What's Up With All the Coups in Africa?
In this building, on July 27th 2023, Vladimir Putin gathered representatives from 49 African countries for the 3rd Russia Africa Summit. A lot of the top power brokers in Africa were in this building on that day. But one important country was missing.
Just as Vladimir Putin told the attendants that “The African continent is emerging as a new center of power right before our eyes.” 8000km away in the heart of the Sahel, members of Niger's presidential guard overthrew the democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum.

Why Africa's Largest City is a Terrible Place to Live
Просмотров 497 тыс.4 месяца назад
The largest gathering of people on the African continent is on this patchwork of islands and peninsulas on the coast of the gulf of guinea..Lagos. It’s one of the 20 largest cities cities in the world. But it’s also the second worst city to live in, only doing better than the capital of Syria, which is in the middle of a civil war. And a big part of WHY, has to do with its geography and it’s ea...
How One Word Could Send Nigeria into Crisis
Просмотров 5 тыс.Год назад
There’s a word in Nigeria’s constitution that could mean the country doesn’t have a legitimate president. It's about how imperfect democracy really works and elections and power. Music Tom Fox - ruclips.net/channel/UCLB2sZa0kqPmkw2Bes59ePA
Why Nigeria's Biggest Phone Company Wants to Be a Bank
Просмотров 2,8 тыс.2 года назад
MTN received a license from the Central bank of Nigeria to operate a mobile money service, which has everyone wondering if they can INSTANTLY convert their 75 million subscribers in Nigeria to mobile money customers and dominate the payments industry with the same level of success achieved in its mobile telephony business. Given that Nigeria has 190 million mobile subscribers but only 54 millio...
How to Buy a Failing Bank in Africa (and get rich)
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.2 года назад
In 2001, Two 35 year-old executives, Herbert Wigwe and Aigboje 'Aig' Imoukhuede, convinced their friends and family to put down their homes, properties, and life savings as collateral to finance the acquisition of a failing regional bank that was in trouble with the regulator. Today it has become the largest bank in Nigeria by assets and the largest bank in Africa by customer base with over 30 ...
This is an amazing channel and video! Keep it up honestly I love these vids
Was anyone in the world operating under a false presumption that Lagos was an awesome place to live?
Why Africa's is a Terrible Place to Live, enough
Well, because it's Africa's largest city. Duh.
Every person that does not believe human overpopulation is a major problem should be required to live in Lagos for ten years, at a minimal subsistence wage.
Cairo is the largest city in Africa.
Amazing video
Why should Black Americans go to Africa? How hard would it have been for Nigerian officials to visit other cities or countries to see how public works departments are run? They didn't care (about the basics) why should I?
Good Info...Well done
this video is very questionable and weird, seems like something intentionally made to push a narrative, especially to foreigners. this is very much colonial propaganda, you intentionally read and disseminated false stories from colonizers themselves. Lagos was never "picturesque" it was segregated! and the colonizers didn't build stuff like you overly exaggerated it, the only built it in a way to accommodate a few at the expense of others and thats one of the reasons its failing today because the people who took over learned from the colonists, still follow their ways and refused to decolonize their minds and practices. nice try with this, it would work on ignorant people and self loathing blacks But also you didn't mention how Lagos was not easily invaded and the invasion was repealed the first time, it was the second time tha the colonizers stayed at a distance and started firing incriminately at civilian environments and led to alot of people fleeing, you also intentionally didn't use the map that showed how the land was altered due to the senseless bombings
I think Africa’s Population is way overcounted
Because it has Africans in it
Should have let the Brits in vharge.

Thank you for researching this topic and a special thank you for being clear about your sources; you do a better job of being transparent than a majority of YT content producers. Your presentation was clear and this comment doesn't challenge your overall narrative. Rather, one of your sources contained some very confusing, inconsistent data. At 10:44, table 7 from the 2018 Merem et al. paper, which you include in the video, has some erratic entries like at 1963,1991, and 2015 where water supply is many orders of magnitude higher than in other years. Furthermore the units of water supply MLD which I assume is million litres per day (paper does not specify) does not match the units in the other columns MGD (million gallon per day which the paper does specify) and yet, it looks like entries are subtracted to yield a demand gap in MGD. Also, the population values eventually far exceed what I can find from other sources online starting after 2015 which also has an abnormal drop in population and a value of water supply that is 3 orders of magnitude higher than other entries besides 1963, and 1991; 2016, 2018 and 2020 feature populations values that are up to near 50% higher than current estimates of Lagos' population. Since the paper was published in 2018, the number for 2020 at the least must be a projection. The paper mentioned current water demand at 540 MGD vs a capacity of 210 MGD which you mention in the video as well, but this corresponds to the numbers seen in 2010 if we assume that MLD is just not the correct unit for the water supply column. Overall, this seems consistent with the data actually dating to 2010 and the remainder including 2015 onward being projections. This might also explain why 2015 featured such extremely anomalous data: it might have been a projection error. I'm pretty surprised this table and section was not flagged in the review process of the journal. Ultimately, I believe your stipulations about the dire mismatch between water supply and demand as well as the intense population growth but I believe you may be better served with a different source for data on this topic. Again, thank you for sharing your sources; it's a great model for other content creators.
Really curious why a city in Africa is so terrible to live! After all, it is literally surrounded by the examples of top tier cities all over the continent... /s
So basically after independence it went down the tube when mediocrity replaced all the good that was left in place by so called colonizers.
Lagos is extensively covered by Google Streetview so pick any random place and look and it's obvious why you wouldn't live there.
Lagos is not bigger than Gauteng (Johannesburg, Germiston and Pretoria), its not the largest city in Africa. You can see that of a world map at night with the lights. In a formal census from 2022, there are 17million people in Gauteng. 200 million people in Nigeria and 20 million in Lagos is an estimate.
Because it's in Africa lol
It's too hot 🥵
Have you done a comparable review of Abuja yet? I didn't see one on your channel. Or would that be an unfair comparison?
It’s not just about bad roads etc. it’s like INDIA Drive on any side of the rd at any speed. Roundabouts. Don’t work the population seems to enjoy sitting in the 3 days to get across 2 miles. It’s cultural. Or just IGNORANT. You cannot run effective Traffic system with rules. And just like Pakistan and many other places. If your LANGUAGE DOES NOT EVEN HAVE WORDS . Example. Please - thank you . Etc. it’s just. DO - MOVE NOW NOW HURRY MOVE .. no politeness then it’s madness. PS. Leave the traffic to them. They wouldn’t go into the city and sleep in there western cars. I say. It should become old style. Only foot and Horse mule etc traffic. In the Center. . V.
Mumbia another City on a spit of land around a lagoon all from British VICTORIAN Times. India has about 7 Ceylon ( Sri Lanka ) has two. All about sailing ship ports.
Yay, a video on African history that isnt focused on imperialism and antiimperialism (in a judgement-based sense, not in terms of mentioning colonialism). Well worth a watch.
Is there anywhere good to live in Africa?
your right, its because of its geography.... Its located in africa...
Very interesting and well put together video. Subscribed
TL;DR: "It's full of N'wahs and it's ruled by N'wahs!"
Why is it a bad place to live? Look at the demographics. Its like that everywhere they live heavily
bro almost 20 million people and they JUST opened their first train line ?? man and here i am complaining auckland “only” has 4 lines
In 60 years, it will have 80 million people.
Shoulda let the Guinea Worm take its natural course.
9:00 Why not mention how Nigeria is still being exploited by the former colonial powers? This is a wild omission that leaves viewers to believe the British were solely beneficial to West Africa.
nice video
I would imagine the number of cities in Africa that are terrible places to live far outnumbers the opposite list.
Hey dude - I work a lot with RUclips video editing, you have the skill and further potential to go big and do really well - the only thing I’d suggest, is try and weave in some background noise / background music in some parts, such as at the start when introducing Lagos, some noise to fill the silent gaps would really smooth out the video. Good luck!
Great video man. I learned a lot. Thanks.
lookslike a map of south london ----
Stop acting as if these Bush Africans had any "empires " and "kingdoms" and make up names like Yoyo Empire youre ridiculous. Their history starts with the arrival of the Europeans
Why don't you pick up a book before saying stupid rubbish?
Not every empire have the same palaces or same dynamics or whatever you have in mind as Europe, even Europe empires are extremely different from each other. Plz enough with this superiority stuff its inhumane and rude
@lksdgh6058 Delightful to see how the "gentlemen" from below your comment are having a meltdown. I assume they were kangs as well. :))
Even without Russian backing it's pretty obvious that they're all fed up with French hegemony.
The population of Cairo exceeds that of Lagos by six million.
imagine making a 15 minute video to say "Africa is unlivable bc of Africans" lol
"Largest City" was completely unnecessary to the title of this video.
Africa wins again.
One of the very few videos that accurately addresses the role of African in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Most black people in the West don’t admit that, they want you to think the Europeans invaded and took people away in all cases
Thank you for this history lesson and well produced video!
So what is to be done? It seems hopeless. Best bet seems to be to leave and live somewhere better.
Why is Tehran so low?
