A hymn to Virgin Mary.🤰Annunciation Day (when Gabriel the archangel told Mary she would give birth to Jesus) is celebrated this Sunday in the protestant churches of the Nordic countries, which is rather early because the actual date (25th of March) falls within the Holy Week, which shouldn’t have any festivities. Other churches celebrate on the 8th of April, and are of course welcome to listen to this piece that date.😉In any case, this is a transcription of a choral piece by Franz Liszt.🎵Liszt wrote several Ave Marias for choir, piano, or harmonium. As with many pieces, he wrote several versions, so this particular one came in two versions for choir, later two versions for piano, but this transcription was made by his friend A. W. Gottschalg, who stayed quite true to the original but added a little celestial coda at the end. It’s a piece full of warmth and typical of Liszt’s more 'pure' style.✨As always, don’t forget to click the thumbs-up and subscribe!😃

The strings here are lovely, on the first manual there's a strong Gamba (very typical of Swedish romantic organs) and a very soft Dolce (rather unusual), and on the second manual the super soft Aeoline, a less soft but still quiet Salicional, and a relatively strong Violin (this triad is sort of common in late romantic Swedish instruments). And the Voix céleste of course, which is normally much softer here than its French counterpart (I imagine that to be a German influence?). A sort of stringy principal - the Violon 16' - and a lovely Violoncello 8' in the pedal, also standard Swedish romantic procedure. I love them all!
