The rules of the game are remarkably fair. The creature has to actually see or hear you, rather than just locking onto your position, and it even gives you a chance to run once it's spotted you.
it's wild how, no matter how basic of a tactic it is; hearing or seeing *something* running at you in near darkness will always be so fucking terrifying
"It Steals", "It" is referring to YOU. You are the one who steals. These monsters are playing with you. Like a human would toy with a lost ant on their kitchen counter.
I like that when the creature chases Mark, not only does it say I don't like walls, crash into walls and shake the whole screen, but the path is literally lit up in straight lines of red light to emphasise which direction its running in and what path it'll follow
the hide and seek mode elaborating on the creature’s personality is so cool and scary at once. like “wow this thing likes games :D” to “it wasn’t me to lose. it’s a death game. it’s hunting me down for fun. it could smash through walls if it wanted to but it has fun doing this to me”
By the way, if you play by the rule: "mind your own business" in hide and seek mode, it goes from a crazy mode that ever changes, to literally walking around casually to get all orbs simulator. And if you see him in the way somewhere, no worry, if you look the opposite way you can casually walk past him. As long as you keep distance, don't stare for too long, NEVER look around corners or rooms, and use radar, you will never accidentally find him. I am sad that I found this out because now it makes playing it the proper/fun way weird. :( If you really want to look around for some reason just press r. Never view your surroundings, no need. Especially in the daytime version. You can see them from so far away that you'll never accidentally trigger them. I feel like Hide and Seek would be improved with occasional forced switches. You have 2 switches before it kills you, forcing the player to move carefully to avoid unnecessary switches but faster than the forced switches.
If you don't find the monster for the entire round, then on one of the last few orbs he will say "BAD SEEKER! PLAY WITH ME!" and immediately start to chase you. I believe that the chase is also a lot harder than when it's triggered normally.

You can hide from them inside one of the shelters on the map, but there's very few of these. So you have to carefully plan your movement to not run out of time in the middle of the maze, without any save spots nearby and monsters all around you.
@@thebrokencr0wn Depends on the game. For the most part FNaF got progressively less and less scary. This game is almost definitely scarier than FNaF though, that's probably a common opinion.
The main point of this is simple; Legs is the one hiding, always out of sight, but always there. You're the one seeking, you're the one stealing, you're the one afraid.
I love how sometimes the game disorients you by changing the orb counter like in Spooky's, teleporting you somewhere on the map or even drawings on the walls that look like the monster's eyes. And not many horror games can give me pure fear and tension from just watching someone play them. This is one of those not many. The blue guy teleports you, right? That's what happened?
Nope, no teleportation! Basically, the monster in Classic mode mimics the light of the orbs to lure you once you're far enough in the game (hence the blue eyes) and there's a secret shortcut in the form of a fake wall on the map of this mode, which Mark accidentally found while escaping. The blue orb thing is true, though it always changes the same way (2 = 200, 1 = DIE), and so are the red eyes on the walls (especially prominent in Classic, since they look pretty much like the actual monster)

With what they had, they actually made this a terrifying game. People always look over the indie made games, as inferior to big production games, and while that may be true as far as content, that is not always the case for gameplay. Stardew Valley was an indie made game and it has a special place in my heart. On a horror game factor, I'd give this an 7/10. It doesn't entirely rely on jump scares, as finding the creature in hide and seek, is much worse than it jump scaring you. The fact that Mark is a hardcore and experienced player, when it comes to indie horror games, and you hear him go, "Oh shit.", when he finds it, you know it's good. I'm a sucker for a good horror game, indie or not, that can actually make things horrifying, while not just blasting you in the face with jump scares. Edit: I'd like to see this game in VR. Now THAT would be TERRIFYING! *FOUND YOU!*
I know this comment is a bit old, but now that eye tracking is a feature in the new vr headsets, I think that would make the hide and seek even better. If you even look at it it chases you
The general attitude i see about games is that all triple-a/larger studio made games are soulless slop, and that most indie games are the only good games
@@michaeltesterman8295 I think the consensus is that one should generally be skeptical of the big companies. Indie games vary in quality but every now and then a few handful of great indie games appear. There's also a few larger companies that make decent games/have high trust. A lot about video games is if you've made video games before you sort of have a trust factor. Certain companies have a notoriously terrible trust. Some are genuinely amazing. Some have had pretty good hits and some misses. A lot of it is trust and whatever indie dev just happens to roll well on the cosmic dice, and make a great game, but also have their game spread. Good example is undertale. Game wasn't really programmed great at all and very limited art and music, but it had a pretty awesome story, interesting mechanic, and very lovable characters. Along with that it spread very well. TL;DR: If you made a game before, you have trust factor. However climate shifted to automatic minor distrust of larger companies. If never made a game before, it's mostly luck and some effort. (Pray it spreads around)

@@codylubasz4544 Well that’s just worse. If it’s not sarcastic, it just comes off as creepy. What kind of person asks some other random stranger’s age on the internet for real? Either a pedophile or someone very naive. In the event you are just genuinely naive, allow me as a sensible adult to enlighten you: Seriously. Please don’t ask people their age on the internet. And more so, don’t ever give out personal information on the internet. A lot of people, especially young people, underestimate the genuine danger the internet can present. Just don’t.
It's always fun to see these kinds of horror games. I'd like to see all the different variants the difficulties have, because it seems like they change the aesthetic of the playing field.
I've never had an enemy in a video game physically hurt me before - let alone while not even playing the game, but watching a playthrough. The first or second jump scare got made me move very fast in such a way that it felt like I pinched a nerve or something.
Closest I remember in horror was spongebob in a slender clone making ear breaking noises by default when close, another was in an rpg where a boss voluntarily flashed high speed lights to affect the player, and I think a few games did stuff like that, but It's rare by fear factor alone a monster do physically scare you to pain
This reminds me of a card game I used to play in school, I can’t remember what it was called but the game had a sealed envelope with the rules of the game in it, one person knows all the rules and no one else has any idea what the rules are and they have to figure them out as the player who knows the rules deals out punishments in the form of making you pick up more cards
So glad he's playing this, from me getting the game a really long time ago and there being absolutely no content on it, to pastra making a video on it, and now mark playing it

@@ThatCyberpunkGuy i dont think its much scary to watch and much more to play. i already knew what all the modes were so i knew what to expect and i didnt get scared either but i think id absolutely hate to play this. the shutter mode having you barely able to see anything and needing to flash them at the right time while trying not to run out of battery sounds awful to play and the hide and seek mode having the possibility of the monster jumping out from any corner i find very good. theres also the phantom mode which i think is a really cool concept and in it you need to hold your breath to not get caught while at the same time its something that can entirely give you away. the game doesnt really jumpscare you the same way most horror games would but i definitely think its very scary to play

@@thelastmohican951 Monsters hide inside the walls and you have to use your scanner to find them. You also have a timer. When time runs out, monsters stop hiding and attack directly. You can hide from them inside one of the shelters on the map, but there's very few of these.
So you have to carefully plan your movement to not run out of time in the middle of the maze, without any save spots nearby and monsters all around you.
This was probably the scariest game for me. I have literally never reacted so strongly to a horror game.
Same. For me, this was even scarier than FNAF, which is saying a lot because FNAF is absolutely terrifying to some
@@thebrokencr0wn
Depends on the game. For the most part FNaF got progressively less and less scary. This game is almost definitely scarier than FNaF though, that's probably a common opinion.

Exactly it's pretty well made! Mark needs to play all the modes.

The blue orb thing is true, though it always changes the same way (2 = 200, 1 = DIE), and so are the red eyes on the walls (especially prominent in Classic, since they look pretty much like the actual monster)
the blue mimic eyes and fake wall eyes only happened for me occasionally
Pastra is so good at finding indie horror that feels so terrifying.

If you even look at it it chases you
@@t_kn0ximagine looking at it through your peripheral vision in absolute terror knowing if you focus on it you’ll get chased
