I like how the narration is like *I never held a loaded gun in my entire life...* while the protagonist proceeds to reload that bad boy like a marine veteran.
Maybe because it’s in his head logic don’t follow when dreaming.
We need a mod starring a civillian during the seven hour war. No combat, just hiding from place to place trying to avoid getting spoted by the invading forces

1187 is a very little bit like that. As I recall, there's a moment in the mod where it's just more sensible to hide and let the NPCs wipe out each other than to try to join in.
And the kills are more indirect, with improvisions on environmental stuff like magneted cars near the crusher, etc

0:10 I remember it was very scary, every time I listened to the news of this radio in Black Mesa about the unforeseen consequences of the Resonance Cascade on the whole Earth. Just hearing the vignette was already smudged with fear kkkkk when the announcer talked about the s*, then he was afraid. He was very small when he first played Half-Life, 2011. Good memories and one of the best.

I just cannot accept HL2 as canon. Can we please not trash the entire planet? It was kind of cool, fun and games, merely trashing Black Mesa, a mad-scientists' place just looking for a disaster to happen.
Why can't I work at a cool high-tech place like Black Mesa? Would be nice to be off on the day of the disaster. Presumably, there was no mention of Black Mesa being "a disaster looking for a place to happen" at the job interview though.
I can never get bored of HL modes as there is so many and they keep the game going. What other game has lasted this long ??????? Even HF 2 mods keep the game going, I wish I knew how to make mods and maps as it would keep me happy for a very long time.

This mod has a nice start but a bit too anti-climatic to have the protagonist literally exit his house and already everyone are either gone or dead right after the annoucement on the television... I do want to see a mod where you play a citizen the minute The 7 Hour War starts. Where you've already faced the fact that headcrabs and other type of species made earth into their new home but now Combines are invading earth as well. I can see the idea behind this mod, I do think it needs to be a bit more polished in some sections and let the story sink in a bit better. Otherwise this was quite fun to watch. Also the ending was a nice touch!
Absolutely. Imagine just a city breaking out into chaos and you have to fight through it. I also really like the Dutch setting of 1187, the only mod to really try to tackle the 7 Hour War.
But in general, I would just love to see mods that really expand the HL universe between the two games.
@@semyonchuikoff1136 Is it considered Canon that there are a couple of years between Mesa incident and the 7 hour war and that People gaced Vortigaunts and all that xen stuff before the combine
@@teopazdrijan1008 I definitely think the Combine didn't invade earth right after Resonance Cascade... I would also say couple of years but could even be more. I think it took them time to actually start chasing the Vortigaunts to earth
@@royliber3824 I always thought of it as a 4-5 year gap between the cascade and the war, not too long, but also not too short of a timespan
@@teopazdrijan1008 Great question. I've checked out a wikia about this and it appears that people did in fact encounter Xen lifeforms and Vortigaunts before the Combine invaded, but whether that was days weeks, months or years is unclear.
It's also unclear, to me anyway, whether the portal storms themselves served merely a transportation function for the Combine or were also weaponized. If weaponized, it might explain the massive extent of physical destruction seen in the HL2 games -- unless the Combine was just firebombing everything?

Very atmospheric stuff, awesome! Has some vibe of good old hl1 mods like Heart Of Evil and may be something I didnt recall. Made with soul.

I think mod should've given the MC a crowbar to fight off some Xenian creatures, introduce the pistol later alongside some human enemies like police and military (since overwatch soldiers don't exist yet and if there needs to be human-enemies best case is what i mentioned)

to be honest, I'm totally dissapointed with what HL2 modding has become.
Lets put this point by point, with first being:
Bad map design. Seriously, are we back in 2005? It looks bad, it plays bad, like in days when hammer editor was just released and first attempts were put out for the public to see. Enemy placement is horrible. They are stationary, just waiting for you to come up and kill them. Hell, the mapper doesnt even use squads so NPCs can use some tactics and all. Instead they just stand looking at the direction you are supposed to arrive from idly, waiting for you to slaughter them.
Reusing assets from other source games. Really? Reusing L4D, CS Source assets was never good if your map is bad from the start. Every bit of the map looks as if it is rushed: sharp edges, poor lighting, bad enemy placement AGAIN, lack of any scripting, lacking soundscapes (for the most part). It doesnt look and sound believable, you are not getting immersed as you should.
Underhell, Downfall, Local-Motive, Street Hazard, A Hero Once More, Precursor, Sebastian... and other really quality mods, THAT is what modders should look at before putting their hard work out. Maybe its just me and my hopes are a little bit too high, and mods I listed are a bit old, but...
Nothing as good as they were was released in the past years! And it really saddens me, as if hl2 quality modding is dying.

Sometimes I play bad mods only cuz I like the engine itself. I'm in love with all those sounds, textures and surroundings at all
At least there was no gunship battle at the end of this one...
I was actually surprised when I saw all the new guns, cars and assets, instead of all those old car wrecks we see in 90% of HL2 mods. The combat was never fun to me in HL2, the gun sounds are lame and annoying, guns have almost no recoil, while NPCs don't react to being shot. I'm sure modders can improve that, it has been done before. Instead we keep getting one generic mod after another and somehow players are satisfied.
