Easy Swimbait Tricks To Catch Big Bass All Summer!

- Опубликовано: 28 июл 2024
- Summer is swimbait season! Most anglers overlook this opportunity but its easy to catch big bass on swimbaits in the heat!!! From wake baits to soft baits, there are a few tricks you need to know and today we're showing you how to do it!
Big swimbaits work year round. In the Winter months you can specifically target giant bass with them. In Summer, you catch all the fish. You might catch a 2 lber on a Wakebait on one cast and an 8 lber the next! Don't be afraid to fish these large profiles in the Summer but be cognizant of how and where to throw them. Throwing the wrong bait will be a waste of time, while fishing a proven option can produce amazing results!
Below you'll find links to the exact baits and gear Matt discussed in the video. He's also included the guy's favorite colors and sizes for each. All the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of the items.

Love it when Matt does a swimbait video!! I really need to pick up a tactical wake. Been watching this channel for a while now and this is the fishing channel. No channel has helped me more when it comes to bass fishing Matt and Tim are the best info on rods lures line and techniques you guys cover it all and it’s the best info
I bought one just because they helped design it. It comes in a cool collector wood box. I haven't fished it enough to have an opinion on it yet though.
Newly Subscribed to the channel..
I've gotta say dude, I'm loving the content.
As a beginner angler...bass fisher...
I've been just diving deep into watching videos to get tips and ideas to minimize the frustration.
Your content helps me make sense of the chaos. So thanks man, looking forward more and more to getting out there and slaying those monsters!
It’s great that your information aligns almost spot on with Bill Siemental’s swimbait information. The big difference is he focuses on a few specific swimbaits but the overall concept is the same.
When you focus on truth it's amazing how much it all lines up 👍🏼
I needed to hear that! I definitely don’t throw swimbaits all day; hopefully I can better learn when and which to throw to be effective.
I just bought the Scottsboro and B5 the day before this video dropped. Talk about perfect timing
My favorite type of lures to throw in the summer. Favorite os the megabass sleeper gill
I love swim bait videos, thanks
Hey Matt my god bro that was the most informative swimbait video I I have ever seen really excellent stuff bud . Now that video will give you some confidence to go out and swimbait fish . Thanks again for all you guys do for us and Matt bro you have outstanding teaching skills you have this way about you Matt that makes you want to try something different and at the same time you put this confidence in us before we even get out on the water and that is truly impressive teaching Matt . GOD bless bro. Ps best u tube channel bar none.
Come and listen to the excitement again, my friend👍
Please do make a slightly smaller version of the wake bait! Would love to try it in the bigger ponds I fish
As a fresh/salt angler in Florida, i see that Tug topwater being great not only for big bass, but large trout and snook in saltwater too
That sounds fun!!!!
@@tacticalbassin I live five minutes away from a creek I kayak that I've caught big trout, snook and tarpon, but also full of bass, my pb in that creek was 6ish but I've seen giants swim under my kayak. Florida coastal fishing is awesome👌👌
for a slow wake, I really like the DEPS buzzjet
🔥🔥 I absolutely love the Tactical Wake,my heart is pounding on every cast ❤
Matt Nice edit for sure.
I'm so glad I got the tactical 210 wake bait
Love it! :)
Magdraft gang 🔥💯
RIP to all the magdrafts and $ swimbaits us northern anglers have lost to pike 😑
I'm in Minnesota and the main lake I fish is LOADED with Pike😂 I've lost easily $300 worth of lures this year already
Put a 6”-10” 20lb or 30lb black steel wire leader on all swim baits. Will save tons.
I fish to the limit of what I know which is vastly overweighed by what I don’t know which is a fraction of what I don’t even know is out there. But I’m learning from you guys and in thanks do use your TW links. I think I’ll go Burrito shopping now…
Wow you never get skunked you are good!!!!!!
Still waiting on that SLX 300 to come out. If it ever does lol. I still think it’s great that there’s cheaper offerings in rods for swimbaits, just waiting for a cheaper reel to come out too. Especially with all the new anglers, not everyone can afford a Curado 300 unfortunately. I’m fortunate and grateful to be able to.
Now, if Loomis could make more 966s that would be fantastic 😅
I picked two of the 5 inch Burritos. I fish from the bank and was wondering what rod to use. Then Matt said what he uses, and it’s the same length and power I’ve already got. Now I just need to catch a fish with the lure.
I’d buy a couple tactical wakes in the 168-178 size!
Back order still 😂 but waiting patiently.
I need to try the Tactical Wake in these deep gravel pits in summer...majority are out in open water suspended, maybe that big wake can call them up...and it's big enough to keep the freakin' gar off my baits!
Man that baitsanity bait looks awesome. I wonder if weight was added to the front if it turns into a glide. 🤔
A out time for that revisit on night fishing guys come on now !!!! - the Deep South
Hey guys, love all the Swimbait videos recently, been having an amazing year with them. Quick question, do you guys ever pull the harness out of your 8 inch mags and replace it with a beast hook to make a 8 inch freestyle? If not just wondering as to why? Whether it effects the action or what have you. Thank you for all you do for the fishing community and tight lines!
Just stick to the free style if you were going to do that. They make both versions for that exact reason.
9 and 10" wakes or big gill wake baits ive really dialed over the last 10 years up north. Currently fish NW MN 99% of the time and those fish eat em up! Boot tails tho man i get em here and therr but i always revert back to wakes lol.
Hey Matt what's your opinion of the Bucca Nacho ? I love the Burrito and own several I bought a few Nachos when they came out but have yet to throw it
I caught an 8+ pound smallmouth on the 6" magdraft ProBlue Chartreus. Smallies love it, Largies will follow it in clear water but not eat it. Largies will eat it when the water is mucked up a bit. We get wind driven currents that take silt off the shore and the stumps in that stuff get loaded with LM's that will eat that color in those conditions.
Thats a great color and a GIANT fish!! To answer your other question, a short walk through swimbait history would explain why almost no one is willing to support that brand, whether the baits are solid or not.
@@tacticalbassin thanks for the reply. Looking forward to throwing the tactical wake rainbow trout tomorrow! Tight lines guys!
Could you do a video on bank fishing in the summer
Been watching a lot of these videos. Hoping it’s sinking in. I fish a flooded quarry/reservoir with lots of submerged trees. Its only 35ft at its deepest. But its close by and convenient. Thanks for the tips.
Can you do a break down of the many different ways to fish a DRT? Do you fish with the DRT? I've never seen you talk about that bait. Is it because you can't buy it on Tackle Warehouse?
Awesome content love tactical bassin! Great info thanks Matt & Tim.
If you haven’t tried it. I recommend real prey and yunique baits. Both of them have killer action. IMO better than all of those ones you named, besides probably two.
Had a draw down at my lake a couple years ago and learned real quick how small a giant wakebait or seven inch swimbait looks in a eight pounders mouth
What are your thoughts on the kietech 7.8. It was released a few years ago but never heard anything about.
Awesome content!! Are u throwing the tactical wake on braid?
Yes, typically braid to a short leader.
What type of fishing line do you recommend fishing the tactical 210 wake bait on?
when is the best time to use a chopping style glide bait like the chad shad?? I thought it would be a good summer bait near cover.
Do you ever use the larger Kietechs?
I'm honestly surprised you don't throw the Savage Gear Bluegills in the summer.
Is that Stepchild colored Bacca Burrito a glow in the dark color?
When you tie a 20# leader on 50# braid, what know are you using?
I mostly fish small lakes/ponds in the far north where there’s 20+ feet of visibility, the water doesn’t get warmer than 75 degrees and the fish are bluegill and trout eaters. Is top water and boot tail still the ticket or should I keep throwing the wedge tail?
Matt allen. Are the bass x swimbait rods really great rods, have you had any issues with the real seats?
Got all your baits and it’s going to be an epic summer 🐟😃😃🐟🐟😃🐟🐟🐟🐟😎
good morning
Let’s gooooo
Have y’all tried the bass mafia dangerous swimmer yet?
Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to swimbaiting. For those from Minnesota, what's your recommendation for swimbaits? especially sizes
Is the loomis 966 The 8 foot heavy.
Is Friday end tactical bassing knows
So my question is this, what would you Matt say to someone trying to follow what you (and other RUclipsrs) say to use in this month or that month to catch bass? Its for a friend, honest! *looks around nervously*
Im on Lake Marion in SC, if youre ever down this way and wanna get out on a boat (just being friendly, sorry.)
Looking for a reel for my medium spinning rod. Should I go with the Shimano Miravel or Daiwa Fuego?
Miravel is definitely worth the money in my opinion
Matt how long are your leader to the bait. Bassmd
When nothing else works, take a 3.1:1 reel out and crawl the bait everywhere.
B5 won't swim for me... What am I doing wrong?
Is there anything you’d suggest for bank fisherman? I’m from SF Bay Area and there’s a lot of small lakes around but no need for a boat since they’re so small, do the same techniques apply or no?
Absolutely they do. We've caught bass over 10 lbs in a few of them 👍🏼
What is the best color for the baitsanity chimera? Thx for any help
My favorite is Threadfin Shad, Tim's favorite is Gizzard Shad.
Great information, as always. There is a lot to take in. I appreciate the links in the description. A great reference. I have a 6" Magdraft with the internal harness that I can not get to run straight. I have tried bending the harness. Any suggestions on how to correct it?
The Zodias 7’9” XH isn’t on TW. Does Shimano make that model of rod? Or is it a different size?
It's there, you just overlooked it. It's higher on the list, out of order.
What about the new Berkley Cull Shad Matt? Or the Chris Zaldain swimbait that looks so close to the Magdraft?
I've always had pretty good luck with Gantarel SB'S. I don't know about the ones you mentioned.
I need help with the wake bait guys
My question is why don’t you use wedge tails in summer? I would think in clear water you would want a very realistic bait. There are still trout in the lakes I fish people are still catching them.
I'm looking to dip a toe here. Would my Dobyns Fury 704c be reasonable to give a 6 inch treble hooked swimbait a try?
While not always ideal, as long as a rod can handle the weight of big baits....adjustments may need to be made, depending on the actions of the rod...if it's a heavy, stiff rod drag would need to be loosened & a line with more stretch would at least give u a chance to stay hooked up.....a heavy, stiff rod with braid & trebles is not a great idea....if it was me & I was just trying out a 6" swimbait with trebles...I'd throw 20lb. Monofilament...if your rod isn't very stiff, braid or braid/fluoro combo would work as well
@@andybales7318 Thanks for the reply. Appreciate the considerations. I often forget the role line has in the equation.
What about a murky messy reservoir with surface temps of no higher than 65? Depending on the area you can get 6 feet of visibility to none. They drained my lake so nad last year, its been low for the last 3 or 4. Now it's full... way full. I cant find anything bigger than dinks. Lots of bushes in the lake now in like 9 feet or water or less. Finally cover to fish an nothing.
I live on folsom lake in Northern California I know you are familiar…. Despite a small window for huds and big glides and swimbaits bigger for trout and Kokanee eaters…. Do you think 6 inch swimbait is reasonable there to get bit consistency with repetition like a spinnerbait? These 2-4 inch baits get boring to fish with the small pond smelt and threadfin ect. Even on an A rig, sorry not sorry!!!
Just bought the Daingerous Swimbaits buy bass mafia. I’ve already had strikes, but haven’t yet gotten a good eat. Running the 6” albino on a pond with a 3/8ths ounce weighted swimbait hook.
How about glide baits? Why wouldn't glide baits work in the summer months? Matt did not go in depth as to why he does not recommend fishing glide baits in the summer time. Anyone have any reasons, theories or disadvantages as to why glide baits would not work in the summer months? I love fishing glide baits. I don't understand why they would not work in the summer time, especially in low light conditions for shallow fish or trying to call up deeper fish on off shore structure in a very deep clear lake in windy conditions.
Good morning y'all hope you all catch a PB this weekend.. if I do I'll post it with my other shorts
I don't think anyone is worried about fishing and catching with it. I think everyone is worried about losing it accidentally. Especially when we were fishing it around. Big wood. They are afraid that it will get down too low. Get snagged and they will never get their $120 back
I learned early on when I went from cheap Smithwick Rogues to Lucky Craft...you can't be afraid of losing it, or you won't cast it where you need to or fish it how you should.
My opinion, would you guys be willing to live stream a tournament of the same month that you have recommended these baits? Looks like you haven't done one in over five years and would love to see them in action.
We gave up tournament fishing so we could be the best possible teachers. Tournaments are about secrets, maintaining advantages, and executing flawlessly. What we do is a constant pursuit of knowledge and an immediate desire to share, with no lag time in between.
You simply can't be the best at both, they're at complete odds with one another.
@@tacticalbassin understandable 👍🏼
Not for nothing it must be pretty rewarding to catch a fish on a bait that YOU designed.
Even if you didn't design it from scratch, doing so with modifications and doing better than with the original really is a huge confidence builder in ones abilities. You'll actually have proof that you are at a higher level than you gave yourself credit for. I recommend anyone looking to challenge themselves more to give it a try.
@@secretbassrigs The closest I ever got was i went to a fly tying class.
I love your videos! You guys are the best, and I share your videos with anyone I know who is interested in catching bass. I know you guys have a lot going on but my question is would your signature wake bait work in Colorado? I fish 3-5 acre public lakes with super clear water, very smart fish, and a 5-6 pounder is a serious fish out here. Would you still throw an 8" bait?
I bought a b6 to try. Not gonna lie. It swims terribly. Don't know if I need to do any modifications or what, but it just spins in circles or turns on its side. Kinda disappointed
Thats definitely not normal. Is the tail totally kinked? If not, move the hook placement left or right slightly to get it to track straight.
I know y'all won't mention it because they don't sell through TW but summer is when Rising Sons really shine.
BKK is a Chinese owned company in Shanghai China.
First 😢
Confidence in what you are doing is very important. You will try harder when you don't have to think about what you are doing
So basically swim bait fishing is easy if you have 1000 dollars worth of lures 3000 dollars worth of rod and reels a 25000 dollar boat with sonar
Guess ill stick to worm fishing
