Seems to me security needs to be more concerned about securing their property better to prevent break-ins than being concerned about someone doing a legal activity of taking photos and video from public land. Security is uneducated in thinking you need ,"permission".
The security guy was poorly informed but friendly and non-confrontational. The bigger was OK too considering he's been up to the 3am alarm call. At the end of the day, however, it's the responsibility of the data centre to secure its facility. Don't whinge if you haven't done your job properly.

All these larger organisations will have had their cameras installed by professional building security companies. Reputable, responsible security installations that are recognized by insurers. Surely over the years, somebody will have noticed that the back door isn't covered. So, not 'honest John' with a van and a pair of steps on a weekend "cash only" job. The desperate excuses used, to exercise control over their surroundings are insulting.

Mercury House used to get broken into regularly when it was occupied by Mercury Communications. On one occasion they took out the whole window on the ground floor and nicked all the computers.

When it comes to security fencing and cctv it's always about money and most companies are reactive instead of proactive. They never want to spend money until something bad happens and then they spend, but always reluctantly
