  • The bite is wide open! Come along as we catch fish on big swimbaits, crankbaits, and underspins! We're exploring where fish position on offshore and deep water structures in Summer, and putting the words to action on these Summer bass, as we catch them one after another!
    A lot of anglers are intimidated by fishing offshore. Without the shoreline to cast toward it can be scary to move around in the open water searching for fish. But in reality, with decent mapping and a little confidence, its really easy to catch bass away from the bank. Matt teaches where these fish are positioning, then proves it by catching a pile of fish along the way.
    Below you'll find links to the exact baits used in the video. We've included our favorite colors for each (the color we caught them on today listed first), as well as the gear and equipment we used to fish the baits effectively. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

    Not all anglers have boats and can get to the deep water so easily. In that case, there's still a couple of things you can do to get your bait out to that deeper water. First, make sure your rod and reel are setup for maximum casting distance. A spinner is ideal in these situations; with 10 lb braid to a 10/12 lb fluoro leader. On a 7' medium power rod, you can bomb a 1/2 oz lipless crank a mile. Secondly, try to find places you can make casts that provide a deeper drop off to that deeper water. A 45° drop is ideal and you can fish a squarebill against the bottom and bring it back to you. I've had a lot of good success working that pattern this summer.

I don't have an ultrex or forward sonar, don't need it really, but offshore fishing and suspended fish this time year, I can certainly see the benefit to having it. Tight lines

    Hello Matt and Tim, I caught my first 2 fish on the S-waver 168 in the lite trout color on July 29th 2022. The first was a 4 pound smallmouth and the 2nd was my biggest smallmouth yet at 5 pounds. These catches have cemented my confidence in this lure but what really impressed me was 3 birds tried to eat the S-waver also, 2 of which were successful in picking it up out of the water which shows the quality of how well the lure represents a real fish.
    Thank you,

    Matt, another great video, thanks for sharing. I find the July/August fishing is really tough in South Florida especially in ponds. I live on an approximately 2 acre pond that is about 1 mile around. It’s long and narrow and more canyon style. The north part of the pond is around 10-15ft and the ledge within feet of the shore is 10-15 feet. Down the middle the pond is 20-25 feet. On the South end, the lake has two deep pits. One at 55ft and the other around 45ft. There is no real cover or weeds along the shore. I have tried fishing early and late as well as during the day. I have thrown everything you do, frogs and poppers, senkos, Ned baits, underspin small swim baits, lipless crankbaits, square bills, deep diving crankbaits, and even power bait swim baits on umbrella rigs. I have only caught peacock bass at this time of the year especially as water temperature is 88-90 degrees. Any suggestions for canyon style ponds in the Deep South?

      @@michaelgregory7457 I think they would have to be. I know my home lake, Lake Monroe in Bloomington Indiana it's soluble oxygen level is about 22ft down meaning you just don't catch hardly anything past that depth. I don't know a whole lot about it but am hoping they do lol.

    • @michaelgregory7457
      @michaelgregory7457 2 года назад +1

      @@420RyanBruce interesting. Yeah I would imagine they are influenced by it to some extent, just not sure what the exact patterns would be to stay on them. Norris lake in east tn is our cleanest, clearest, and deepest lake but our guide was telling us last year that by mid/end of summer the striper have less water to roam due to the water temp and oxygen, most of the striper and a few smallmouth were caught at the thermocline which was around 50’ of water and slightly above it. The fish had empty stomachs and we were told the oxygen levels and water temps make it tough on the fish come July. On my home lake in middle Tennessee the fish don’t seem to like shallow water at all except for when they come in briefly twice a day to feed now that water temps are so high. There are so many variables, I’d love to hear Matt and Tim discuss it.

      We haven't been hacked at all, it's a look alike. That's the back end stuff you guys don't see... these kinds of attacks happen all day every day. We're on it but once in a while one slips through for a few minutes.

    I went out yesterday and the water temp was 92F
    I literally threw everything and couldn’t get a bite.
    I’m in Florida

      Same with me. Fished for a week and only caught two peacock bass on an umbrella rig. Largemouth bass are just not biting in this heat!
