My top kitten tip for a restful sleep is to not react when they try to disturb you at night; play dead, don't move or say anything at all, not even to tell them no. Otherwise they learn that they can wake you up and they are essentially training you. It may take a week or two but the kitty will eventually learn to just let you sleep. When I first got my cat she was full of CRAZY kitten energy and the first few nights I was like "oh no what have I got myself into?" but she learned quickly and now she just sleeps with me at night!
I second this! When I got my cat she was yowling at night and I thought, What have I done? Big mistake! But then my brother said, Oh she is just telling you her story. (I adopted her). I did not react and she grew out of it.
I 100% agree with this. This is exactly how I dealt with my cat sticking her paw under my bedroom door when I first got her. Eventually they learn that it doesn't work. Your sleep is too valuable, the amount of diseases linked to long term lack of sleep means it's absolutely not worth it.

Even if it's to yell you really can't acknowledge them waking you up or they'll keep doing it. Took my kitten almost a full year to get the picture that sleep time is sleep time! Getting them toys they can play with by themselves or an auto feeder can help big time too.

Since you’re renting, you might try or design a portable version, or a larger one you can easily break down and reassemble somewhere else if you ever have to move. 😻 You might want to incorporate a smaller window as a cat portal for easy safe cat access, with a larger human-sized door for maintenance or emergency.

I keep a lot of my plants elivated on stands or a rack cause window sills are places my cat Mia considers her real estate. Also on Temu they carry cat scratching gards for sofa corners.She is a lovely lilac little girl I'm glad she was saved from a life of other predators and such outdoors. Bunch of other people have said this in the comments but I will also add that leash training your cat also has the added benefit of making them a little bit easier to travel with. My cat doesn’t go for walks or anything but it is nice that she is calm in a harness and leash for when we travel I can give her breaks from her carrier.
Winnie will 100% love being a leash kitty. I trained my cat Zoloft when he was little and he loves going on walks now. I also highly recommend getting winnie microchipped especially because she loves outside. I’m so so happy for you guys. Congratulations!!
I'd be super interested to have an updated pest control video especially since you now have Theo and Winnie (keeping our pets safe complicates things!). Specifically mite/flatmite control for platycerium would be immensely appreciated since spraying their trichomes isn't ideal. I'd also recommend Jackson Galaxy's youtube channel for any behavioral challenges with Winnie :) Cats can be tough and they are soooo smart and energetic. They need stuff to do and things to hunt/climb if they are kept indoors
Hi Benji, you can place water near cat food, but generally better to keep the water and food bowls a bit apart. Cats can sometimes be picky and may not like to drink water that's too close to their food because it can become contaminated or have food particles in it. Placing the water bowl in a separate location can encourage your cat to drink more and keep the water cleaner. I used to have 2 dogs, each left in 2015 and 2019. I also adopted my cat Hana in 2020. I learnt a lot from animals. They are great companions ❤
Scheduled meal time later in the day helped me with my cat wanting to play early in the morning. She gets her first meal at 11 am. But kittens are crazy lol, she will settle down. ALSO get your kitten used to baths! Cats don’t need them often, but sometimes they’ll have an emergency like vomiting on themself, or need them in old age. Baths can reduce allergens too and they make sprays and foams you can brush into their coats to reduce allergens.
The relationship between Winnie and Theo is one of the most adorable things I've ever seen. Love ur growing family. So cute! I also watch Wild Fern and just love her as well. If she starts eating plants, I recommend growing cat grass (it's usually Wheat, Barley, Rye, etc.). Cats are pure carnivores but they instinctively eat grass to add some fiber to their diet, they are mostly attracted to thin leaves and usually leave thicker plants like aroids or ivys alone. The only plants that gave me trouble were Oncidium and Zygopetalum orchids (they have veeeery thin leaves), which are not poisonous but of course the plant gets damaged. Adding the cat grass completely solved the chewing problem and I placed three different pots in strategic places near plants they would eat. I would imagine something like a spider plant or ponytail palm would be a target.

You can also get window ACs-the portable kind might work best for your window type. They’re not really portable once you install them, but they’re very flexible.
Cat allergens come from their saliva, not necessarily fur/dander. But because they groom themselves, it transfers to their body. Over time, as you live with a cat, if you are allergic, you can build up a tolerance to your own cat. Different cat breeds/coat types will produce different levels of the enzymes/proteins that cause allergens, which is why some people are more/less allergic to certain breeds or coat lengths.
Beige isn't my thing, but those are great pots and all similar color on different plants is aesthetically beautiful. The moss ball plantings are so perfect! Beautiful!

I love this! My cats actually sleep all night, and watch birds feeding on my balcony at the big patio doors until about 9 a.m. when they decide they're hungry. As they get older, they often are awake just before dawn, their natural hunting time. Mine don't eat plants either.
We are experienced cat owners. Kittens are always crazy for about the first year. They want to explore everything and are super curious. To keep her from ruining blinds, leave a few up so that she can always look out a few windows when she wants. Also, never tease her with your hands so she doesn't think they are toys. She's so sweet! Will be great company for your pup. Get her spayed as soon as her weight allows and make sure she's chipped. Congratulations on your new addition!

I would also add groom after eat! It's natural feline behavior after play/hunt to eat and then wind down and bond with grooming before bed.

Cat allergens come from their saliva, not necessarily fur/dander. But because they groom themselves, it transfers to their body. Over time, as you live with a cat, if you are allergic, you can build up a tolerance to your own cat. Different cat breeds/coat types will produce different levels of the enzymes/proteins that cause allergens, which is why some people are more/less allergic to certain breeds or coat lengths.

I love this! My cats actually sleep all night, and watch birds feeding on my balcony at the big patio doors until about 9 a.m. when they decide they're hungry. As they get older, they often are awake just before dawn, their natural hunting time. Mine don't eat plants either.

We are experienced cat owners. Kittens are always crazy for about the first year. They want to explore everything and are super curious. To keep her from ruining blinds, leave a few up so that she can always look out a few windows when she wants. Also, never tease her with your hands so she doesn't think they are toys. She's so sweet! Will be great company for your pup. Get her spayed as soon as her weight allows and make sure she's chipped. Congratulations on your new addition!

The way I clicked on this while trying not to squeal because my cat is asleep next to me 😻 kittens are wild, but you can get them used to things like a backpack! (and nail clipping and vet visits) much easier than once they’re older
