5+ years later, your video's still helping people fix their stuff, well done! mine was sounding like the motor was stuck (failed bearing i thought) but, it was only a very old (25+ years?) belt had begun to disintegrate and wrapped around the drive pulley. what a dilemma for the oem's... build your brand on durability and possibly sell less new units or...
My partner and I bought a used dryer that was working well for us, until I noticed that it stopped spinning. I moved away from my hometown last year, where I would always call my dad when I had an issue. I was never alone or forced to figure something out all by myself. Well, things have definitely changed. This video was so simply and to the point-thanks for teaching this viewer how to fix things by myself. This way, I can still call my dad-but AFTER I’ve done it so he can be proud of me!
Thank you so much for posting this video. My dryer stopped turning over 3 months ago. About a month ago I was told to check out the belt and with the help of your video, I was able to change the belt myself! My dryer is back to working like a charm!
Whether I've changed the heating element, a fuse, the belt, or anything else in that area of my 1994 Kenmore, I always forget exactly how to get the belt around the tensioner and the motor. This video has saved me a lot of frustration. thanks.
Thank you for posting this. My dryer stopped spinning after a sneaker that I was drying got wedged in the tumbler. I looked at your video and thought that maybe the problem was a broken belt. I ordered a new belt and within 30 minutes or so I had the belt installed with the help of a friend who helped to hold things up while I was working on the belt. You saved me a lot of money ! These instructions were perfect.
oh, it is always the "putting it back together" part where I find difficulties. I am real good at taking things apart. Having a video to see what goes where, which way, is so much of a help putting it back together. I am just happy that it was just the belt. And my old "non-roller" version of the pulley, which I replaced while was at it, using a roller version this time.
Excellent video instruction for replacing the belt on a Kenmore 70 or 80 series dryer; especially compared to the other train wreck videos that RUclips returned ahead of this one.
Thanks for the video...got a free Kenmore dryer off of the road that didn't work, hoped it was a broken belt, and it was...your dryer matched mine almost perfectly, and for $8.00 got the belt and took apart, put together with very little effort. Appreciate your time doing this...
I consider myself handy... I took the lid off, saw the belt was still intact, took the front off and found the idler just laying at the bottom... From there I was a little lost on how it connects to the pulley. Fast forwarded to that part of the video and I was done. Thanks! 10/10 would recommend
Thanks so much for this video!! It was all I needed to reference to replace the fraying belt on my ancient, inherited dryer haha Much appreciated! In case anyone else experiences the same issue: My dryer stopped turning with a load in it (or tumbled LOUDLY and violently while empty) and was making a constant high-pitched squealing upon each revolution. After taking the cover off I saw a fraying, thin and brittle belt. Now everything is back to normal with just a new belt from Lowe’s. Also, I’d mention while you have it apart take the time to clean out all of the lint and debris! I had an embarrassing amount of loose change, lint and hair clips in mine….
Just put a belt on a 31 year old dryer with the help of your video! Wouldn't it be wonderful if things last that long these days! Thank you for the video.
Thanks 🙏 Perfect instructions. Mine The belt broke. I immediately ordered from Amazon and I received it the next day. I just finished the job. It gave me the opportunity to vacuum down there.
Thank you for this video! I've had to replace my dryer belt twice now (don't buy cheap ones on Amazon!) and followed your video step by step. Thank you for saving me from buying another dryer!
Thank you very much. It never dawned on me that I could do this myself. Your clear step by step showed me that I can do this. I replaced the belt in less than 10 minutes.
Thanks for showing me how to get the lid off my uncle's old dryer! My dad told me to check the belt of the dryer, and it's still intact and holding together! BTW the problem with my uncle's old dryer is a blown thermal fuse. But at least I got to clean the insides and find some loose change! Yes, my uncle did get a new dryer. (We donated him our old dryer that we fixed).
This was a great video with step by step. Once I got it all disassemble I realized the pulley for the motor had snapped off and had to replace it. Changed the belt while I was at it. Thanks for this video!
Your details were super helpful. Simple & detailed from beginning to end, enough for me to get it done right on the first try. Way more detailed than the sears video I watched first. Thanks!
Thank you! for posting this, was very helpful. I thought the hardest part would be getting that pully back on correctly, but that went smoothly. For me, putting that front panel back on was a pain, lol. You made this job an ease with you video!
I just replaced the belt in mine. Spun the drum then put everything back together, and it still doesn't spin when turned on. I give up and I'm calling a repair man cuz putting that front back on was a righteous pain
Thank you for your video. You made it a simple process. Just a thought. Taking a picture with your phone of the belt placement around the pulleys would help. Thanks again! DCB
Steve, thank you for your very detailed instructions. I replaced my drum belt watching your instructions and it was easy even though I was a bit scared. I also repaired my Sears washing machine which was a bit more detailed, by following your instructions. Now, I can't find instructions from you on how to replace the Sears Kenmore gas dryer Drum Glide Bearing or Belt Seal. Do you have any instructions for that? I prefer to follow your instructions because others aren't so detailed. Love your work. Thank you.
Very easy to do with your nice explication. Thank to help to save and save the planet when we can keep longer our equipment instead to change for a new one. The belt cost me 13$ at a store and easy to have-it.
Thanks so much for the video! I have the exact same set up and I found the tension wheel on the floor of the dryer and wasn’t sure how to put it back as well as the belt. Thanks so much! Great video!
While you are into the unit clean dust and lube motor. I used PB Blaster. My motor had ceased. Turn like butter now. I didn’t like the small shredding on the belt so I replaced that.
Thank you for your excellant video.....you made it clear with your word description, and the clear view video shots. Saved us lots of time and money !!!

Thank you! I could smell my belt glazing. I found your video, ordered the belt then did a pause and play until it was back together.

So how did you dry your clothes for this long ?

Thank you for this post. I couldn't believe the position of the belt tensioner! But buying the new belt and pulley saved me over $600. Again thank you
Thank you, sir! You're like the Bob Ross of dryer repair!
Great video. First time doing any appliance work and fixed it for a $7.98 belt from Lowe's. Saved over $100 and much more satisfying doing it yourself
In April 2024, I bought my replacement belt at Lowe’s for $14.60. That’s Bidenflation for you.
I consider myself handy... I took the lid off, saw the belt was still intact, took the front off and found the idler just laying at the bottom... From there I was a little lost on how it connects to the pulley. Fast forwarded to that part of the video and I was done. Thanks! 10/10 would recommend

Why not check out the rollers while the drum is loose? Great Video . Sure educates us that never worked on these types of devices.
Pro quality video with a pro caliber technician !! Thanks !!
Glad you liked it!
this was very helpful. Even though my problem wasn't a belt, it was very useful to see how the machine comes apart without breaking things.

When inserting the putty knife, it has to be raised about 3/16th of an inch as to not sheer the clip :)
