This is, without doubt, the finest interpretation of Debussy’s Clair de Lune I have ever experienced. Lang Lang takes us to the stars the moon and back with him and his Steinway on a boat on the river in Paris. Very, very special indeed. His playing is out of this universe.
I don't think that there are many classical piano pieces like this one which transport me 100% of the time to an entirely different world upon listening to it.
I think Lang Lang said in one of the interviews that Clair de Lune is one of his favorite pieces. When asked why he answered that it contained such longing, so vivid and so deep. But somehow his interpretation makes me think not about the moon but the sea, the waves flashing the beach over and over again. It's so beautiful it makes me long for death in some way.
Agreed. I hear the swell and breath of the sea. The randomness of it as well.. I think it’s why his interpretation is so unique.. he lets the swell control the dynamic of the music. He’s just along for the ride.

Lang Lang growed up and changed a lot. People felt “He was just talented”. But now people he is talented and also on the way to be better and better, finally to be great
There are musicians, then there are artists, then someone comes along and transcends both. This performance falls into those I group into my "This is how heaven will sound" category. Astounding. Thank you for this.
I would like to think that this is the best version I have ever heard. You play the whole piece in a restrained manner, but I don't feel a sense of there being a hurry that's being slowed. It's like the pace of nature, a flower opening to greet the light. The beauty keeps increasing, and even at the end, the beauty remains in my memory. Thank you, sir, for your excellent presentation of such a beautiful passage!
This is my favorite version of the song I can find on RUclips. There's restraint and suspense, which then highlights the faster, louder parts. It's much more up and down, emotionally to my ears than other versions. He's so good!
I know nothing of classical music. Pianos. Composers. Etc. I came across this in complete curiosity, and because I saw some of his other stuff. And this piece completely brought me to tears. Happy feel good tears. Absolutely beautiful. 👏🏽
Perfect. The video of Paris reminds me of the day I was there with my wife walking on the bank of that river in a cold winter. Lovely place, romantic music.
It would be a dream to hear Lang Lang live. He effortlessly finds a language, story, art and emotion in every piece he touches. A superb presentation of Paris and a timeless classic. This man can heal the soul.
Nope, you're absolutely right. You usually hear this played at a tempo that is more let's say solar than lunar. Night time under the moon is supposed to be quiet, peaceful, mystical. That's how Lang Lang makes it sound here.
Interesting how his choice to play this with a very slow tempo allows him to add some ghost notes. I've never heard anyone interpret this piece that way before.
@@Powerslider it's a note that's played so lightly that it's almost not there. He adds them to "accent" the musical phrases and runs that are in the score. It's something you hear jazz pianists do a lot, so it makes sense, since they say Debussy is the father of jazz :)

Time has stopped... this is only the breath of God. The unreal and delicate sound and the slow tempo of this performance are simply pure gold of poetry to the universe
I play this glistening moonsong by actual moonlight. Especially when the full moon fills the room with silver spirit. And I always imagine Claude on the night he wrote this piece. What a night it must have been. What a night it still is. Lang Lang is there, very obviously.
@@jetbrown3085 Jet, I thank you, sincerely. I fear we are being deliberately led away from the higher vibrations of true reality. He wrote the piece to complement with a poem (same name). It’s about an old France high society dancehall with fancy people. A happy place, but people aren’t happy in it. It creates a complex emotional suspense beautifully transcribed by Lang Lang.

Lang Lang growed up and changed a lot. People felt “He was just talented”. But now people he is talented and also on the way to be better and better, finally to be great
Best to listen to this with eyes closed. No distraction from what it is: Sublime.
*sigh* When you have the hiccups... 😔
If eyes are shutt you are at half a loss. Paris in the moonlight is divine.
Perfect..absolutely perfect !! One of the most beautiful performances I've ever heard
Grazie, maestro.
There are musicians, then there are artists, then someone comes along and transcends both. This performance falls into those I group into my "This is how heaven will sound" category.
Astounding.
Thank you for this.
Your comment brings true insight. Merci.
Amen, Mr. Russell. Amen. ;-D
Warm Regards and Best Wishes,

Bite you tongue, not good but great. Love sent with good intent. Enjoy the rest of your day.
Those who played this just know how magical this interpretation is
I know nothing of classical music. Pianos. Composers. Etc. I came across this in complete curiosity, and because I saw some of his other stuff. And this piece completely brought me to tears. Happy feel good tears. Absolutely beautiful. 👏🏽
Congratulations^o^. This is one of the most touching pieces in the world of classical music.
Music is universal like that, and Lang Lang brings it to a broader audience, which is great!
@@cyc20976 he’s passionate as well! It definitely helps get into the mood and feel it all better
Perfect. The video of Paris reminds me of the day I was there with my wife walking on the bank of that river in a cold winter. Lovely place, romantic music.
Lang caresses the keys with so much love, so tender making the music flows.
this is the best Clair de Lune I have ever heard. fantastic touch.
Thanks DG
No words can begin to do this justice.....
It would be a dream to hear Lang Lang live. He effortlessly finds a language, story, art and emotion in every piece he touches. A superb presentation of Paris and a timeless classic. This man can heal the soul.
I'm sure he values your comment. An emotional doctor of sorts. A piece well needed when this planet is heavily stressed.
Every time I listen to this, it always bright back memories when my wife and I walked along the river bank in Paris in that cold winter.
Bravo pour la prestation et la performance ! Douceur et romantisme sont au rendez-vous au Clair de Lune pour un voyage musical, la grande classe !
This piece is way better with slow tempo change my mind
Nope, you're absolutely right. You usually hear this played at a tempo that is more let's say solar than lunar. Night time under the moon is supposed to be quiet, peaceful, mystical. That's how Lang Lang makes it sound here.
I won't. You're comment says the truth ^^
Agreed!
Bro why Eren is here
Interesting how his choice to play this with a very slow tempo allows him to add some ghost notes. I've never heard anyone interpret this piece that way before.
Hi, could you perhaps explain to me what ghost notes are?
@@Powerslider it's a note that's played so lightly that it's almost not there. He adds them to "accent" the musical phrases and runs that are in the score. It's something you hear jazz pianists do a lot, so it makes sense, since they say Debussy is the father of jazz :)
@@AndrewSowerby Thank you that explains it all!
If you listen closely to his interpretation of Gershwin Rhapsody in Blue, he adds a few embellishments that are remarkable as well.
Could you indicate me an example of a ghost note? I wasn't able to identify one.
he can use his perfect skills to interpret the music in any way he likes. This is a masterpiece of performance, full of emotion. I am sure he can interpret the same music in a brand new way. He is THE pianist.
I believe it is his soul which brings us delight, the piano keys are merely the outlet.
@@vanessapierce231 this is a rare comment that actually made me reflect about performances and interpretation. Maybe more than insight into the piece we get a glimpse into Lang Lang himself
ランランさんの演奏は、本当にデリケートで優雅、さらに知的で、感性とテクニックが絶妙なばらんすになっている故でしょう。すばらしいピアニストです。
i have no idea how to explain this piece, the fluidity and beauty is simply out of this mundanity, literally makes me tearing up for how delicate and rare this is. Well done Lang Lang
my favorite versions of this are always on the slower side. The cascade of notes just sounds so much more dreamy and whimsical to me. Excellent job, hypnotic.
You are very descriptive y creative in nature. An enjoyable comment.
By far the best version of this piece. Strong sound when appropriate, but the most delicate and graceful soft isn’t over done
Beautifully played... A touch too slow I felt at first but after listening to it again, I felt the interpretation is just right and in the most awesome of all places ... Bravo!!!!
Questo ragazzo , si, questo ragazzo è eccezionale. Ha la passione profonda e coinvolgente della giovinezza. In qualsiasi esecuzione si cimenti, ha qualcosa in più,. Travolge.
This brings back wonderful memories of my mother. She was a talented pianist and sometimes when she was dusting the piano and thought she was alone she would sit and play this and transport herself and us to a sort of paradise. Of course I think she was just as good as Lang Lang. ❤
This music and PARIS is oh so beautiful together!
I would spend my days of quiet joy in Paris with this piece of Clare de Lune next (2022) autumn days, if God would grant me and my loved one!
... how could we reach perfection like this video ? Debussy's music, and perfect Lang Lang's play, perfect harmony between music and images of the beautiful Paris by night ... my heart is in heaven when I wide open my ears and my eyes....
The most beautiful interpretation of Claire de lune I have ever heard. Absolutely exquisite and marvelous!
Time has stopped... this is only the breath of God. The unreal and delicate sound and the slow tempo of this performance are simply pure gold of poetry to the universe
Lang Lang's interpretation of Claire De Lune was smooth and calm like the river he was going through.
Cute, enjoyable comment.
When this was over, I felt as if I were waking up from a dream. Beautiful.
i know right!
I play this glistening moonsong by actual moonlight. Especially when the full moon fills the room with silver spirit. And I always imagine Claude on the night he wrote this piece. What a night it must have been. What a night it still is. Lang Lang is there, very obviously.
Carl Rachel very poetic description, exactly what is missed in today’s normal life!!!
@@jetbrown3085 Jet, I thank you, sincerely. I fear we are being deliberately led away from the higher vibrations of true reality. We are being mired in the low vibes of an illusion that does not leave room for sparkling moonlight. That is why I return to the well and listen to this recording and so many others like it. Thank you. What you say makes you a partner in awareness.
@@carlorachel fam write a book
He wrote the piece to complement with a poem (same name). It’s about an old France high society dancehall with fancy people. A happy place, but people aren’t happy in it. It creates a complex emotional suspense beautifully transcribed by Lang Lang.
@@8ballpaul "The while they celebrate in minor strain, Triumphant love, effective enterprise, They have an air of knowing all is in vain..." Quite sad, isn't it? To be so blessed but so separated from that through which true value springs. The dulcet harmonies Debussy offers as he paints a vision to be remembered also give hope that minor is merely major waiting for its moment.
This is the most making sense performance of clair de lune that exists... the number one is really a special musician . . . .
From fiery young genius to mellowed perfectionist the many facets of brilliance and a beautiful soul! Thank you Lang Lang for all the golden hours spent listening to you.
What other masterpieces do you consider his best y I will follow thru if info is provided.
Talk about romantic....absolutely mesmerizing😢. If I had one wish before I die......I close my eyes while I listen to this over and over and over......beautiful is an understatement.❤
I've never heard anyone else play it better. Clair de Lune has been my favorite song since forever. When I die I'll have them play this at my funeral specifically him playing it 🌻
ooohhhhh FINALLY someone who plays this the right way!!! everyone else is always too fast. love this
John Tesh (believe it or not) also has a quite lovely interpretation of Clair. I stumbled upon it on his album 'John Tesh Presents Classical Music for an Intimate Mood.'
No, try Barenboim in 2021 and Kissin about same period, they all three are on the same klan!
listen to debussy himself playing it, it's pretty fast
This so far the smoothest Clair de lune I've ever heard
i listened to this last night while going to sleep and i felt like i was so free, gliding over the ocean and looking at my reflection. extraordinary playing.
Where are you from, I dig your fantasy. Pleasant.
I could only imagine what it was like listening to Lang Lang play this song on a boat om the river Seine in Paris. How awesome.
Debussy, Paris, Lang Lang. Que demander de plu !!💝💝🤗🤗
I’m not a fan of Lang Lang, but this piece touches my heart so deeply, best interpretation ever. Thanks.
The tempo is to be savored.
lol
The ripples, the reverberation of notes, and the shimmering overtones paints such a romantic image of Paris and sounds of the river.
You made me laugh y yes I carry a comic nature. I was thinking what could be washed up on an American shore rather than our lovely Paris. Good day. J te beni.
A chaque écoute, j'ai une larme au coin de l'œil...merci Lang Lang
oh my gosh you just wanna keep listening and watching
best with headphones
If I were playing Debussy while sailing the Seine at night, I would definitely take my time to play it.
Y the world would take notice.
Wonderful rendition. He really captures the tenderness and loving awe that makes this such a beautiful song as it tumbles and weaves. Like a romantic moonlit adventure with your sweetheart
Lang Lang is now my favorite pianist. I can't explain how I felt while listening how did he interpretated this piece. How many memories. How many emotions while the beautiful parisian landscape was passing by.
His interpretation was mesmerizing from the bone to flesh❤️
Wonderfully put.
Merci pour la magie.
Magnifique...
Forever timeless. So incredibly, beautifully played. Humanity does have a soul, and Debussy takes us there.
PERFECTION !!!!! Thank you so much, Lang Lang !!!
Beautifull genius with notre dame such memories ! I love my life and i am happy to live to hear and see things so amazing and romantic like this the world can be great tanks lang lang !
what
I absolutely LOVE this rendition!!!!! Might be the best i've ever heard! Thank you Lang Lang. So poetic, so lyrical. All the time in the world. Wow....
We are the Lang fan club.
To make a living playing such beautiful music; to bring such emotive joy to so many people; and to bring so many tears of happiness is truly a life well lived. What a talented, lucky bastard.
He plays an Impressionist like a Romantic. And it’s perfect.
Such a wonderful playing, brilliant interpretation. Lang Lang is the best.
Its not about what you play..its about the way you play it, that's because he is the worlds'number one..
Is your opinion not everybody...
He and Volodos ;)
@@RamonAlfonsoOMAR 1 of the number 1's
@@RamonAlfonsoOMAR if you’re going by pure technical skill he is objectively speaking likely the greatest of our time obviously with the exception of people like Horowitz and Cziffra broadly speaking. However currently living he is the most technically sound on the planet. Musically I love him hit but that’s subjective. His skill is unrivaled though.
Oooooooh so lovely. Takes me back to when I was a little girl. Driving home in Dad's car. Windows open on sunny day and the breeze blowing through my golden locks. As young as I was it made an impression on me and reminds me of our care free happy days with my parents and Brother. Beeeeeeaitiful ❤ 💙 💜 💖 💗
Your family experience sounds like it was a memorable one. A cherished moment. Enjoy your day. J te beni y shalom.
Just had to find the full version after hearing the music box on the movie Seven Years In Tibet. I also recall it from the movie Oceans 11 starring George Clooney. This is where I heard it first at the end with the water fountains. It just moved me to tears. Such a symbolic piece of composed music is simplicity, serenity and joy. This is a joy to listen to and performed by this talented pianist with absolute passion. Just perfect! Thank you so much ❤❤❤❤❤❤.
