12:23 Citing the Africa Center for Strategic Studies map of Russian disinformation campaigns in Africa and then saying that that is the equivalent of the CIA’s campaigns in the Cold War is an example of a broader issue I have with the case made in this video. ACSS is a branch of the US Department of Defense! Overall through the video what is being shown is the idea that Russia is now meddling in the same way the US did in the past, but there is no acknowledgement of the US’s role in these countries as after the Cold War it is taken for granted, just as that DoD map of Russian disinformation is taken for granted. This just a 4 sentence RUclips comment, I don’t think I conveyed my thoughts nearly as best here as possible, but if I can encourage anyone to look deeper and more critically than the perspective offered in this video than I’m grateful.
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts! I appreciate your critical feedback and this is exactly the sort of thoughtful disagreement I love to see on my channel. I actually had some hesitation about using the ACSS map due to the DOD’s likely bias, but it was the best visual available, and its data aligned with other sources I reviewed. I chose to present the map as is rather than create a custom version in geolayers because I felt that would have obscured the origin of the information, which would have been buried in the sources. Ultimately, I agree with your overarching point - everyone should look more deeply and critically at every issue. My perspective is just one of many, and all perspectives, including mine, are biased one way or the other. Appreciate you encouraging deeper thought on this topic!
