereof.
Steve is also a hero
when the wife acts like your mother, then you've got a marcy darcy chicken at large.

I don't dislike Jefferson, but Steve is way better.
Jefferson was the natural "Boytoy" replacement that all Marcys of the world get out of desperation when their Steves they were married to finally grow another pair and break out.

They should have put where he comes back in the egg an I episode or when he teases Marcy with the car when he is a driver at the car wash when they can't find the dodge cause it clean

The show just wasn't the same after Steve left
He was the best. The dead-pan, straight man quality of his delivery was unrivaled. Anytime he had a real zinger was too funny and unexpected.

I've preferred Steve over Jefferson for a while. But I'm not sad about the change. Cause if Steve was part of it I don't know how he'd feel about no ma'am and stuff, he was a smarter character and wouldn't make the stupid antics with the other friends work really.
Steve was coming dangerously close to turning into a Jefferson like clone by the time he left. But I have to admit I can't see him quite fitting in with Al and his 'No MA'AM pals, job or no job.
Jefferson was funny. But Steve brought a more natural flavor to the show that no doubt would have felt out of place in the later cartoonish style of the last 2 or 3 seasons.

The big mistake with Jefferson was the writers made him Al's buddy.

A good way to circumvent all that "You could never make this today" talk that I find so tiresome but is mentioned any time this show is brought up.
In a sense, they already have. It's called: Family Guy.

Jefferson was waaay better and funnier than Steve. Steve just wasn't funny and had little to no chemistry with Al, which Jefferson did.
