Narek Hakhnazaryan is a great young cellist from Armenia. He was a gold medal of the Tchaikovsky 2011 in Moscow festival; is poised to become one of the greatest players of the violoncello, this interpretation of Rachmaninoff "Vocalise" was absolutely flawless.
that was one of the most beautiful performances i've ever heard. the open honesty of it, each note seemed to come out of your heart. it moved me to tears. one of the most flawless performances i've heard in my life, and i've heard pretty much all the famous cellists- duPre, stark, yo yo ma, rostropovich, etc. you will achieve great success in music.
That was an impeccable and moving performance...excellent intonation, expression and articulation. The accompanist was great and sensitive in providing a subtle harmonic support and background against which the poignant melody unfolded....Thanks.
One of the things I like about this gorgeous performance is the lack of "preciousness" -- I don't know what to call it in musical terms -- perhaps someone can tell me --. So often the Vocalise -- on the cello -- is played as if every note is "milked" and -- emoted, I guess I would say. That can be very beautiful. Isn't it wonderful that there are so many ways to play one piece of music? And it needn't ever be played the same way twice. That is one of the joys of a close collaboration, that risks can be taken together without crashing, that we can challenge our own collaborators and - oh, what a joy to play chamber music.
What Tone! What Color! And I hadn't a clue until this morning when I received an email from my wife, telling me of a concert she attended last night in Guangzhou (China), where this handsome young musician performed, among others, this liquid gold of the great Sergei Rachmaninoff, "Vocalise." Yo Yo Ma; you're great --- but don't look back; someone is gaining on you!

The piano should have been open on full stick. This piece is a duet; there are gorgeous counter-melodies and colorful harmonies in the piano part that make this piece much more powerful and rich when the parts are equal. My ears yearned for more piano, which was played so beautifully. Otherwise, amazing.
Yes the intention was clearly to put forward the cello.. no, in fact, the intention was to put forward the cellist. It is indeed a mistake because the piano part is wonderful here and deserved to be equally brought to light. The music should come first, not the cult of personality. sadly, the pianist is not even mentioned in the title of the video, only in description. Nowadays in classical music, this wayward trend is blatant.
seriously, i think you're the best cellist and I've seen slava, yoyo, du pre, haimovitz, nearly all i think i can compare you to janos starker in your performance that sound! is Great! it's very natural and beautiful
Simply GREAT playing , he IS born to do what he is doing , absolutely one of my favourite,s musicians ......................His playing REALLY "gets to you " !!!
Wow what a great cellist. Young, fresh. Very ver good. But I think that he really should play with another pianist. She is not up to him. with another musician he impression would be different.

Cello and piano is a marriage made in heaven. That kind of duet is always like a love relation.

Yes, the piano part is exquisite, too, and equal.

Molto bravo

bravo!
this is not criticism, and he is an outstanding young cellist!
Maladesh Pazdrabliaiu
brilliant
It's so easy to criticize! I doubt if you could play it better or even as well!
He is an outstanding young cellist!
It certainly looks like criticism, but I'm glad you agree he is an outstanding cellist.
Simply GREAT playing , he IS born to do what he is doing , absolutely one of my favourite,s musicians ......................His playing REALLY "gets to you " !!!
WHY do you have to write like that?!
Am I the only one who think this sounds better in E Minor (as it is played here) compared to the original C# Minor?
Sathrandur No you're not.
Cool
No I agree ( for the cello arrangement that is )
un chef d'oeuvre immortel!
Interpretazione superiore a tutte
please, don't read the future, just listen and enjoy the music.
For my taste the vibrato is too small and intense which makes the piece quite "agitated" ...
+TheNimbleTurtle Why don' t you two just shut up and listen again...
Provided it is constructive!
Your criticism is anything but....
I happen to be a professional violinist from former USSR, so trust me, I probably know about vibrato a little more than you do....
Tastes are different. And I never wanted such a useless discussion about such a beautiful piece. So please, just enjoy the music ;-)
You couldn't find mediocre anybody at Moscow Conservatory!
Oooops, so sorry of course you would....
"plays"? :-)
Нарек!, Вибрация должна исходить из звучания человеческого голоса, и она не всегда мелкая, обрати на это внимание, с уважением твой коллега.
The essence of human … ::)
Wow what a great cellist. Young, fresh. Very ver good. But I think that he really should play with another pianist. She is not up to him. with another musician he impression would be different.
